New York State has over one-half of all COVID-19 cases in the United States. We must mobilize all resources possible in an expeditious manner to mitigate public health risk and economic decimation. Absent federal intervention, the earliest New York State would qualify for Extended Unemployment Benefits is April, allowing benefits to be distributed in May to individuals who qualify. However, the situation in New York State grows increasingly urgent. On Thursday, March 19th, the New York State Labor Department registered more than 206,000 website logins and 159,000 phone calls by 12:00PM, a 400% increase over the average. Some parts of New York reported a 1000% increase in claims. The next day, New York State was declared a major disaster area. According to Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus Task Force Coordinator, the practice of social distancing is especially important in New York, as individuals in the New York City are testing positive for COVID-19 at a rate of 28%, compared to 8% nationwide. Every sector of New York’s economy is impacted by COVID-19 for the foreseeable future, including food, transportation, arts, entertainment, retail, education, real estate, and non-profit. While the public health and economic environment created by COVID-19 is unprecedented in modern history, it is certain that thousands of New Yorkers will rely on unemployment assistance.

The only other potential appointee to break double figures is Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who was the top pick for 23% of respondents and the second with 35%. Kennedy and Cuomo are each very popular with New York Democrats. Kennedy is viewed favorably by 75% and unfavorably by just 11%. Complaints may increase once rejected businesses learn a self-employed left wing website that incessantly attacks Republicans, cherished cultural institutions and respected families across Erie County, also posted the N-word on social media. • Regardless of the reason and no matter why the word was used, is it appropriate for taxpayer dollars to be awarded to a blog that has used the N-word in any context? • Take the distribution of public tax dollars out of the equation.     Dear President Biden, We are writing to express the urgent need for your Administration to immediately sign an Emergency Presidential Determination to formalize the proposed revised FY21 refugee admissions goal of 62,500, restore regional allocations, and resume resettlement based on vulnerability. Having fought for four years against the Trump Administration’s full-scale assault on refugee resettlement in the United States, we were relieved to see you commit to increasing our refugee resettlement numbers so early in your Administration. But until the Emergency Presidential Determination is finalized, our refugee policy remains unacceptably draconian and discriminatory. We have all been deeply distressed at the stories of hundreds of refugees who had been cleared for resettlement having their flights cancelled at the last minute, in some cases having already left their residences and sold their belongings.1 We must keep our promises to people who have fled unthinkably brutal conditions in their home countries and live up to our ambition to provide them a safe haven to re-start their lives. Further, finalizing the Emergency Presidential Determination is a critical step to raise the cap and restore geographic allocations to ensure diversity among admitted refugees. The prior administration’s highly restrictive admission categories and bans on the resettlement of refugees from Somalia, Syria, and Yemen have a strong impact on the diversity of refugees, and disproportionately exclude Muslim refugees and those fleeing some of the world’s worst crises in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Without this immediate action, the International Rescue Committee now reports that your Administration is currently on track to admit fewer refugees than any other President in U.S.
