  • 'Boulevard' Featuring Robin
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE TO PRESENT SPECIAL PREVIEW SCREENING OF ‘BOULEVARD’ FEATURING ROBIN WILLIAMS IN HIS FINAL SCREEN ROLE With director Dito Montiel in person; presented as part of a trio of films starring Robin Williams, also including Awakenings and Popeye Thursday, July 9, 2015 Astoria, New York (June 23, 2015)—While Robin Williams (1951–2014) was best known for his dazzling comic improvisations, his film work showed remarkable range. On Thursday, July 9, Museum of the Moving Image will present a preview screening of Boulevard, featuring Williams in his remarkable final performance, as a quiet man whose life changes dramatically after a charismatic young hustler forces him to rethink his own identity. This special screening in advance of its theatrical release will be followed by a discussion with director (and Astoria, Queens native) Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints) in person. The Museum will precede this program, on June 27, with screenings of two additional films starring Williams in dramatic roles: Robert Altman’s Popeye (1980) and Penny Marshall’s Awakenings (1990). Boulevard opens in New York on Friday, July 10 at the Sunshine Landmark theater. “In his finest roles, Robin Williams was able to convey a deep inner life and a wide range of feelings, and despite his high-energy persona, he could also work beautifully in a lower key,” said Chief Curator David Schwartz. “In Popeye, he beautifully brings a comic-book character to life. Awakenings is one of his most finely tuned dramatic performances. And in Boulevard, which sadly became his final dramatic film, he touchingly and realistically plays a man who finds a new lease on life.” Boulevard follows married but closeted 60-year-old bank employee Nolan (Williams) whose spontaneous turn down an unknown street upends his monotonous life and crumbling marriage.

  • Division Overview
DIVISION OVERVIEW As an integral part of New York City's Department of Transportation, the Division of Bridges has a two-fold mission: to maintain an optimal transportation network by ensuring smooth mobility on the city's bridges, and to ensure the safety of the public. The New York City Department of Transportation’s Division of Bridges is comprised of six major bureaus. The Chief Bridge Officer is responsible for formulating policy and providing executive direction. He oversees all aspects of the design, construction, rehabilitation and reconstruction, maintenance, operation and administration of the 787 bridges (including 5 tunnels), and 61 culverts presently under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT). In addition to broad supervision, the Chief Bridge Officer also provides overall executive and administrative direction for the Division of Bridges, and ensures that all contractors are promptly paid. Reporting to the Chief Bridge Officer, the Community Affairs Unit maintains liaison with elected officials, community boards, community groups, and civic/neighborhood associations. The Unit takes a pro-active approach in addressing design issues and roadway closures and detours by reaching out to communities prior to the onset of construction. This enables the Division to proceed with its rehabilitation program with community input, and allows the Agency and its contractors to co-exist in a more harmonious manner with the community surrounding the project. The Premieres program showcases some of the most highly anticipated films of the coming year. Catch world premieres and the latest work from established directors at the Sundance Film Festival before they create a splash at local theatres. Cedar Rapids DIRECTOR: Miguel Arteta SCREENWRITER: Phil Johnston U.S.A., 2010, 86 min., color Miguel Arteta returns to the Sundance Film Festival with a comedy about a group of Premieres insurance salesmen who use the opportunity PRESENTED BY ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY to attend an annual convention in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a way to escape their doleful existence . like Vegas but with corn. Tim Lippe has been living in a small town his whole life and gets a rude awakening when he arrives in the “giant” metropolis of Cedar Rapids. However, his boyish charm and innocence eventually win over his fellow conventioneers, but he becomes disheartened when he uncovers corporate corruption. When it seems his life—and chances to succeed—are completely topsy-turvy, he finds his own unjaded way to turn things around. Cedar Rapids deftly straddles that line between laughing at and with its subjects thanks to Arteta’s skilled direction and Ed Helms’s hilarious, yet thoughtful, performance.
