Eliza Wong Eliza Wong is in the first year of her master’s studies at Juilliard with Laurie Smukler. Wong recently joined the New Haven Symphony as a section violinist. She has frequently performed with the Nashville Symphony since her time as an undergraduate at Vanderbilt University, where she was a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar and a student of Carolyn Huebl. Wong spent the last three summers as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where she was awarded the 2018 Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize. • Juilliard Scholarship

Chae-Won Kim Violinist Chae-Won Kim graduated with honors from Seoul National University. Born in Gunsan, Republic of Korea, she started playing violin and piano at age 5 and debuted at 7 with the Gunsan City Symphony Orchestra, playing Vivaldi’s No. 6. She was concertmaster at the Seoul Arts High School's 60th anniversary . She earned her Bachelor of Music at Seoul National University with honors under Ju-Young Baek and is studying for her Master of Music at Juilliard with Ronald Copes. She has performed solo recitals and has also performed with the Junju and Sungnam city symphony orchestras. She won first prize at the Seoul Arts High School competition. She is planning to play a recital at Kumho Art Hall in Seoul later this year. • Juilliard Scholarship

Keoni Bolding Violist Keoni Bolding has performed as a soloist in notable American venues including , the Kennedy Center, and the U.S. Capitol as well as international venues such as the Chamber Music Festival as a De Simone Young Artist. As an orchestral musician, Bolding has performed with the New World and Charleston symphonies. Aside from , he can be seen playing improv on an Emmy-nominated episode of PBS’ SongCraft Presents. He is pursuing his master’s at Juilliard after completing his undergraduate studies at the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. He plays on a viola made by Hiroshi Iizuka on loan from a private donor. • Kovner Fellowship

Devin Cowan Devin Cowan began the violin at age 4 and participated in Stony Brook Pre-College, New York All-State Conference (2013 and 2014), Kinhaven Music School, Orchestra, and New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music. He began his bachelor’s studies at Oberlin Conservatory as a violinist but finished his degree as a violist. He is pursuing his master’s at Juilliard as a violist. His mentors include Tomoko Fujita, Shannon Thomas, Leslie Fayette, Jinjoo Cho, Kirsten Docter, and Carol Rodland. Cowan has attended festivals including Encore Chamber Music, Encore Solo Academy, Orford Musique, and Kinhaven Young Artist Program. In his free time, he enjoys biking. • Juilliard Scholarship

Daniel Hass Daniel Hass (BM ’17, ) is the gold medal winner of the 2016 Stulberg International String Competition as well as the 2016 winner of the Canada Council for the Arts Michael Measures Prize. The Israeli-Canadian cellist made his solo orchestral debut with the Symphony Orchestra at age 15, performing Lalo’s Cello Concerto. He has performed as soloist with orchestras and in recital across . He has been featured several times on CBC national radio and NPR’s From the Top. As a Perlman Music Program alumnus, he has played numerous under the baton of and performed with various chamber music groups. He has participated in master classes with internationally renowned cellists including Gary Hoffman, Frans Helmerson, , Janos Starker, and Benjamin Zander. He has served as principal cellist of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Juilliard Orchestra. Having studied at Juilliard with , Hass has also received training at the Israel Conservatory, Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where he studied with David Hetherington, New England Conservatory in Boston where he studied with Paul Katz, and Perlman Music Program where he studied with Ron Leonard. Hass performs on a 1914 Eugenio Degani Cello on loan by a private donor. • Juilliard Scholarship

Raffi Boden Cellist Raffi Boden is a graduate student of Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins at Juilliard. He was the winner of the 2018 Oberlin Conservatory Concerto Competition and performed Britten’s Cello Symphony with the Oberlin Orchestra last spring. He also gave the Oberlin premiere of Yuan-Chen Li’s concerto Wandering Viewpoint with the Contemporary Music Ensemble and frequently served as principal cellist of the orchestra. Boden has won fellowships to study at the Kneisel Hall and Aspen festivals. He made his international debut in Paris in 2018, performing in a trio with French clarinetist Michel Lethiec and in the solo concert series at L’Église des Blancs Manteaux. A dedicated performer of new music, Boden premiered several new works at Oberlin as a member of the Contemporary Music Ensemble. Max Tan Taiwanese-American violinist Max Tan has appeared as soloist with many orchestras including the Juilliard Orchestra, New Juilliard Ensemble, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, and Lowell Philharmonic, Longwood Symphony, Boston Philharmonic Youth, and Harvard-Radcliffe orchestras. He is an active recitalist and chamber musician, having recently made concert debuts in Taiwan and Shanghai, and frequently performing recitals in Sarasota. The recipient of numerous awards, Tan most recently won the 2019 Foote Prize from the Harvard Musical Association. Tan has been featured on WQXR, Belgian radio Musiq3, and Canvas as a semifinalist in the 2019 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition. An alumnus of the Perlman Music Program, Yellow Barn, Ravinia Steans Music Institute, and Music@Menlo, he performs annually at Sunset ChamberFest in and teaches at Universal Artists Festival. Tan is a faculty assistant at Juilliard, studying with Catherine Cho and Donald Weilerstein. • Celia Ascher Doctoral Fellowship

