Andrew Lloyd Webber English Musical Theater Composer (1948-) Andrew Lloyd Webber was born in Kensington, London, United Kingdom, on March 22, 1948. He is the oldest son of William Lloyd Webber and Jean Hermione. He has a younger brother named Julian Lloyd Webber. He comes from a musical family. His father was a director of the London College of Music, an organist, and a composer. His mother was a violinist and a piano teacher, and his brother is a highly celebrated solo cellist. Andrew displayed his talents when he was just a toddler. At the age of three, he played the piano, the violin, and the French horn. By six years of age, he started to write his own music. At age nine, he composed six short pieces called The Toy Theatre Suite, which were published in Music Teacher Magazine. Andrew also produced little dramas in a toy theater that he built himself. His brother Julian and his Aunt Viola helped out with his mini-theater productions. When Andrew Lloyd Webber was 17, Tim Rice sent him a letter, and this began a long collaboration between the two playwrights. Written in 1965, their first work was The Likes of Us, which wasn't performed until 2005. Webber and Rice went on to write many successful productions, such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and Cricket. In the 1980's, Webber went on to write two of his best known works, Cats and Phantom of the Opera. Cats was his longest-running show in both New York and London. In New York, it ran for 18 years, and in London it was performed for 21 years. Phantom of the Opera is the longest- running show on Broadway and has been seen by over 130 million people in 145 cities in 27 countries. Filled with unforgettable music and dramatic special effects, Phantom of the Opera is Webber's most well-known work. Andrew Lloyd Webber has won numerous awards, one Academy, one Golden Globe, four Grammy Awards, seven Tony Awards, and several others. Some of his most recognizable works are Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera. The first part of the thesis introduces Lloyd Webber’s biography, his close collaborators as well as his production company the Really Useful Group and description of all his works. The main part of the thesis is aimed at his musicals Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar , rather their origin and development, the main plot and their main characters that have many things in common. Both these musicals are based on topics from the Bible. The thesis also deals with the librettos and their translation into Czech. Herbert Howells' a Garland for De La Mare Twelve Songs for Voice
BLOZAN, BENJAMIN C., D.M.A. Herbert Howells’ A Garland for de la Mare Twelve Songs for Voice and Piano: Contexts for Performance (2013) Directed by Dr. James Douglass. 166 pp. Because British composer Herbert Howells (1892-1983) decided in mid-career to concentrate his creative energies upon Anglican liturgical music, his many notable contributions to secular genres are often overlooked. This is certainly the case for A Garland for de la Mare, a collection of twelve songs for voice and piano on poems by Howells’ longtime friend Walter de la Mare (1873-1956), a work nearly unknown in the United States. Its posthumous publication in 1995 also contributed to its failure to enter the art song canon. The neglect suffered by this commemorative work—held in high esteem by all writers who have assessed it—is unfortunate and unwarranted. Howells and de la Mare are both ubiquitously regarded as master craftsmen in their respective disciplines. Additionally, they share a remarkable compatibility between musical and poetic languages which is vividly highlighted in the songs in Garland. The set gains additional significance by containing the only songs Howells worked on past 1934. Though early versions of several of the songs first appeared in 1919, the bulk of Howells’ effort occurred much later in the mid-50s (surrounding de la Mare’s death) and in the years leading up to the centenary of the poet’s birth in 1973. As such, they display a confidence and economy indicative of a composer fully in possession of his creative voice. This study aims to combat Garland’s obscurity by inspiring interest in informed performances of the songs therein.

The Lion King (1994) Synopsis & Sequence Segmentation The Lion King (1994) Synopsis The ceremony within all the citizen of pride rock begins in order to celebrate young Simba’s presentation as the future king of pride rock. Rafiki as the religious leader leads the ceremony with the king Mufasa and queen Sarabi as Simba’s parent. Unfortunately, Scar as Simba’s uncle does not come to the ceremony because of his bad personal sentiment to Mufasa and Simba. Then, after the ceremony Zazu as the king’s adviser is ordered by Mufasa to warn Scar of the consequence of his act, but he fails and even Scar tries to attack Zazu, finally Mufasa shows up and warns Scar to not repeat his mistake. Simba as the young prince of the pride land learns about how to be a great king from Mufasa. In his lesson he learns about the border of the kingdom, the circle of life, and many things. At the end of his lesson, Simba meets with his uncle named Scar, he tells everything about his previous lesson to his uncle then at one point Scar tricks Simba that only the bravest lion who brave enough to enter the forbidden place named Elephant graveyard. Suddenly, Simba is encouraged by Scar’s persuasion. Then he decides to enter the forbidden place with his friend. Simba invited Nala to come along to the elephant graveyard. In order to get permission he lies to his mother about the destination and tells that they wants to explore a water hole.
