Shared street names! On March 7, a ceremonial opening of Gottlieb Daimler Street took place in Jawor. One of the sections of the fully rebuilt Cukrownicza street is named after the genius designer and engineer. MBMPL activates female energy in the region Nearly 300 women took part in the Open Day for Women, which was organized on March 8 by Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Poland in Legnica. The event program was designed so that participants could look at their competences and skills from a broader perspective, see that motoring is a very feminine industry and talk about job opportunities at the newly built Mercedes-Benz engine factory in Jawor. Order of Merit for Mercedes Manager in Poland The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, awarded Dr. Ewa Łabno-Falęcka with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. What will be the next stages of the investment? These and many other questions were answered by representatives of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Poland during the annual meeting with local entrepreneurs, which took place on April 12 at the Bertha Benz Hall at the Regional Museum in Jawor. Ecologically Jawor On April 12, the final of the Eco Star Competition 2019/Jawor edition took place at the Regional Museum in Jawor. The winners of the second edition of the Jawor Eco Competition were students from the Technical and General Secondary School Complex in Legnica: Karolina Maślej and Damian Mejor, who, under the care of Mrs. Grażyna Maciak, prepared a film entitled „Breath of the future”. The main prize was a weekend trip to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. May On May 31, the Mercedes branded logo was installed on the roof of the Mercedes factory, and now also Jawor - the three-pointed star. The logo appeared on cars produced by Daimler in 1902, over 117 years ago. NEWSLETTER | ISSUE XIV | DECEMBER 2019 A YEAR FULL OF CHALLENGES | 9 June The second edition of Girls GO Technology is behind us 16 participants, 6 months, 5 thematic workshops - the second edition of the “Girls GO Technology” project initiated by MBMPL has come to an end. On June 6, at the Regional Museum in Jawor, participants, i.e. students of two schools: the Regional Centre for Vocational and Continuing Education in Jawor and from the School and Facility Complex in Bolków received certificates of completion of the program. From August 23-25, guests were offered gingerbread and Bavarian pretzels at the company’s booth. Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in the brand knowledge competition. September Mechatronics to start! On September 2, 30 students started their first-class education in the mechatronics specialty at the Regional Centre for Vocational and Continuing Education in Jawor. The class is sponsored by MBMPL. At the ceremonial opening of the class, in addition to students, teachers and school management, self-government authorities and representatives of MBMPL appeared.

This study uses desk research methods: descriptive, analytical, and mathematical and statistical (using Excel software). It presents the use pattern of the total area of these lands, according to the forms of protection of their area and subregions administratively separated in this voivodeship. It pays attentions to selected possibilities of multifunctional rural development in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, the source of which are the values of the local natural environment. Analysis of source data showed that in Lower Silesia the total area of naturally valuable areas increased, which are under legal protection. Such areas contribute to the multifunctional development of villages and agriculture. Based on the analysis of specialized studies, it was found that in the vicinity of valuable natural and landscape areas in Lower Silesia, various forms of innovative tourism are developing (eco-agrotourism, thematic villages) and organic farming. This is a favorable phenomenon for ecological (better climate, greater biodiversity) and socio-economic (new jobs in rural areas) reasons.

    Cezary Lipiński University of Zielona Góra Silesia – issues of language and ethnicity in the long 16th century Abstract: The primary issue considered in this paper is the question to what extent Silesia in the long 16th century can be considered a region cohesive in the ethnical and linguistic context. Available research materials indicate deepening bilingual tendencies in the region, however the extent of each of the languages and ethnic groups are impossible to adequately asses due to constant changes in the demographical situation of Silesia, changes brought about by various factors, including economic and political. It is true that humanism formed an integrating factor, which led to the formation of local patriotism. Due to this phenomenon there came to be a belief in the existence of „Silesian Nation” as well as the need to look for a factor binding the population together, something extending beyond the ius soli principle. Seeing as both „the love of Moth- erland – Silesia” and the spreading of the idea of the Silesian Nation were both constructs of groups of humanists and scholars, the first important bridge with the symbolical culture was Latin, quickly replaced by the solidified German-language culture. It dominated lay culture at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century, paving the way for development in the following centuries. Keywords: ethnic structure, national minorities, cultural diversity, languages, multiculturalism Introduction A key focus of this paper is to determine to what extent Silesia in the 16th cen- tury may be regarded as a linguistically and ethnically coherent region. However, a crucial contradiction connected with the issue lies in the very question of the re- gion’s ethnic structure between the 16th and 17th centuries, for both the contempo- rary perception of the notion of nation, as well as the meaning which we com- monly attribute to this notion today, are connected with the processes of forming a nation-state starting from the second half of the 18th century.

REGIO Ideological and Territorial Cohesion of Silesia vol. 3 eds Lucyna Harc, Przemysław Wiszewski, Rościsław Żerelik Silesia under the Authority of the Hohenzollerns (1741–1918) (1741–1918) Silesia under the Authority of Hohenzollerns vol. 3 Silesia under the Authority This volume contains a collection of studies which are the product of research of the Hohenzollerns (1741–1918) on the formation of Silesia as a region in the period 1740-1918. It is another portion of the summary of research undertaken by a team of Polish historians in conjunction with their participation in the programme of the European Science Foundation entitled Cuius regio. An analysis of the cohesive and disruptive forces determining the attachment and commitment of (groups of) persons to and the cohesion within regions. The project’s assumptions were for original analyses to be conducted on five factors significant in the functioning of the region: administration (Paweł Jaworski), economy (Teresa Kulak), social groups (Wanda Musialik and Dorota Schreiber-Kurpiers), ethnic issues (Dorota Schreiber-Kurpiers) and the national and cultural identity of the region’s inhabitants (Teresa Kulak). In each of the spheres analysed in this book, what has been demonstrated is the prevalence of disintegrating factors in the region from the period of its seizure by the armies of Frederick II until the conclusion of World War I. Top-down efforts undertaken by the authorities aimed at integrating the region with the Prussian state, and then with the Reich, did not fully achieve their objectives. The split into the two sub-regions of Upper and Lower Silesia would seem to be inevitable, in spite of particular unifying elements, particularly in the economic sphere during the second half of the 19ʰ and beginning of the 20ʰ century.
