  • Return from Exile: How Extreme Metal Culture Found Its Niche with Dethklok and Postnetwork TV
Journal of Popular Music Studies, Volume 27, Issue 2, Pages 163–183 Return from Exile: How Extreme Metal Culture Found Its Niche with Dethklok and Postnetwork TV Joe Tompkins Allegheny College In the premiere episode of Metalocalypse, an original animated series entering its fifth season on the Adult Swim channel,1 300, 000 metalheads travel to the Artic Circle to witness Dethklok, “the world’s greatest cultural force,” as they perform a coffee jingle for the Duncan Hills Coffee Corporation. Despite adverse conditions and a mere single song set list, thousands of fans risk life and limb for the chance to witness the legendary death metal band as they perform a raucous musical ode to the virtues of “ultimate flavor.” As one reporter on the scene observes, “Never before have so many people traveled so far for such a short song.” In a further testament to the band’s outstanding popularity and market value, concertgoers eagerly sign “pain waivers” excusing Dethklok from legal liability in the all too likely event they are somehow “burned, lacerated, eaten alive, poisoned, de-boned, crushed, or hammer-smashed” during the show. Meanwhile, the performance launches the international coffee mogul Duncan Hills to monopoly status, “obliterating” the competition. When asked by news reporters if such an act of corporate sponsorship means that Dethklok is “selling out,” frontman Nathan Explosion growlingly rejoins: “We are here to make coffee metal. We will make everything metal. Blacker than the blackest black . times infinity.” Touting “the biggest

PARLATORE L A W G R O U P 19 November 2019 Office of Inspector General United States Department of Defense, 4800 Mark Center Drive Alexandria, VA 22350-1500 Re: Complaint of Edward R. Gallagher We respectfully submit this complaint on behalf of Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SOC) Edward R. Gallagher, United States Navy. For almost two years, SOC Gallagher has suffered irreparable damage at the hands of multiple individuals and entities within the Department of Defense. We are writing to you directly, because of the breadth of the issues, individuals, and commands involved. This complaint encompasses Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS), Office of the Judge Advocate General (OJAG), both the Chief of Staff and the Southwest Region Legal Services Office (COS RLSO and RLSO SW), Chief of Navy Information (CHINFO) and Naval Special Warfare Command (WARCOM) and its subordinate units. As this complaint encompasses abuse by several different DON components, as well as Intelligence Oversight, restriction and retaliation, we believe that your office is the most appropriate to handle this matter. As you might be aware, SOC Gallagher was the defendant in a recent, highly-publicized court-martial related to his deployment to Mosul, Iraq as the Platoon Chief of Alpha Platoon, SEAL Team 7 (ST-7) from 6 February 2017 – 1 September 2017. Although he was charged with an array of offenses, including Murder and Attempted Murder, he was acquitted of those fabricated charges after a jury trial. The purpose of this complaint is not to re-litigate the case itself, but rather to seek accountability for the severe misconduct committed by the investigators, prosecutors, and the command before, during, and after the trial.

  • The Kentucky Derby the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports
The Kentucky Derby The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports The state of Kentucky is famous for two things: bluegrass and horse racing. Kentucky is called the bluegrass state because of its rich soil and pastures covered in bluegrass. Bluegrass is a kind of grass that horses love to eat. Kentucky has a lot of farms that raise racehorses. The state is also home to one of the most famous horse races—the Kentucky Derby. The racetrack is located in Louisville, Kentucky’s largest city. The race, which takes place each year on the first Saturday in May, is filled with fun events and traditions The Kentucky Derby is often called “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports” because it only takes two minutes for the horses to run around the track. While the race only lasts for two minutes, the festivities that go along with the Kentucky Derby last much longer than that. 2017 Reading Is Fundamental • Content and art created by Simone Ribke The Kentucky Derby The Kentucky Derby Festival begins two weeks before the race with an event called the Thunder Over Louisville. The Thunder is one of the largest (and loudest) fireworks displays in the country. Next is the Great Balloon Race, in which hundreds of hot air balloons take flight in a colorful display. The balloon race is a crowd favorite and brings spectators from miles around. The next event is The Great Steamboat Race. The race takes place along the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky to Jeffersonville, Indiana. While two or three boats usually compete, the race always features the Belle of Louisville, a steamboat built and operated since 1914.

  • LOUISVILLE DOWNTOWN Revitalization Team ACTION PLAN
LOUISVILLE DOWNTOWN Revitalization Team ACTION PLAN 1 FOREWORD This Action Plan showcases the work of a 100+ member team of Louisvillians committed to accelerating downtown Louisville’s recovery following 15 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, including social justice protests, both of which changed our collective lives in downtown. On January 14, 2021, Mayor Greg Fischer announced the creation of the Downtown Revitalization Team at his annual State of the City address, laying out some of the hopes, challenges, and opportunities in the new year ahead. Mayor Fischer called on Louisvillians to reimagine, revitalize, and restore downtown to a thriving and inclusive place for residents, employers, and tourists. The Team is a diverse group of business owners, industry leaders, residents, and community partners who came together in six committees over the course of six months to tackle some of downtown’s most challenging problems. After agreeing to a charter which guided the formation of this Action Plan, committees met at least twice a month, first in small break out groups to discuss issues ranging from public safety, vacant and underutilized office space, tourism, arts & culture, diversity, equity & inclusion, small businesses, downtown residents, and the messaging and perception of downtown. During the second monthly meetings, committee leaders shared the ideas that had emerged during committee discussion, committee goals, and the action steps needed to be taken to move from concept to reality. As the depth of work increased, so did the cross-collaboration across committees, which was anchored by the guidance of the project Steering Committee, a group of twelve dedicated community leaders.

Paramount Collection Airtight To control the air is to rule the world. Nuclear testing has fractured the Earth's crust, releasing poisonous gases into the atmosphere. Breathable air is now an expensive and rare commodity. A few cities have survived by constructing colossal air stacks which reach through the toxic layer to the remaining pocket of precious air above. The air is pumped into a huge underground labyrinth system, where a series of pipes to the surface feed the neighborhoods of the sealed city. It is the Air Force, known as the "tunnel hunters", that polices the system. Professor Randolph Escher has made a breakthrough in a top-secret project, the extraction of oxygen from salt water in quantity enough to return breathable air to the world. Escher is kidnapped by business tycoon Ed Conrad, who hopes to monopolize the secret process and make a fortune selling the air by subscription to the masses. Because Conrad Industries controls the air stacks, not subscribing to his "air service" would mean certain death. When Air Force Team Leader Flyer Lucci is murdered, his son Rat Lucci soon uncovers Conrad's involvement in his father's death and in Escher's kidnapping. Rat must go after Conrad, not only to avenge his father's murder, but to rescue Escher and his secret process as well. The loyalties of Rat's Air Force colleagues are questionable, but Rat has no choice. Alone, if necessary, he must fight for humanity's right to breathe. Title Airtight Genre Action Category TV Movie Format two hours Starring Grayson McCouch, Andrew Farlane, Tasma Walton Directed by Ian Barry Produced by Produced by Airtight Productions Proprietary Ltd.
