As the 2nd lord is in the 9th, you will become prosperous, industrious and competent during the latter part of your career. But there may be considerable physical suffering during the early part of your life. This leads you to secretly resent the loss of childhood innocence and pleasures. In later years, only through establishing unquestioned command over others, can you retain the necessary image of superiority and self-respect. You may finally recognize the value of religion and tradition. You will be accepted by your society. You will probably have some kind of inheritance. You will achieve your position through a combination of factors. It is seen that Jupiter conjuncts the second lord.

Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, M. P. Birla Planetarium, Kolkata, India E-mail: [email protected] (Received November 30, 2014; Reviced May 31, 2015; Aaccepted June 30, 2015) ABSTRACT In modern Astronomy the vernal equinoctial (VE) point is taken as the starting point for measuring celestial longitudes. Due to the precession of equinoxes, the above point is receding back along the ecliptic. As a result, the longitudes of fixed stars are increasing every year. In ancient India, the Hindu astronomers did not favour the idea of fixed stars changing their longitudes. In order to stabilize the zodiac, they had taken as the origin a point which is fixed on the ecliptic and as such is quite different from the VE point. This initial point being a fixed one, the longitude of stars measured from this origin remain invariable for all time. There was an epoch in the past when this initial point coincided with the VE point and thus the epoch may be called the zero-year. There is controversy over the determination of the zero-year. The reasons for the choice for the fixed zodiacal system by the Hindu astronomers as well as the epoch of zero-year have been found out on the basis of information available in various astronomical treatises of ancient India written in Sanskrit.

  • Introducing Pushya-Paksha Ayanamsa
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah Om Rishibhyo Namah Om Sree Gurubhyo Namah Introducing Pushya-paksha Ayanamsa P.V.R. Narasimha Rao December 31, 2013 (version 1) Warning : All copyrights are reserved with author. This article cannot be reproduced in any form in part or in full, without express permission from the author. Introduction The issue of ayanamsa has vexed astrologers following the sidereal system for a long time. There are many popular ayanamsas and yet there is no conclusive proof, or evidence otherwise, for any of them. An ayanamsa deduced based on Surya Siddhanta and some philosophical rationalization enabled the author to discover some objective astrological principles. It will be shared with interested scholars and students of astrology in this write-up. Several other write-ups illustrating astrological principles that work nicely with this ayanamsa will be shared at http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/articles in coming weeks, months and years. Tropical vs Sidereal Zodiacs Sun's transit through tropical zodiac brings seasons and is associated with observable phenomena. For example, entry of Sun into tropical Aries is always aligned with spring equinox (when daytime and night time are of equal duration) and Sun's entry to tropical Cancer is always aligned with summer solstice (when daytime duration reaches a maximum). Tropical zodiac is tied to seasons and can be reliably fixed based on observable phenomena. Thus, some cultures started using it in astrology. However, zodiacal signs are supposed to be aligned to nakshatras, which correspond to constellations of stars in the sky. For example, the sign of Aries should contain Aswini nakshatra, Bharani nakshatra and a part of Krittika nakshatra.

It is available as a free eBook and any one can use "Google Search" to download and read. I strongly believe that this research work may bring the long standing confusions and disputes around ayanamsa which is haunting the KP community for more than 45 years, to an end.Upon request from some of the co-members of ‘Astro wonder tamil ‘ astrology group, I took upon the task of explaining the essential features of the said book in tamil languge,in a simple way so that everyone including a kp beginner can easily understand the intricacy of ayanamsa and it’s calculations. It contained 66 postings(75 pages) in all. My work was well received by the tamil members. Encouraged by their overwhelming response, I have now decided to translate the same into English for the benefit of all others.

