The pattern of examinations become tough. This is the reason that a right choice of study materials plays a very important role. This book cover thoroughly all the basics of the whole course as well as present to the examinee a wide spectrum of the multiple choice questions having a huge variety. The author has made a sincere attempt in this direction in the present book. Various unique features of the book are as under for example : ☛ A brief review of concepts at a glance covering all fundamentals and important conclusions are given at the start of every chapter. ☛ Chapters are classified under different units. ☛ Multiple choice questions in every chapter are arranged in a systematic and sequencial way covering the whole text and spectrum of the chapter. ☛ Answers are provided at the end of every chapters. ☛ Model Test Papers covering the whole syllabus are also provided at the end of the book again with their answers. These papers will prove to be fit for examina- tion and provide a chance to students in assessing their level of preparation. The present book is self-sufficient in all respects. I am thankful to my wife Mrs. Rita Mishra who has put a hard labour in reading the proofs thoroughly and pointing out errors and omissions. My sincere thanks are also to publisher Mr. Mahendra Jain who gave me a chance to write this type of books. This edition is a nice form. Although all attempts have been made to avoid errors and printing mistakes, but omissions are a human weakness and, therefore, constructive suggestions, modifica- tions and errors brought to my notice will be highly appreciated and incorporated in the next edition. —Pramod Kumar Mishra CONTENTS Part A : Auto-Engine 1. • The Jensen Interceptor: Chrysler-Powered British Luxury
The Jensen Interceptor: Chrysler- Powered British Luxury Allan and Richard Jensen's auto business was started before World War II, which interrupted production until 1950, when their first Interceptor was made. At the time, they made Austin bodies under contract, and the first Interceptor resembled an Austin A40 (the Jensens built bodies for a string of cars that included the Volvo P1800, Sunbeam Tiger, and Austin-Healey.) The first Interceptor used a 4 liter Austin in-line six, and was produced in small numbers for over a decade. Jensen also used Nash Twin-Ignition Eight engines for a time, and the 1962 C-V8 used a Chrysler 361 B-block engine. A number of these early Jensens made their way to the US before and after World War II. The next version kept the basic C-V8 chassis, but changed styling. Initially, an in-house convertible design was planned, but chief engineer Kevin Beattie argued for an Italian flavor. Proposals were taken from different design houses, with Carozzeria Touring winning out with a fastback coupe incorporating a rounded tail, but that house was unable to finalize the design. Vignale, instead, provided prototype and initial production bodies, rendered in steel, on CV-8 chassis sent to them by Jensen. Turnaround was quick - about four months - so the new Interceptors could be shown in London in October 1966. Jensen later used the jigs and tools, which were sent by Vignale to the West Bromwich factory. The body had two doors, a low beltline, and fishbowl rear glass in a handsome 2+2 design.

9/21/2020 Kjell Qvale Dies at 94; Married U.S. to Sports Cars - The New York Times https://nyti.ms/183z3Rp Kjell Qvale Dies at 94; Married U.S. to Sports Cars By Douglas Martin Nov. 12, 2013 Kjell Qvale, who fell in love with a forest-green, wire-wheel MG sports car in the 1940s and went on to become one of the earliest American importers of European cars, ultimately selling a million automobiles as a distributor and dealer, died on Nov. 1 in San Francisco. He was 94. His family announced the death. As a recently discharged Navy veteran, the Norwegian-born Kjell Qvale (pronounced shell KAH-vah-leh) entered the car business in 1946, using $8,500 in savings to invest in a Jeep dealership in Alameda, Calif. He had no particular passion for cars at the time; to him, this was strictly a business proposition. It was also strictly business when he made a trip to New Orleans to meet with an importer to discuss expanding his line by adding James motorcycles, a not-terribly-fast British make known for its Jeep-like practicality. There, Mr. Qvale found himself standing on a street corner when “this goofy-looking car pulls up to the curb in front of me,” he said in an interview in 2008. He asked the driver where it was made. “England,” the driver said. The car was the MG, and the driver turned out to be the importer of motorcycles he had come to see. He gave Mr. Qvale a ride. It also turned out that the importer was looking for someone to market MGs in Northern California.

