    Corridor X Highway Project Preliminary Design for E-80 Highway NIS – DIMITROVGRAD Section: Prosek-border of Bulgaria CORRIDOR LEVEL EIA REPORT F I N A L Мay 2009 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Introduction and Project Description Construction of the E-80 highway section from Prosek to Dimitrovgrad is stated as one of the highest state priorities and thus the PE “Putevi Srbije” (PEPS), as Project proponent has taken all necessary activities prepared planning, design and environmental documents. On the basis of the preliminary Project designs detailed EIAs were carried out for all 5 sections of the prospective E-80 highway. The five sections are: Prosek – Crvena Reka Crvena Reka – Čiflik Čiflik – Ponor – Pirot Pirot – commencement of Dimitrovgrad bypass Northern Dimitrovgrad bypass 1.1 The PE “Putevi Srbije” (PEPS), as Project proponent, has taken all necessary activities and prepared planning, design and environmental documents. As part of the preparation of preliminary designs preparation, detailed EIA were prepared for all five sections of the proposed E- 80 highway. In accordance with Serbian law, the preliminary designs and EIAs were submitted to the Institute for Nature Protection (INP) and the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments in Serbia (IPCM), which have issued approvals subject to a range of pre-conditions which must be satisfied prior to final approval and receipt of construction permits. The conditions from INP address measures to safeguard vegetation, rare and endangered species and sensitive ecological systems and features, while the IPCM identified important architectural sites which need to be further investigated in order to develop appropriate conservation and mitigation measures. The five existing EIAs were integrated into this Corridor X level EIA Report for section E-80, covering the proposed highway route from Prosek to Pirot and the Norther Dimitrovgrad bypass.

    Project FAct SHEET PIROT REGIONAL LANDFILL REGIONAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT SCHEME - PIROT DISTRICT The Pirot District expands in the south eastern parts of Republic of Serbia. According to the 2011 census it has a population of app. 92,000. Admin- istrative centre of the Pirot District is the city of Pirot, located on major international transversal “Corridor 10”, which links Europe with Asia. Pirot District is also one of the largest county of the Republic of Serbia, in total surface of 1,232km2, which encompasses the municipalities of Pirot, Dimi- trovgrad, Bela Palanka and Babušnica. The four municipalities of Pirot Districts signed an inter-municipal agree- ment (Pirot, Babušnica, Dimitrovgrad and Bela Palanka) in order to es- tablish a Regional solid waste management scheme. The new regional sanitary landfill is located in Pirot municipality (Muntina Padina) near the magisterial road Niš - Pirot. The use of the existing non sanitary dumpsites TOTAL BUDGET: € 11,078,546 is to be discontinued. A regional sanitary landfill Pirot has been constructed PHASE I: € 5,310,000 and operational from January 2013. PHASE II: € 3,295,354 The solid waste management scheme is in compliance with Serbian and PHASE III & IV: € 2,473,192 EU standards. EU Contribution (CARDS 2006): € 3,810,000 PROJECT GOALS (Works € 3,100,000 and TA € 710,000) • Provision of reliable and safe communal waste collection and disposal Environmental Protection Fund: € 1,000,000 in line with EU solid waste management practices • Significant improvement in the overall environmental status of the Municipal Contribution / Pirot Municipality: € 500,000 municipalities • Reduction/elimination of the existing risks to public health due to the existing waste dumps in the region which are classified as K4 : (dumpsites, not fulfilling minimal protection measures, completely filled up, requiring immediate closure, restoration, and recultivation) • Master plan for closure of existing landfills PROJECT SUMMARY 1.

    - JUNE 2021 UNHCR SERBIA UPDATE As at end-June, 5,062 (decrese by 9%) refugees and migrants are in the territory of Serbia, of which 4,117 are accommodated in 19 governmental centres across the country, 41 in specialised institutions for unaccompanied and separated children (UASC), 124 in private accommodation and 780 staying rough outside the centres. 4,111 newcomers to governmental centres were registered in June (comp. to 3,182 in May). Arrivals came mainly through from North Macedonia (80%), Bulgaria (12%), Albania (4%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2%) and a handful from Turkey, Montenegro and Croatia. More than 49% of all arrivals originate from Afghanistan and 28% from Pakistan, followed by [in order of predominance] Somalia, Syria, Bangladesh, Morocco, etc. June saw 1,034 (decrease by 12%) pushbacks from neighboring countries to Serbia (67% from Hungary, 23% from Romania, 8% from Croatia and 2% from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)). Nationals of Syria make up 41% of all the pushbacks, mainly men but also a couple of families, pushed back from Hungary, Romania and Croatia.
