SAÊBANES, MAFYLAND PÊTER WELCH, VEFMONT www.oversight.house.gov March 27,2008 The Honorable Condoleezza F.ice Secretary U.S. Department of State 2201C Street, NW V/ashinglon, DC 20520 Dear Madam Secretary: Today's New York Times raises questions about the actions of AEY Inc., a company with several U.S. government contracts to provide weapons, ammunition, and munitions to military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.r The Oversight Committee plans to hold a hearing on these matters at 10:00 a.m. on April 17, 2008, in Room 2157 of the Raybum House Offrce Building. I request that the senior State Department official with knowledge of the Department's contracts with the company provide testimony at the hearing. At the hearing, please be prepared to discuss the scope of AEY's contracts with the Department, efforts by the Department to determine whether AEY is a responsible contractor capable of adequate performance under federal contracts, the Department's efforts to investigate allegations that AEY may have violated U.S. law and government contracting regulations, and any actions the Department has taken against the company as a result of such investigation. The Committee will be sending you under separate cover a request for documents relating to this issue. In addition, I request that your Department provide a briefing with Committee staff on or before April I l, 2008. The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is the principal oversight committee in the House of Representatives and has broad oversight jurisdiction as set forth in House Rule X.
