Ipswich and East Suffolk Primary Mental Health Workers for Children Ipswich and East Suffolk Primary Mental Health Workers for Children and Young People: Update The PMHW Service should be contacted when a professional requires advice or consultation on the needs of a child or young person who is displaying mild to moderate mental health symptoms with low levels of risk. If the child or young person’s mental health symptoms are more acute and carry greater risks then they need to see their GP, seek urgent medical advice or refer to the Emotional Wellbeing Hub on 03456002090.The Emotional Wellbeing Hub offers telephone advice in addition to being a referral point from 0-25 years PMHWs can be contacted during weekdays .If you know which PMHW you wish to speak to or just want to speak to the Duty worker ,you can ring 01473296110 and ask to speak to the PMHW. Primary Mental Health Workers cover different geographical areas and offer consultations to schools in their areas .We want to support schools in the most effective way. It is relatively small in relation to the county average and consistently over-subscribed, with around one third of its 677 pupils coming from outside the catchment area. Although average attainment on entry exceeds national percentages, some pupils face significant challenges. The school is growing and is in the process of extending its buildings. Academic progress and outcomes for all groups have been significantly above local and national averages for a number of years. Leadership is exceptionally stable; the current headteacher has been in post for five years and is only the fourth since the school’s foundation in 1964. After a lengthy interregnum there is a new incumbent in the parish. In 2016 the school was instrumental in setting up the Mid Suffolk Teaching Schools Alliance (MSTSA), in which the diocese is also a partner. The current director of the teaching school is an assistant headteacher at Debenham. Particular credit goes to Lawrence Beaumont, Emily Ley and Sam Moody who all achieved at least three A* grades. As well as those gaining very high grades, we were equally pleased with the excellent performances from less able students who, whilst maybe not getting A and A* grades, exceeded their target grades and achieved the excellent individual results needed to secure Higher Education places.

Babergh is continuing its work to plan ahead for the district’s long-term future and the first step in this will be the ‘Core Strategy’ part of the Babergh Development Framework (BDF). It is considered that as a starting point for a new Plan, the parameters of future change, development and growth need to be established. ii. It is important to plan for growth and further development to meet future needs of the district, particularly as the Core Strategy will be a long term planning framework. Key questions considered here are growth requirements, the level of housing growth and economic growth to plan for and an outline strategy for how to deliver these. iii. Until recently, future growth targets, particularly those for housing growth, were prescribed in regional level Plans. As these Plans have now been scrapped, there are no given growth targets to use and it is necessary to decide these locally. In planning for the district’s future, a useful sub-division of Babergh can be identified. This is to be used in the BDF and it includes the following 3 main areas: Sudbury / Great Cornard - Western Babergh Hadleigh / Mid Babergh Ipswich Fringe - East Babergh including Shotley peninsula 1. Employment growth in Babergh – determining the scale of growth in employment; plus town centres and tourism 1.1 Babergh is an economically diverse area, with industrial areas at the Ipswich fringe, Sudbury, Hadleigh and Brantham (and other rural areas); traditional retail sectors in the two towns; a high proportion of small businesses; and tourism / leisure based around historic towns / villages and high quality countryside and river estuaries.

This is fantastic news and means an overwhelming majority of residents, businesses and organisations can now enjoy the benefits of faster and more reliable internet speeds. But as a resident and a councillor of a rural ward where some premises still do not enjoy these benefits, I know we have further to go. We already have a contract in place for Openreach to extend fibre broadband coverage to 98% of all Suffolk premises by 2020. But even beyond this, we are committed to reaching 100% Superfast Broadband coverage in Suffolk as quickly as possible.
