Campus Construction Updates a. 2101 Commonwealth Avenue‐ McMullen Museum of Art and Conference Space Members Ald. Lisle Baker ‐ Completed in January 2016 and will open to the public with first Ald. Emily Norton exhibit in September 2016 Stephen Bart Ken Lyons b. 2150 Commonwealth Avenue Residence Hall‐490 beds Thomas Keady ‐ Building 305 on IMP Map (see attached) is currently under James Freas construction and the University anticipates it will open in August 2016. c. 2000 Commonwealth Avenue Residence Hall‐540 beds ‐Building 410 is currently being renovated and will open in August 2016 d. Recreation Center, Building 302, will be a new building located on the site of Edmons Hall. The demo of Edmonds Residence Hall begins summer 2016 and site utility work will occur in fall of 2016. Construction of new recreation center will start in spring of 2017 and be completed by December 2018. BC will provide project notification though this project is not in Newton. e. Brighton Athletic Complex‐Baseball, Softball, Recreation Fields Baseball and softball fields are moving to Brighton Campus from current location on Shea Field. 1000 Commonwealth Ave. Newton, MA 02459 f. Athletic Field House will be a new facility to be located on Shea T 617/796‐1120 Field, adjacent to Alumni Stadium. Facility needed for year round F 617/796‐1142 indoor practice by football and other sports. Project not included www.newtonma.gov Preserving the Past Planning for the Future CITY OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS Boston College Neighborhood Council in the approved Institutional Master Plan and would require an amendment to the plan be filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Do we need tracking of off‐campus housing for students? Issues now? Do we need a regulation like Boston? Student accountability report? Under the University Accountability ordinance in Boston, Boston College is required to track and report aggregate numbers of off‐campus students living in Boston and also includes a list of off‐campus student addresses. 2. Leaf Blower Ordinance Boston College has been actively participating in the leaf blower discussions with the City Council and Mayor’s office. The University went on record with a letter to the Programs & Services Committee regarding its concerns with the proposed changes to the noise ordinance and restrictions on the use of leaf blowers 3. Stormwater Fee Structure Want to make sure impervious surfaces allocated to Boston College is accurate and if not, work with the City to correct the record. 4. Employee & Student Parking‐Residential Areas Appears to be growing on Suffolk Road. 5. Updates on Mishkan Tefila No plans at this time beyond utilizing the site for parking. Can’t discuss future plans for the property until after the closing. Council/community interest in preservation. Mayor has expressed this sentiment to Boston College and has been diligent in following‐up. 6. Other Business 8 lights on Hammond Pond Parkway are out and belong to Eversource.
