The Opel Association of North America The Opel Association of North America The Official Newsletter of the OANA Vol.8 No.1 – Jan/Feb 2000 OANA CLUB INFORMATION The Opel Association of North America has been in existence as a local club since 1985. From 1994 to 1996 the club saw many transformations, and the O.A.N.A. settled into its current form in 1996. Our purpose now is to provide a source for locating parts, service, tech-help and various forums to exchange information between owners of all Opel models from the 1957 Olympia to any gray market imports that are in North America. We do, however, place a special emphasis on the Opel GT, Manta and Kadett models. Our ultimate goal is to keep the Opel marquee a presence in North America, improve the collectability of all Opels in North America, and most of all, to have fun doing it. The North American Bitter Registry was formed for essentially the same reasons as The Opel Association. A very small number of Bitters (our sister make) SC coupes were imported into the U.S. With the non-existence of any club to help the owners of these rare and exotic cars, it was determined that our club would be the right place to give assistance and help these owners have a place to get connected. · Club membership dues: Net-Only Membership (Members do not get a mailed newsletter; they download it from the net) is $20 for 2 years. Business members are $100 a year (includes business card in newsletter and banner on front page of web site), $50 per ad page per issue. · Mail all membership dues, merchandise orders and advertising to: The Opel Association of North America - 394 Mystic Lane - Wirtz, VA 24184 Our web site and links to our chapter’s web sites: http://www.opel-na.com Site Login: oana PW: 60rekord Join the Opel mailing list : Go to http://www.egroups.com/group/classicopels/info.html to join the North American Classic Opel mailing list OANA CHAPTER INFORMATION Mid-Atlantic Opel Association New England Opel Club Rocky Mountain Opels Texas Opel Club (VA,DE,MD,NC,WV,PA,OH,KY,DC) (MA,CT,NH,RI,VT,ME,NY,NJ) (AZ, CO, MT, NM, UT, WY) ( TX, AR, LA) Elwood Morgan - President Gary Farias - President Branston DiBrell - President Rodney Killingsworth –President 10803 Mockingbird Lane 24 Columbia Rd. 5245 Wainwright Dr. 845 W. 3rd St. Spotsylvania, VA 22553-7764 Swansea, MA 02777 Security, CO 80911 Eddy, TX 76524 Phone -540-582-6015 Phone - 1-(508)-679-2740 Phone - 1-(719)-391-9421 Phone - 1-(972)-672-8820 Email - [email protected] Email - [email protected] Email - [email protected] Email – [email protected] Southern Great Lakes / Mid-West Pacific Northwest Central OK Opel Club (AL, FL, GA, MS, SC, TN) (IL, IN, MI, OH, WS, IA, ND, SD, NB) (ID, OR, WA and AK) (OK, MO, KS) Ken Litke - President Bill Hoffman - President Ed Thomas - President Robert Lee – President Phone - 1-803-279-5796 30725 114th St. 1233 Firpack Dr. SE Phone – 1-(405)-288-6288. During the next two months I will be evaluating another ISP for my personal use. During this period you can contact me at either of the following: [email protected] OR [email protected]. Please keep your annual dues paid up! Respectfully submitted, Erik Larsen - OANA Treasurer FROM THE PREZ Well, first off I want apologize for the second extremely tardy newsletter. I slipped in my duties in getting the information and such to Alan Clift. Why should this matter, and “who is Alan Clift?” you say. Alan is the guest Editor for this and at minimum the next newsletter (it all depends on how long he wants to stay on the hook and how long I can keep him there). I want to say thanks to Alan, for giving me this chance to get caught up in all the other work I have to do. Its been hectic in my house since I have started a web design business that is taking up as much, if not more, of my time than my "real" job. To a bit of business, those on the net and in the mailing list you are by now quite familiar with the OMC/OANA merger "discussion". But for those not familiar, let me try to sum it up as best as I can. The feeling is, for the most part, we can all provide a better service to all Opel owners everywhere with combining our efforts as clubs. There has caused a lot of discussion and nothing is truly settled at this time. If and when it happens, I will assure you that whatever happens will be the best for everyone. As you know, we have discussed going Net Only for many reasons. The biggest is that our regular member base is getting to the