Sept. 10 against Washington State, it was cornerback Tyler Horton with the 85-yard pick-six on the opening drive of the game to put the Broncos up, 7-0, and on Sept. 24 at Oregon State it was middle linebacker Darren Lee stripping Beaver receiver Seth Collins and taking it 19 yards to the end zone in the fourth quarter. Lee’s play helped ice the win for the Broncos, as the Beavers had cut the Boise State lead to 14 (31-17) and was looking to drive for a score to make it a one-possession game.

MONEY DOWN: Through six games Boise State’s defense has answered the call when it comes to third-down plays, as opponents have been successful on only 37-of-106 third-down conversions (34.9 percent). That fi gure ranks 38th in the country and third in the Mountain West. Saturday night, Colorado State went just 3-for-14 on its third-down plays as the Bronco defense did its job in getting off the fi eld. VALLEJO MAKING PLAYS: Linebacker Tanner Vallejo is enjoying a productive senior season, racking up 36 tackles, tied for second on the team despite missing Oct. 1’s contest against Utah State. Bryan Harsin, a former Boise State quarterback, assistant coach and off ensive coordinator, is in his third season as the head coach at his alma mater.

In his debut season Harsin led his alma mater back to where it rose to national prominence. Boise State went 12-2 in Harsin’s inaugural season, winning its fi rst outright Mountain West Championship, and capping the campaign with a 38-30 victory over Arizona in the 2014 VIZIO Fiesta Bowl.

The victory in the Fiesta Bowl was the third such win for the Broncos in the previous nine seasons. Harsin, serving as off ensive coordinator in the fi rst two Fiesta Bowl victories, has been a part of each of the school’s three appearances in the game.

The team’s victory in the 2014 Sports Authority Mountain West Football Championship marked the team’s fi rst outright league title since joining the league in 2011, and the fi rst overall since 2009. Albertsons Stadium - and Lyle Smith Field - is the home of Boise State football and the annual .

Smith is the undisputed father of Bronco football, who from 1946-67 built one of the top junior college programs in the country. When he retired from his head coaching position to become the athletic director, Smith had a record of 156-25-6 (.850).

Completed during the summer of 1970 at a cost of $2.2 million, what was originally known as Bronco Stadium had a seating capacity of 14,500. Since that time the stadium has expanded four times to its current capacity of 36,387.
