Assistance systems can help prevent accidents and mitigate their effects. The Mercedes-Benz ESF 2019 research vehicle, equipped with Active Brake Assist with extended functionality and an extensive version of the 360° camera system, can provide greater protection for pedestrians and cyclists. When parking and manoeuvring, the vehicle alerts the driver as soon as there is a risk of being hit by a pedestrian or cyclist or initiates automatic braking. And thanks to LED panels and projectors, ESF 2019 builds trust in automated vehicles through commu- nication with the environment - it can make contact with unprotected road users, informing them and warning about dangers.