  • Alan and Richard Jensen Produced Their First Car in 1928 When They
Alan and Richard Jensen produced their first car in 1928 when they converted a five year old Austin 7 Chummy Saloon into a very stylish two seater with cycle guards, louvred bonnet and boat-tail. This was soon sold and replaced with another Austin 7. Then came a car produced on a Standard chassis followed by a series of specials based on the Wolseley Hornet, a popular sporting small car of the time. The early 1930s saw the brothers becoming joint managing directors of commercial coachbuilders W J Smith & Sons and within three years the name of the company was changed to Jensen Motors Limited. Soon bodywork conversions followed on readily available chassis from Morris, Singer, Standard and Wolseley. Jensen’s work did not go unnoticed as they received a commission from actor Clark Gable to produced a car on a US Ford V8 chassis. This stylish car led to an arrangement with Edsel Ford for the production of a range of sports cars using a Jensen designed chassis and powered by Ford V8 engines equipped with three speed Ford transmissions. Next came a series of sporting cars powered by the twin-ignition straight eight Nash engine or the Lincoln V12 unit. On the commercial side of the business Jensen’s were the leaders in the field of the design and construction of high-strength light alloys in commercial vehicles and produced a range of alloy bodied trucks and busses powered by either four-cylinder Ford engines, Ford V8s, or Perkins diesels. World War Two saw sports car production put aside and attentions were turned to more appropriate activities such as producing revolving tank gun turrets, explosives and converting the Sherman Tank for amphibious use in the D-Day invasion of Europe.

  • The Riley One-Point-Five Sports Sedan by Rick Feibusch
The Riley One-Point-Five Sports Sedan By Rick Feibusch The late 1950's imported car boom in America was fueled by dozens of mechanically interesting and unusual cars that were brought to us from all over the world. American car buyers had gone through the car famine of the war-torn Forties, the reintroduction of outdated prewar models, and the plethora of new cars from US manufacturers, starting with the Studebaker in mid-1946 through the revolutionary Chevy V8s in 1955. One thing was cl ear, American cars were generally getting bigger, faster and flashier by the day. The British had opened the imported car market in the States years before Japanese or European manufacturing firms had recovered from the hostilities. The jaunty MGs, awe i nspiring Jaguars and economical Austins, Hillmans and Morris Minors had demonstrated to America that there was an alternative to the oversized, overpowered and rocket ship styled domestic offerings. Foreign car sales started to climb and actually take of f once cars from Europe and Scandinavia appeared on our shores. By 1957, the numbers had become big enough to alarm the usually lethargic Detroit to a point that the big three had “import fighting” compacts on their respective drawing boards. Americans ha d become less skeptical and the foreign car business was here to stay. The most memorable examples were the sleek and impressive sports and luxury cars imported from Germany and England and low-production Italian exotics. While thousands of clever and ec onomical little transportation devices built by Austin, Morris, Renault, Volkswagen and others made their way to our shores each year.

  • Firmengeschichte Although the Jensen Brothers Changed the Name
Firmengeschichte Although the Jensen brothers changed the name of W J Smith, the original incorporation date of that company would still apply, would it not? Hence the 1922 date, perhaps. In fact, when Kjell Q acquired the company he set his team to work to try and prove the earliest foundation date in order to impress US customers, always keen on antiquity, I believe. I think that they managed to trace the origins back to around the 1880's and incorporated this in one of the sales brochures, although the links were a bit tenuous. The idea was to establish a link with historical coachbuilding history, and why not. Alan und Richard Jensen, Norcros Both Jensen brothers had been in poor health since the late 1950s, which had prompted them, in 1959, to apply to and become members of the Norcros Group, a Holding Company created by John Sheffield to take over family businesses which had good growth prospects, but which faced potential financial problems such as death duty tax. The agreement was that Alan and Richard would stay and run the company for five years, alternating each year for the position of chairman. In the meantime Norcros would recruit a new managing director to take over when the brothers retired, scheduled for 1964/5. The financial boost provided by Norcros allowed Jensen to take on the Volvo P1800 contract and future developments for sub-contract work for Rootes, which led to their association with Chrysler when the Rootes Group were taken over by them. * Alan Jensen retired in 1963 after further health problems but remained on the Board.
