The team finished the First Round year 23-0, and North Carolina extended its win streak to 46 games in a row. Louisville 2, Michigan 1(OT) UConn 2, Fairfield 1 (OT) It was the second matchup of the season between UNC and Princeton.     2014 Tar Heel Field Hockey Up next for the Tar Heels UNC plays its fifth game of the season and third at home on Friday, hosting Syracuse at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The Tar Heels are 4-0 and ranked No. 1 in this week’s national poll. Syracuse is 5-0 and ranked fifth. Friday’s game is the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. After hosting Syracuse, Carolina takes to the road for its next four games – two in Louisville, Ky., and two in Newton, Mass. The Tar Heels won’t play in Chapel Hill again until Oct. 3, when they host Virginia. Top-seeded Mary- land and fourth-seeded Duke meet in the first game at 2 p.m. The winners play Sunday at 4 p.m. for the 2013 NCAA Championship. The Tar Heels are playing in the national semifinals for the fifth year in The 2013 Tar Heels a row, the sixth time in seven years and the 18th time in program history.     Field Hockey DIVISION I 2012 Highlights Princeton defeats North Carolina to capture first national title in program history: For the first time in program history, Princeton won the NCAA Division I championship in a comeback 3-2 victory against North Carolina November 18. Princeton topped the six-time national champions to take the battle between the top two teams in the nation. Princeton won the game off a penalty stroke in the 60th minute from Amanda Bird. The opening minutes of the match were quick paced, as both sides looked to possess the ball, but it was North Carolina that took the initial advantage. The Tar Heels earned consecutive penalty corners in the third and fourth minutes, but Princeton managed to deflect their shot attempts. Before the Tigers were able to fire off a shot of their own, North Carolina was awarded another series of corners. On North Carolina’s fourth corner of the match, Charlotte Craddock sent in the opening goal at 11:26. Down 1-0, Princeton had an offensive surge and moved the ball into the Tar Heel circle. On a drive outside the cage, Kathleen Sharkey was fouled and the Tigers set up their first penalty corner of the game. Julia Reinprecht fed the ball to Katie Reinprecht and Sharkey was there to slam in the tying goal at 17:01. With the score tied at one, the second half opened similarly to the first as both sides exchanged possession, but were unable to convert on penalty corners. The Tigers saw one of their best chances to take the lead in the 44th minute off a Kelsey Byrne drive down the right flank.
