(TUA). 所蔵機関略称(NSMT: 国立科学博物館; NIAES: 農業環境変動研究センター; TUA: 東京農 業大学) 体長♂4.3–5.3 mm,♀5.1–5.9 mm.黄ないし灰褐色地に不規則な黒色斑があり,背面は短い伏 臥毛に覆われる.脚は黄褐色で腿節に黒斑を具え,個体によっては広く暗化する.脛節の基部と 先端部は暗化する.半翅鞘は半透明で翅脈上に黒点をもつものが多く,革質部の先端部は橙色. ヒメナガカメムシ類とは,大型であること,背面から見て結合板が半翅鞘より張り出していることで 区別できる(Fig. 1).幼虫はやや灰色がかった褐色でやや扁平,不規則な黒色斑や白点をちり ばめた色彩をしている(Fig. 2).飼育下の観察では,羽化直後の成虫の革質部先端に橙紋はな いが,羽化後4–5日経過すると赤みを帯びてくることが確認された.この橙紋が本種の判りやすい 特徴である. 河川の堤防や水田畦畔といった草地に生息し,マツヨイグサ属のメマツヨイグサOenothera biennis L.,オオマツヨイグサO. glazioviana MICHELI,コマツヨイグサO. laciniata HILLやユウゲショ ウO. rosea L'HÉR. ex AITONなどから多数採集された.また,ペパーミントMentha × piperita L.から Rostria, No. 63, 2019 89 Figs. 1–4. 1, Neortholomus scolopax成虫♂(松伏町);2, N. scolopax終齢幼虫(流山市);3, メマ ツヨイグサ果実上に集まる本種(松伏町);4, 本種が生息していたメマツヨイグサ群落 (松伏町). も幼虫が得られている.埼玉県松伏町の生息地では,メマツヨイグサの果実上に多数の個体が群 生していた(Figs. 3, 4).厚木市の生息地ではメマツヨイグサの枯死した果実に多数の成虫・幼虫 が生息していた.また,飼育下ではメマツヨイグサの果実だけでなく茎や葉柄から吸汁していると ころも観察されたが,枯死した果実を与えたところほとんどの個体がそこに移動した.このことから 餌資源として植物体も利用するが,種子を好んで吸汁するものと思われる. 本種は永らくOrtholomus STÅL, 1872の一員であったが,HAMILTON (1983)はNeortholomusを 設立し,新大陸産の種をそれに含めた.彼によると,本種は大きさと色彩が変異に富み,著しく広 食性の種で,寄主としてアカバナ科,シソ科をはじめ13科の植物が記録されているという. Summary In 2018, a North American lygaeid bug, Neortholomus scolopax (SAY, 1831) was found in Kanto district, Japan for the first time. In our urgent survey, this species was collected from Ibaraki, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa prefectures. Since this bug appeared suddenly in Japan in 2018, 90 Rostria, No. 63, 2019 it is considered to be introduced very recently from its original habitat. Many adults and nymphs were found on Oenothera bienni, O. glazioviana, O. laciniata and O. rosea (Onagraceae), and a nymph was found on Mentha × piperita (Lamiaceae) as well. 引用文献 HAMILTON, S.     | 421 Resumen LYGAEOIDEA La superfamila Lygaeoidea (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomomorpha) es una de las mayores y más diver- sas, con más de 4000 especies, de Heteroptera. Los hábitats de las especies del grupo son variados, hay grupos arbóreos, geófilos y laminófilos. La mayoría se alimentan de semillas maduras, aunque las Blissidae y algunas Lygaeidae son succionadoras de savia, los Geocoridae son principalmente depredadoras y las Cle- radini (Rhyparochromidae) se alimentan de sangre de vertebrados. Las ninfas viven en los mismos hábitats que los adultos y se alimentan generalmente de las mismas plantas. Actualmente en los Lygaeoidea se reconocen 15 familias, de las cuales 12 han sido registradas de la región Neotropical y 11 de la Argentina: Berytidae, Blissidae, Colobathristidae, Cymidae, Geocoridae, Lygaeidae, Ninidae, Oxycarenidae, Pachygronthidae, Piesmatidae y Rhyparochromidae. Se presenta una breve historia taxonómica, aspectos filogenéticos y de la clasificación actual de la superfamilia, bibliografía de referencia y una clave para la identificación de las familias de la Argentina. Para cada familia se presenta una diagnosis, principales trabajos, aspectos de la bio- logía y la diversidad a nivel mundial y en la Argentina, así como claves para la determinación de los géneros presentes en el pais. Beardsley, Jr. UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII, HONOLULU, HAWAII The genus Nysius is very well represented in the Hawaiian Islands, with over two dozen described species known (Ashlock, 1966; Usinger, 1942; Zimmerman, 1948). Most of these are endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago, although two foreign species have become established on the main islands, and a third species in the Leeward'Islands, since 1960 (Ashlock, 1963; 1966; Beardsley 1965; 1971). The species of Nysius are primarily seed feeders, although at times feeding by adults has caused damage to flowers and foliage of various plants, including crops and ornamentals. In Hawaii these bugs occur most commonly in the drier portions of the islands. They are less common in rainforest environments where they are partially replaced by representatives of endemic orsilline genera such as Neseis Kirkaldy and Oceanides Kirkaldy. In Hawaii Nysius species have been found associated with both endemic and introduced plants at altitudes ranging from sea level to over 13,000 ft. On Haleakala Nysius bugs are a conspicuous element of the insect fauna, and at times certain species may become extremely abundant. In the summit area large aggregations of these bugs, which apparently immigrate from lower elevations, have caused serious nuisance problems in and around scientific and communication installations (Beardsley, 1966). This paper summarizes the known taxonomic and biological information about the Nysius species which occur in Haleakala National Park on the eastern portion of the island of Maui.

