David Jones Dan Paravanno Maurice Vernon Celebration of Life Dr. Brian McEwen, (Jul 15, 1952 – Mar 25, 2018), served as executive director of Champions for Children (formerly Child Abuse Council), a private nonprofit agency whose mission is to build stronger families in the Tampa Bay region. Prior to becoming executive director of Champions for Children in 2013, McEwen was associate director for 12 years and held senior positions at other Tampa area not-for-profits since 1979. Under his guidance, Champions rebranded to present a more accurate and positive portrayal of its mission, which is to “build stronger families in the Tampa Bay region through its child abuse prevention and family education programs.” Brian helped hone the non-profit’s focus on child abuse prevention through a series of education programs targeting parents, not only those referred by social workers but also any parent who wanted to attend. In addition, Champions implemented one of Tampa’s first centers to assist fathers , FRANC (Fathers Resource and Networking Center), which serves as a community-wide hub for fatherhood initiatives, activities and services. The mission of FRANC is to make available resources, support, information and education to enable dads to address the challenges and celebrate the joys of positive fathering and involvement with their children. FRANC services are for all dads… married, single, divorced, foster, surrogate, expectant and mentors.

Brian graduated from Jesuit High School, Vanderbilt University and the University of South Florida, where he received his Ph.D. in applied anthropology. He started his career counseling families, working during the 1990s at Northside Mental Health Center. Brian received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Advocacy from the Early Childhood Council of Hillsborough County in 2016. Just five days before his death he was named a Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero, which comes with a $50,000 award for the charity of his choice from the Lightning Foundation. He donated it to Champions for Children. Thursday 9/20/2018

Marvin Jones, founded The I /A\m ProGram, Inc. with the mission to help others realize their greatness within. Working with children and adults alike, I use my tools inspire and influence change. My wish is that I can bless others with the freedom and beauty of being one’s unique self just as my family did. To be the voice in someone’s head to change the world for the better. The voice that makes someone feel at home. Growing up in a strong afro-latino family, music and the love for philosophy, along with other applied sciences were deeply rooted within my ancestry. From a very young age, I was blessed with the gift of using sound and words as a form of deep expression to touch the hearts and move the spirits of those around me. One of my greatest inspirations and most notable influences is my Great Uncle, James Carr. I remember family dinners on the weekends at which he would bless us with his voice. Along with my grandfather and uncle's, we would sit and talk about world views, sports, and musical noted. The volume, vibrations and energy that they radiated was able to captivate the hearts and minds of any audience. My life manifests from these roots of freedom. Freedom to live as your authentic self and utilize every gift that is within. To empty your cup of talents that God has given. Life is a beautiful journey and music is an art form for all people to relate and reflect. This forms much of the inspiration and foundation behind The I /A\m ProGram, Inc.
