  • Yearbook 2011 2 INTRODUCTION WELCOME to ARCHERY GB's 2011 YEARBOOK
Yearbook 2011 2 INTRODUCTION WELCOME TO ARCHERY GB'S 2011 YEARBOOK his is a booklet designed to acknowledge the many outstanding achievements by many archers over the past 12 months, and to put on record the winners and competitors at our big events of the year, Tsuch as the UK Masters and the GNAM tournament - both highlights of the annual calendar. Not forgetting, of course, our National Series championship, which has made a big impact since its launch two years ago. The glory of tournaments like the GNAM and the National Series, is that anyone can take part, whatever your standard – and if you are a club archer standing along the line alongside the likes of Alison Williamson or Simon Terry, then you will always be encouraged by them, and benefit from the experience. I am a club archer, and I love taking part in these national competitions. OK, so these days, I am unlikely to be among the prize winners, but that is not the point of taking part. I enter competitions because I love shooting, I love the camaraderie, and I thrive on the experience. So whatever standard you shoot at, do not ever be put off entering our national competitions. It really is great fun, you are always among friends, and you will benefit from the experience, be it through learning from others and improving your performances, or by relishing the togetherness of being involved in an archery shoot. Archery is a wonderful sport. An inclusive sport; and the ultimate sport for all. I know that because I have been involved in it as an archer, a judge, a club official for over 30 years, and, over the past 12 months, as Chairman of our National Governing Body.

After captaining the Wales Rugby Union team between 1980-1984 and winning 16 caps, he joined the BBC in Cardiff in 1984 as press and publicity officer for Radio Wales until 1988. He then became rugby correspondent of the Sunday Correspondent until 1990, moving to The Observer in 1991. In that same year he was invited back to BBC Wales to do broadcasting work for BBC Network (London) and continues to make programmes today. The BBC capitalised on his commentary work for major international rubgy games, dispatching him to Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008 to cover archery as part of their broadcasting team for both Olympic Games. For London 2012 Eddie again made up part of the BBC Olympics coverage team, commentating again on archery, but also producing wide-ranging broadcast packages and newspaper articles, as well as the final Review of the Games TV programme, which he researched, scripted and voiced.
