ILLINOIS CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION 117th Congress Two Senators represent each state in the U.S. Senate and are elected to serve six-year terms. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D) of Springfield was elected to represent Illinois for a fifth term in 2020. Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates (D) was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016. (See pages 16-19 for U.S. Senator photos and biographies.) In the November 2020 general election, Illinois voters elected 18 candidates to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives for two-year terms. Thirteen Democratic and five Republican U.S. Representatives were elected to serve in the 117th Congress. The November 2020 general election was historical, with the most women ever elect- ed to serve in Congress. Democrat Marie Newman and Republican Mary Miller — repre- senting districts that were previously held by men — added to the increase of female Representatives. Newman definitively won the general election to represent the 13th District after defeating 16-year incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinksi (D) in the March pri- mary. Miller won the 15th District seat that was previously held by U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R), who served 12 terms in Congress and opted not to run for reelection. Since 1818, Illinois has had a total of 20 female U.S. Representatives. In 2021, seven are currently rep- resenting our state — a record-breaking total. • Led a Letter
March 26, 2020 Donald Trump President 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington, D.C. 20500 Dear President Trump: We write to urge the immediate approval of extended unemployment benefits passed in Public Law No.: 116-127, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, for the State of New York. New York State has over one-half of all COVID-19 cases in the United States. We must mobilize all resources possible in an expeditious manner to mitigate public health risk and economic decimation. Absent federal intervention, the earliest New York State would qualify for Extended Unemployment Benefits is April, allowing benefits to be distributed in May to individuals who qualify. However, the situation in New York State grows increasingly urgent. On Thursday, March 19th, the New York State Labor Department registered more than 206,000 website logins and 159,000 phone calls by 12:00PM, a 400% increase over the average. Some parts of New York reported a 1000% increase in claims. The next day, New York State was declared a major disaster area. According to Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus Task Force Coordinator, the practice of social distancing is especially important in New York, as individuals in the New York City are testing positive for COVID-19 at a rate of 28%, compared to 8% nationwide. Every sector of New York’s economy is impacted by COVID-19 for the foreseeable future, including food, transportation, arts, entertainment, retail, education, real estate, and non-profit. While the public health and economic environment created by COVID-19 is unprecedented in modern history, it is certain that thousands of New Yorkers will rely on unemployment assistance.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 9, 2008 INTERVIEWS: DEAN DEBNAM 888-621-6988 / 919-880-4888 (serious media inquiries only please, other questions can be directed to Tom Jensen) QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POLL: TOM JENSEN 919-744-6312 Kennedy Top Choice for New York Democrats Raleigh, N.C. – Caroline Kennedy is the most popular pick with New York Democrats as Hillary Clinton’s replacement in the Senate, the newest survey from Public Policy Polling finds. 44% say she’s their top choice, with another 24% saying she’s their second choice from a list of potential candidates. The only other potential appointee to break double figures is Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who was the top pick for 23% of respondents and the second with 35%. The other six candidates polled, including four members of Congress and two prominent local government officials, were the favored choice with anywhere from 3 to 6% of those surveyed. Kennedy and Cuomo are each very popular with New York Democrats. Kennedy is viewed favorably by 75% and unfavorably by just 11%. Cuomo has a 76% approval rating in his work as Attorney General with just 9% unhappy with his job performance. “It’s clear that Caroline Kennedy and Andrew Cuomo are the only candidates under serious consideration who have much name recognition,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The good news for David Paterson is that both of them are very popular with the Democratic base, and he couldn’t really go wrong by appointing either of them.” One other piece of good news for the Governor is that he has a more than 7:1 approval to disapproval rating with Democrats in the state, at 68-9.
