Two of the returning starters, senior Riley Whimpey and redshirt junior Ezekiel Noa, have each suffered a torn ACL in the past two seasons, with Whimpey having his 2018 season cut short, and Noa having last season abruptly ended by the injury . Whimpey rebounded in 2019 to be named to the All-Mountain West Second Team, leading Boise State with 83 tackles while making 7 .0 tackles-for-loss, a pair of sacks, and breaking up seven passes in coverage . Noa, meanwhile, was off to a great start in 2019, making 28 tackles, with 3 0. for loss, before suffering his season-ending knee injury in the fourth contest .

The Pasadena, Calif ., native led the Mountain West in punt-return average (13 .2 yards per return) for the second time in three years in 2019, and ranked seventh in the country . His two punt-return scores tied for the most in the country, and he even chipped in two blocked kicks on special teams .

Williams was also named to the College Football America 2020 Yearbook’s “Group of Five Starting Lineup” at punt returner this summer .

Boise State unveiled a new look for the 2017 season, the first time the Broncos had overhauled their Nike uniforms since 2011 .

Included in the new slate were blue, orange and white, and the jerseys featured new stripes on the sleeves and “Blue Collar” on the inside of the neck . The Broncos added a black set of uniforms that were unveiled against Air Force, Sept . 20, 2019 .

The uniforms are from the Nike Vapor Untouchable line, with stretch woven material, a seamless front and shoulders and laser perforation fabric instead of mesh . The uniforms combine materials and science designed for speed and comfort for the players, based on four core principles – fit, durability, weight and core body temperature .

Bryan Harsin, a former Boise State quarterback, assistant coach and offensive coordinator, is in his seventh year as the head coach at his alma mater in 2020 . Harsin boasts a record of 64-17 at Boise State, an average of more than 10 wins per season . Overall, he is 71-22 as a head coach – including one season at Arkansas State – and has led his programs to bowl games in each season .

In his debut season Harsin led his alma mater back to where it rose to national prominence . Boise State went 12-2 in 2014, winning its first outright Mountain West Championship and capping the campaign with a 38-30 victory over Arizona in the 2014 VIZIO Fiesta Bowl .

The victory in the Fiesta Bowl was the third such win for the Broncos in the previous nine seasons . Harsin, serving as offensive coordinator in the first two Fiesta Bowl victories, has been a part of each of the school’s three appearances in the game .
