The ICSP is the premier event of the Stochastic Programming Society (SPS), a technical session of the Mathematical Optimization Society that brings together researchers who work on decisions under uncertainty, practitioners in the industrial and institutional sectors share recent theoretical and applied results. The conference aims to present the state-of-the-art in this field as well as neighbouring scientific areas. The local organization committee and programme committee look forward to welcome you to Trondheim for exciting and inspiring days together at XV ICSP! Other major cities in Norways are Bergen and the capital Oslo. Trondheim is said to be founded in 997 by Olav Tryggvason, a retired Viking and later crowned king of Norway. A statue of Olav Tryggvason is found in the city center. The construction of Nidaros Cathedral started around 1070 and it is the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world. Photo Pavel Szubert The cathedral was built over the burial site of Saint Olav. Saint Olav was canonized in 1164 by Pope Alexander III and thereafter universally recognized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church. The sculptures on the west side of the church are famous biblical figures, catholic saints and some former Norwegian kings. During maintenance on the sculpture of Archangel Michael, the artist gave him the face of Bob Dylan. Photo: Visit Trondheim Photo Michael Schuerle The river Nidelva runs through the city center. Along Nidelva old tree houses, dating back to the 19th century, is a popular view for tourists. The camera is aimed at Bakklandet, an idyllic district known for its many old tree houses. NTNU also has a central role in Trondheim. In 1996 the university was established, but with roots back to 1910, when the Norwegian Institute of Technology was established. Today the university has about 40 000 students where 34 000 of the students are located in Trondheim. The remaining are located at the campuses in Gjøvik and Aalesund. On behalf of the conference crew, we hope you will enjoy the ICSP conference and your stay in Trondheim. While walking between venues or during your spare time, you might enjoy a stroll through the city centre, where you can experience some of the historical flavor of our more than 1000-year old city: Nidaros Cathedral The Trondheim cathedral is Norway’s national religious sanctuary, built over the grave of St. Olav. Work on the cathedral first began in 1070, but the oldest extant parts of the structure date from the middle of the 12th century. An extensive restoration effort began in 1869, while work on the impressive west facade with its 57 statues and rose window began in 1901. The Archbishop's Palace The Archbishop’s Palace is one of the best-preserved building complexes of its kind in Europe and is the oldest secular building in Scandinavia. Construction began in the second half of the 12th century. The building was the Archbishop’s residence until the Reformation in 1537. Bakklandet Coffee shops, small clothing boutiques, antiques stores and more are the hallmark of Bakklandet, a cosy district with distinctive wooden architecture and cobblestone streets. You’ll also get a view from the old city bridge (Gamle Bybro) of the colourful wharf buildings across the Nidelva River on Kjøpmannsgata in Trondheim proper. The Trampe Bicycle Lift Trondheim is the first city in the world with a lift specifically designed for cyclists. The Trampe Bicycle Lift, developed in Trondheim, goes up the hill at Brubakken near the Gamle Bybro (in Bakklandet), and takes you from the bridge and almost all the way up to the Kristiansten Fort. A sign explains how the mechanism works. If you rent a city bike, you can try it yourself! Samfundet The round red building on Elgeseter gate is the Student Association (Samfundet) building, constructed in 1927. It is home to concerts, cultural events, bars, a café and restaurants. Samfundet is owned and run by it’s approximately 10 000 members, whose goal is that the "Samfundet will be the natural meeting place for students in Trondheim”. The location is Vår Frue Kirke. Google Map to location: https://goo.gl/maps/4u7hdjogWEAkETG47 Check out one of their videos on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLcIRTH9FuY Bio from their website: ISÁK has been a hype in Sápmi music for a long time, renowned for its energetic live shows and intense presence. Since their debut in 2017 the trio has experienced an overwhelming response in Norway, and now the «sensation from Sápmi» is finally ready to take on the rest of the world. ISÁK is considered to be a natural successor after Mari Boine, who is known for developing yoik and modernising Sami music for decades. With a new and exciting fusion of traditional yoik, urban synths and a text universe that combines both English and Sami, ISÁK continues to push the limits of Sami music. ISÁK has been described as "the hottest name in Sápmi music" by the influential folk festival Riddu Riddu. They were recently named winner of "NRK Urbi" by a jury consisting of music director Mats Borch Bugge (NRK P3) and Eirik Havelin from NRK Urørt (New music of the week) among others. The band also won «Best New Music" during the Sami Music Awards in 2018. The trio consists of vocalist Ella Marie Haetta Isaksen, producer Daniel Eriksen (Alan Walker, The Wombats) and drummer Aleksander Kostopoulos (Mari Boine, Moddi, Adjagas, Pil & Bue). NB: This concert is part of Olavsfestdagene (read more here https://olavsfest.no/ ), an ongoing festival in Trondheim taking place simultaneously. In case you need to cancel your attendance, please return the ticket to the conference registration desk in order to free up space for other public.