point that it is costing a lot to mail a few newsletters. Also, with the OMC having a mailed newsletter as well, it really makes no sense to duplicate efforts. So guess what? As of the end of this year Vol. 8 No.12 (Nov/Dec 2000) will be the OANAs last “mailed” newsletter, whether the OMC and the OANA merge or not. All OANA regular membership renewals will still receive the newsletter till that point and get an additional year of Net-Only membership at the end. All OANA regular members that are left at the end of this year, and do not wish to convert to Net-Only, will be enrolled into the OMC. Also from this point on, when anyone contacts us to be a regular member we will inform him or her of the Net centric way we will be doing things, give them the information on OMC if they wish to continue with a mailed newsletter, the entire Vol.8 year of issues (a similar concept to the way the old NAOGTC did things) and a year of Net membership. I would like to also encourage all OANA members that are on the net, but regular members, to renew as Net-Only members. I hope this doesn't leave any people out in the cold, I am sure the OMC will treat you well and we will make sure that OMC has all club activity information so that you can be informed on any events in your area. We will still be on the net and publishing a PDF downloadable newsletter. Your local chapters will also still be there and of course we still plan on having another "Opels Across America" sometime in next September. If anyone wants to comment on these actions please feel free to call me at 1-804-379-9737, email me (opelprez@opel- na.com) or meet me at the Carlilse Import Show in May. Till next time, Charles D. Goin - OANA President LETTER FROM THE GUEST EDITOR Hello, my name is Alan Clift and I will be your newsletter editor for at least this issue, and probably a few more. First off I want to say I am amazed at the efforts Charles Goin has put into the OANA. I took this job of editor not because of any great interest in doing it, but because Charles has given more then his fair share and he deserves a break. With Elwood taking charge of the MOA chapter, maybe Charles can redirect his energies to something he finds more enjoyable like being the OANA Webmaster and working on his Commodore.

  • Opel Speedster – the Essence of Dynamic Driving
July 31, 2000 Opel Speedster – The Essence of Dynamic Driving • Sporty, mid-engined two-seater demonstrates exemplary road-holding • Lightweight design is the basis for excellent performance • New-generation, aluminum, 2.2-Liter ECOTEC engine with 147 hp meets Euro 4 Rüsselsheim. Offering purists uncompromising driving excitement, the new Speedster is an Opel pioneer in several respects. The two-seater is the brand´s first mid-engined sports car and the first Opel to use aluminum and composite materials for the chassis and body. The Speedster is built for driving enthusiasts who will consciously forego creature comforts for the sake of an uncompromised sports car experience. It covers the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in only 5.9 seconds, reaches a top speed of 220 km/h and demonstrates exemplary agility and road-holding on winding roads. The philosophy behind the Speedster can best be described with the words, “minimal weight, high efficiency, maximum enjoyment”. Intelligent, lightweight design comple- ments a highly efficient new engine to give the Speedster its impressive performance. The aluminum, 2.2-liter, four-cylinder ECOTEC engine, which also powers the Astra Coupé, has 108 kW/147 hp, consumes 8.2 liters of premium fuel (MVEG norm) and already meets the Euro 4 emissions standard. “The Speedster is not just another roadster,” says Hans Demant, Executive Director of Opel´s International Technical Development Center. “Our first priority with the Speed- ster has always been driving dynamics. The extremely low weight of 870 kilograms, a low center of gravity, the concentration of mass at the center of the vehicle, the racing suspension, the brakes and the unassisted steering, make it an absolute dream to drive on winding roads.” The Speedster´s looks are as striking as its performance.

Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Miles Collier Collections Page 1 of 203 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Title: Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Creator: Ludvigsen, Karl E. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order.