Box 346, Stoneville, MS 38776 2Mississippi State University, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology Clay Lyle Building, Mississippi State, MS 39762 ABSTRACT Throughout 1994-2000, adult beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) populations were monitored in the delta and hill regions of Mississippi using pheromone traps. Signifi- cant differences in the mean number of moths trapped were found among different geo- graphical areas of the state. A trend was observed where the greatest number of moths was found in the Mississippi Delta, located in the western region of the state. The lowest number of moths was found in the hills located in the eastern region of the state. An annual profile of beet armyworm populations in the western section of the Mississippi Delta also revealed that wide-scale immigration of this pest typically begins at 200 Julian days (mid-July). This date could be used as a benchmark to determine when and if population levels are high enough to have the potential to cause economic damage to crops in the Mississippi Delta. PRATT, MIN B. RAYAMAJHI AND TED D. CENTER USDA-ARS, Invasive Plant Research Laboratory, 3205 College Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33314 ABSTRACT Melaleuca quinquenervia (Cav.) S. T. Blake, the broad-leaved paperbark tree, has invaded ca. 202,000 ha in Florida, including portions of the Everglades National Park. We performed prerelease surveys in south Florida to determine if native or accidentally introduced arthro- pods exploit this invasive plant species and assess the potential for higher trophic levels to interfere with the establishment and success of future biological control agents. Herein we quantify the abundance of arthropods present on the above-ground portions of saplings and small M. quinquenervia trees at four sites. Only eight of the 328 arthropods collected were observed feeding on M. quinquenervia. Among the arthropods collected in the plants adven- tive range, 19 species are agricultural or horticultural pests. The high percentage of rare species (72.0%), presumed to be transient or merely resting on the foliage, and the paucity of species observed feeding on the weed, suggests that future biological control agents will face little if any competition from pre-existing plant-feeding arthropods. Although omnivory is common and widespread across many animal taxa, the evolutionary origin of omnivory, the selective forces that promote or constrain omni- vory, and the morphological, physiological, and behavioral hurdles that animals have to overcome to become omnivores have not been studied. The goal of this paper is to stimulate the development of ideas concerning the evolution of omnivory. We focus on the terrestrial lineages of the insect order Heteroptera and use published life history data and recent phylogenies to test two hypotheses concerning the evolutionary origin of feeding on both plants and prey: (1) that the propensity to feed on seeds and pollen is correlated with the evolution of omnivory, and (2) that broad host range (polyphagy) is correlated with the evolution of omnivory. In order to test these hypotheses, we mapped the plant part consumed and host plant range of insect species in two heteropteran suborders onto their respective phylogenies and used phylogenetically independent contrasts to test for correlations of these traits with omnivory. We found evidence that seed and pollen feeding and broad host ranges are correlated with the evolution of omnivory within both ancestrally herbivorous and ancestrally predaceous lineages of terrestrial heteropterans. Welti B.A., Kansas State University, 2012 AN ABSTRACT OF A DISSERTATION submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Division of Biology College of Arts and Sciences KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Manhattan, Kansas 2017 Abstract Ecological communities are comprised both of species and their interactions. The importance of species interactions is embraced by ecological network analysis, a framework used to identify non-random patterns in species interactions, and the consequences of these patterns for maintaining species diversity. Here, I investigated environmental drivers of the structure of plant-pollinator and plant-herbivore networks. Specifically, I asked: (1) Do global-scale climate gradients shape mutualistic and antagonistic networks? (2) At a landscape scale (within a 3,487 ha research site), how do contrasting regimes of major grassland disturbances - fire frequency and grazing by bison (Bison bison) - shape plant-pollinator network structure? (3) How do fire and grazing affect plant-grasshopper network structure? And, (4) What is the role of plant species diversity in determining plant-herbivore network structure? At the global scale, variability in temperature was the key climatic factor regulating both antagonistic and mutualistic network structural properties. At the landscape scale, fire and grazing had major consequences for plant-pollinator and plant-herbivore communities. In particular, bison grazing increased network complexity and resistance to species loss for both plant-pollinator and plant-herbivore systems. Results from an experimental grassland restoration that manipulated plant diversity suggest that plant diversity directly affects plant-herbivore structure and increases network stability.