Narasimha Rao August 26, 2012 Warning : All copyrights are reserved with author. This article cannot be reproduced in any form in part or in full, without express permission from the author. Introduction Maharshi Parasara taught many divisional charts at the beginning of his masterpiece “Brihat Parasara Hora Sastram”. Hora chart is one of those charts. Parasara recommended seeing wealth in that chart. Computation of hora chart has become controversial. This is what Parasara said: sUyeRNÖaeivR;me razaE sme tiÖprItkm!, iptríNÔhaereza deva> sUyRSy kIitRta>. razerx¡ ÉveÏaera taítuiv¡zit> Sm&ta>, me;aid tasa< haera[a< pirv&iÄÖy< Évet!. süryendvorviñame räçau same tadviparétakam| pitaraçcandrahoreçä deväù süryasya kértitäù|| räçerardhaà bhaveddhorä täçcaturviàçatiù småtäù| meñädi täsäà horäëäà parivåttidvayaà bhavet|| Literal meaning : Lords of horas are Sun and Moon in odd signs and reverse in even signs. The deities corresponding to lunar and solar horas are pitris (ancestral manes) and gods. Half of a sign is a hora. There are 24 of those remembered. Starting from Aries, two cycles of horas occur. Current Interpretations View 1: Some scholars interpret Sun and Moon being the lords of horas to mean that planets occupy either Cn or Le in hora chart and no other signs. Weakness : This interpretation ignores the expression “parivritti dwayam”. There are no two cycles starting from Ar here. More fundamentally, a chart that uses only two signs always is not too logical. View 2: Some scholars interpret Sun and Moon being the lords of horas to refer to day strong signs (Sun) and night strong signs (Moon).

  • The Star Zodiac of Antiquity
The Star Zodiac of Antiquity Nick Kollerstrom In the early third century AD, two zodiac systems converged. 1 One was the ancient star-zodiac derived from the constellations, while the other was the tropical zodiac, with its beginning at 0 0 Aries firmly anchored to the Vernal Point, the Sun’s position at the Spring Equinox. It will be argued here that this latter, tropical, system had not, in the third century, come to be accepted by astrologers, but that it was to gradually come into use amongst astrologers as the earlier, sidereal system sank into a deep oblivion, at least in the West, from which it did not re-emerge until rediscovered late in the nineteenth century. It remains far from easy to ascertain which were the primary reference stars which defined the sidereal zodiac’s position, and there may have been different views on this, amongst the several cultures that adopted it. 2 The term ‘sidereal’ derives from the Greek sidera, a star, and the terms ‘sidereal’- and ‘star’- zodiac will here have the same meaning, as alluding to a division of the ecliptic into twelve equal sectors. The term ‘zodiac’ will here be used in the sense of these twelve equal divisions of the ecliptic, and will not allude to the unequal constellations that are, as it were, behind the twelve signs. The convergence of the two celestial wheels, tropical and sidereal, meant that the Vernal Point was moving by precession from the sidereal sign of Aries into Pisces, an event comparable to the expectations of present-day astrologers of its movement into Aquarius.

Primitive societies noticed that the hunting seasons changed along with the periodic change in the night sky. Animals and birds migrated with seasons… Soon primitive agriculture settlements emerged In agricultural societies sowing and other operations depended on climatic changes or the seasons. The seasons arrived with appearance of certain groups of stars and changed with the arrival of others. Proto astronomy in India Just as any civilization, in India too proto-astronomy is seen even at the time of dawn of civilization Lunar calendar sticks from Nicobar Islands. waxing and waning of moon is recorded. • The Mystery of the Zodiac by Ernst Wilhelm
The Mystery of the Zodiac by Ernst Wilhelm www.vedic-astrology.net The path of the Sun, which is known as the ecliptic is divided into twelve divisions of thirty degrees each. The common Sanskrit word for one of these divisions is a Rasi. Rasi means “a group, a quantity, a mass, etc.” In the context of astrology, as well as in mathematics, it refers to the quantity of 30 degrees of an arc, which posses the colorful names of the twelve signs of the Zodiac: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Rasis and the Zodiac are generally considered to be a very simple aspect of astrology, with little room for mystery. However, the world is divided in its interpretation of exactly how to calculate a Rasi. The Greeks, Persians, Egyptians and the modern world of Europe along with its offspring in the Americas consider a Rasi to be a thirty degree arc of the ecliptic as measured from the Vernal Equinox (the position of the Sun as it crosses the equator on the first day of spring). This is known as the Tropical Zodiac. The East Indians, on the other hand, consider a Rasi to likewise be a thirty degree arc of the ecliptic, but as measured from some fixed point of the starry heavens. This is known as the Sidereal Zodiac. This difference in thought is a serious handicap to astrology as a science. While some astrologers have the tolerance to accept both views as there being “many paths,” and “more ways than one to skin a cat,” the astrologer with a critical and scientific mind will appreciate the need for the definitions of astrology to be accurately defined and there being precise and scientific methods of astrological practice which are replicable and worth following as compared to sloppy methods which are no better than imaginative guesswork.
