International Journal of Humanities and Innovation (IJHI) Vol. 4 No. 2, 2021, pp. 48-56 The political development in Sri Lanka after civil war ended: a critical review for after Zarb-e-Azb operation in Pakistan Taha Shabbir1*, Kehkashan Naz2 1,2Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan *e-mail: [email protected] Abstract The Sri Lankan civil war began in 1983 and lasted until 2009. The tension stems from Sri Lanka's colonial period and subsequent post- colonial policies that harmed the Tamil people. Without viable alternatives, a part of the Tamil population resorted to the degree of brutality that precipitated a second civil war. Regional, domestic, and global attempts to bring the war to a halt have been futile, though some more local measures have been active. A ruthless military campaign brought the conflict to an end. However, nothing has been done in the aftermath of the war to try to resolve the civil war, including its roots. Sri Lanka's civil war exemplifies the uncertain existence of civil war resolution. With this in mind, the war's conclusion was unquestionably the product of a strategic triumph. However, the civil war should have ended; a unique constellation of structural, state, and national forces collaborated to allow for unrestricted military aggression. As long as the dominant forces, including the United States and significant European countries, understood that enough bloodshed had happened, the country's aggression could be brought to a stop. China and India, with India abstaining, voted to support the Sri Lankan government in its major offensive against insurgents.

ABSTRACT The ranging course of terrorism banishing peace and security prospects of today’s Pakistan is seen as a domestic effluent of its own flawed policies, bad governance, and lack of social justice and rule of law in society and widening gulf of trust between the rulers and the ruled. The study focused on policies and performance of the Musharraf government since assuming the mantle of front ranking ally of the United States in its so called ‘war on terror’. The causes of reversal of pre nine-eleven position on Afghanistan and support of its Taliban’s rulers are examined in the light of the geo-strategic compulsions of that crucial time and the structural weakness of military rule that needed external props for legitimacy. The flaws of the response to the terrorist challenges are traced to its total dependence on the hard option to the total neglect of the human factor from which the thesis develops its argument for a holistic approach to security in which the people occupy a central position.

Rise of Taliban in Waziristan Khan Zeb Burki ∗ Abstract Waziristan is in the eye of the storm since 2001. After the US invasion of Afghanistan and the overthrow of the Taliban government in 2002, Al-Qaeda and Taliban elements slipped into this region. The existing ground realities like terrain, tradition, administrative system, lack of political power, religious feelings, and socio-economic deprivation prevalent in Waziristan provided favourable and feasible ground for the rise and spread of Talibanization. The Pakistani troops moved into FATA to expel foreigners and check their further infiltration into the Pakistani tribal land. Military actions developed a sense of organization among the local Taliban in order to protect their friends and fight defensive jihad in Waziristan and hence Taliban groups emerged. NUMBER of groups emerged, and some prominent groups are Naik Muhammad Group, Abdullah Mehsud Group, Baitullah Mehsud Taliban Commandos, Mullah Nazir Group, Jalal-Ud- Din Haqani Group, Hafiz Gulbahadur Group. In 2007 a coherent group, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) came on the horizon. Soon a split occurred in TTP and Turkistan Baitanni Group and Abdullah Shaheed Group headed by Zain Ud Din stood against TTP. These groups remain dominant and have established their own regulation and Sharia in their area of influence. Counting Drone Strike Deaths October 2012 Dataset for Pakistan 2011 The following is a strike-by-strike comparison of the reported casualty counts of three media tracking organizations – the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ), the New America Foundation (NAF), and the Long War Journal (LWJ) – together with our own independent count based on their sources. Our methodology is discussed in detail in our accompanying report, available online here at the Human Rights Institute of Columbia Law School site. The sources relied on by each organization for each strike are listed in footnotes or in text. Hyperlinks to these sources are available on each organization’s website. In the case of the New America Foundation, the sources are listed in a PDF document which is hyperlinked on their website. Under each strike we have listed the casualty figures provided by each of the three organizations. We have also noted the “range of reported dead” which includes the lowest and highest reported casualty figures without any adjustment. Our own assessment of the reported number of dead is listed under “conclusion”. This may differ from the “range of reported dead”, for example in cases where some of the cited reports are outdated.