Catherine Cho Violinist Catherine Cho (BM ’92; MM ’94, violin) has appeared as soloist with the Detroit, National, and Virginia symphony orchestras; , Edmonton, and National Arts Centre orchestras in Canada; Korean Broadcasting Symphony, Daejon Philharmonic, and Seoul Philharmonic in Korea; Barcelona Symphony; orchestra of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; New Zealand Symphony Orchestra; and Aspen Chamber Symphony. She has toured Israel with the Haifa Symphony and was the soloist on a concert tour in Japan and Korea with the Juilliard Orchestra and conductor . She has recorded works by Harbison, Lerdahl, and Moravec for Bridge Records. Cho was a participant in the Marlboro Music Festival from 1993 to 2001, and she has taken part in 11 Musicians From Marlboro national tours. She is a founding member of the chamber ensemble La Fenice and was in the Johannes String from 2003 to 2006. A winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Cho won top prizes at the Montreal, Hanover, and Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competitions. She is a member of the violin and chamber music faculties at Juilliard and has taught at the Starling-DeLay Symposium, New York String Seminar, Heifetz Institute, Great Mountains Music School and Festival, and Perlman Music Program. Devoted to the cause of promoting peace through music, Cho was vice president of the Board of Musicians for Harmony and she is an artist member for Music for Food, a musician-led initiative for local hunger relief.

Sophia Steger Sophia Steger is in her junior year at Juilliard studying with Catherine Cho. A top prizewinner in numerous New York-area competitions, she has performed as soloist with orchestras including the New York Chamber Players, Seniors Orchestral Society of New York, Manhattan School of Music Precollege Symphony, and New York International Chamber Orchestra, and performed “Winter” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons as soloist with the Aizuri Quartet. As a chamber musician, she has performed at Carnegie Hall for the ’s 40th anniversary concert, WQXR’s the Greene Space, New York Performing Arts Library, Queens Museum, Hilary Hahn’s CD release event for her album In 27 Pieces, 350NYC’s 2018 end-of-year event, Music For Food, and festivals including the Aspen Music Festival and Heifetz Institute. Rannveig Marta Sarc Born into a family of musicians, Icelandic-Slovenian violinist Rannveig Marta Sarc (BM ’18, violin) has been a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic, and Iceland Youth Orchestra, among others. She has received numerous awards, including first prize at the TEMSIG National Music Competition of Slovenia and third prize at the New York International Artists Competition. In 2017 she was a recipient of the American Scandinavian Society cultural grant and the Jean Pierre Jacquillat Foundation grant. As a chamber musician, she has appeared at festivals such as Ravinia, Taos, Open Chamber Music at Prussia Cove, and Kneisel Hall. She has performed with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players and was a member of the Kahlo Quartet as part of Juilliard’s Honors Chamber Music program. For two years she was part of Juilliard’s Gluck Community Service Fellowship, bringing the arts into community centers and health-care facilities in New York in collaborations with dancers and actors. At Juilliard, Sarc received her bachelor’s under Laurie Smukler and is pursuing her master’s studying with Donald Weilerstein and Catherine Cho. • Kovner Fellowship

Lisa Sung Violist Lisa Sung is a laureate of international competitions including the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition 2016, Manhattan International Music Competition 2017, and Vienna International Music Competition 2019. She has appeared as concerto soloist at the Sydney Opera House and in chamber music recitals at Alice Tully Hall. She is a guest musician with the and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as well as a member of Jupiter Chamber Players, performing lesser-known chamber works. Her festival appearances include the most prestigious festivals in the world including the Academy, Music@Menlo International Program, Taos School of Music, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and IMS Prussia Cove. She is pursuing her Master of Music degree with Paul Neubauer and Cynthia Phelps at Juilliard. • Kovner Fellowship

Sarah Sung Australian-Korean violist Sarah Sung takes music beyond the stages of Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House, travelling globally to broken communities since age 8. With Drake Driscoll and Timothy Chooi, she is cofounder of VISION Collective, a nonprofit that builds meaningful relationships with and among refugees by sharing and exchanging music between diverse communities. Sung is in the accelerated bachelor’s/master’s program at Juilliard, studying with Paul Neubauer and Cynthia Phelps. She is part of the Gluck Fellowship program and serves as a principal violist of the Juilliard Orchestra. Festival appearances include Yellow Barn, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove and Open Chamber Music, directed by Steven Isserlis. • Marjorie and John Lewis Scholarship, Pfeifenberger Scholarship

Clara Abel Cellist Clara Abel’s love of music began at home, playing string with her family, eventually leading her to study with Joel Krosnick at Juilliard, where she is pursuing her master’s. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout the Midwest and in NYC. A devoted chamber musician, she has participated in festivals such as Kneisel Hall and Clasclas International Music Festival as well as at the Juilliard Seminar, Juilliard’s Honor’s Quartet program, and ChamberFest. She is a substitute cellist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and New York Classical Players. Abel enjoys playing in a range of musical styles including historical performance, improvisation, and crossover, and she has performed and made premiere recordings of several contemporary works. She plays a 1756 Contreras cello generously on loan from Juilliard. • Kovner Fellowship

Andrew Cone Cellist Andrew Cone made his solo debut at age 11 with the Ars Nova Musicians and performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic at 12 under the baton of JoAnn Falletta. A previous winner of the Interlochen Concerto Competition, he will perform the Haydn Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Buffalo Philharmonic this month. As a chamber musician, Cone has worked with string quartets such as the Brentano, Borromeo, Miro, Takacs, Juilliard, and . He is a founding member of the Abeo Quartet, a Juilliard Chamber Music Honors Ensemble recently awarded the second prize at the Fischoff Competition, senior strings division, and performed a concert cycle of seven Haydn quartets at the Absolutt Haydn Festival in Norway.
