Workshop Description Gain a deeper understanding of your knitting! Try a wide variety of types of Double Knitting (DK) to produce two-sided fabrics. Make a voyage of discovery, starting with tubular knitting on straight needles, creating tubes within tubes and the options they present. Experiment and play with yarns, learn about yarn storage, handling and preparation of palettes for your projects. Compose your own yarn without spinning and blend your own colours without a dyepot by mixing weights and fibres. Workshop Description Make an exploratory journey into other realms of Double Knitting (which produces two-layer fabrics). We will begin with tubes within tubes, worked in the round, initially with a single yarn, two yarns and then with colour patterning. We will look at different ways to handle the yarns for maximum efficiency and how to incorporate shapings into double fabrics, topped off with tubular bind-off. Workshop Description A novel method of shaping intarsia color blocks to avoid the jagged look of sloping lines within geometric intarsia. Whilst making our bag we will cover many useful techniques including; a provisional cast-on, preparation for intarsia projects and basic intarsia principles, a look at a variety of suitable and decrease methods, an elegant buttonhole for rib and various finishing and embellishment ideas. We will also take a look at some of the design possibilities for this type of intarsia. Workshop Description This class is designed for both newer and seasoned knitters who would like to learn to read and understand their . With these skills, row counters and paper records become aids rather than lifelines! We will look at the following: The structure of a knit fabric both Stocking stitch and Garter and what makes for a contented stitch. The Long tail / Continental cast-on method and how to make it do your bidding. Decreases and how to recognise them, increases and their differences. Dropping stitches and staging rescues. Workshop Description Design, knit and felt your own Snowflake bag! Techniques covered will include design ideas, circular two-colour knitting, use of circular and dpns, double knitting, finishing techniques, felting. Part 1 will cover starting your strap using a simple double knitting technique and designing the side panels of your bag. The motif will begin from folded paper snowflakes (back to Kindergarten!) which we will then translate into a chart. The first bag side will be cast on and knitting commenced.

Between classes it is anticipated that you will complete the length of the strap and the first side of the bag.

Part 2 we will join the strap and set the side of the bag onto the strap and complete the finish and fastenings at the top of the bag. Any completed bags may be felted in class. We will look at chain-mail construction and make a pair of hoop earrings or a bracelet.

Kitchener Stitch) involves no loose stitches and gives two neat corners regardless of your style of knitting. Every knitter should fully understand the concept of grafting and this method in particular even if they can manage to avoid it by knitting toe-up socks!

Workshop Description It’s an ongoing source of fascination to me as to how to capture significant quantities of nothingness within knitting, in larger than traditional lace holes. We’ll take a look at single and double yarn-over lace holes and a series of different methods of making larger holes and how they can be employed to give a variety of effects. We’ll look at using waste yarn to create openings, with a crochet chain to hold the edges and the versatility of the marvellous scallop hole, which may be used for an all over fabric, for detailing and as a method for increasing and decreasing. How to handle multiple yarn overs and create new stitches. Even if you don’t currently plan to make holes in your knitting, there are many useful mainstream spinoffs for these techniques.

Supplies • Double pointed or circular needles in a size to suit your yarn. • Smooth worsted weight yarns in at least two bright, solid colours. (Precise yarn weight is not critical.) Homework • Crochet hook None. • Scissors and your usual knitting paraphernalia.
