1 On 17 October 1999, China notified the Director-General of UNESCO that the Convention would continue to apply to the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China with effect from 20 December 1999.The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam and the Republic of South Viet Nam (the latter having replaced the Republic of Viet Nam) united on 2 July 1976 to form a new State, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (Viet Nam). To date, the Government of Viet Nam has not made known its position regarding any succession.
