The study of the Portuguese marine ichthyofauna has a long historical tradition, rooted back in the 18th Century. Here we present an annotated checklist of the marine fishes from Portuguese waters, including the area encompassed by the proposed extension of the Portuguese continental shelf and the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ). The list is based on historical literature records and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history collections, together with new revisions and occurrences. -

No updated list has been published since the 19th century, although incomplete versions were avail- able in several biodiversity information systems. The list contains 729 species distributed in 185 families. It is a preliminary step for the Atlas of Marine Fishes of France that will be further elaborated within the INPN (the National Inventory of the Natural Heritage: https://inpn.mnhn.fr). Résumé. – Liste des poissons marins de France métropolitaine. Une liste des poissons marins se trouvant dans la Zone Économique Exclusive de France a été constituée à partir de plus de 200 références. Cette liste n’avait pas été mise à jour formellement depuis la fin du 19e siècle, © SFI bien que des versions incomplètes existent dans plusieurs systèmes d’information sur la biodiversité. GENERAL CBD/EBSA/WS/2019/1/4 8 November 2019 ENGLISH ONLY REPORT OF THE REGIONAL WORKSHOP TO FACILITATE THE DESCRIPTION OF ECOLOGICALLY OR BIOLOGICALLY SIGNIFICANT MARINE AREAS IN THE NORTH- EAST ATLANTIC OCEAN1 Stockholm, 22-27 September 2019 INTRODUCTION 1. At its tenth meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity requested the Executive Secretary to work with Parties and other Governments as well as competent organizations and regional initiatives, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), regional seas conventions and action plans, and, where appropriate, regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs) to organize, including the setting of terms of reference, a series of regional workshops, with a primary objective to facilitate the description of ecologically or biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs) through the application of the scientific criteria given in decision IX/20, annex I, as well as other relevant compatible and complementary nationally and intergovernmentally agreed scientific criteria, as well as the scientific guidance on the identification of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, which meet the scientific criteria in annex I to decision IX/20 (see decision X/29, para. 36). 2. Subsequently, at its eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth meetings, the Conference of the Parties reviewed the outcomes of the regional workshops conducted and requested the Executive Secretary to include the summary reports prepared by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, as contained in the annexes to decisions XI/17, XII/22, XIII/12 and 14/9, in the repository of ecologically or biologically significant marine areas, and to transmit the summary reports to the United Nations General Assembly and its relevant processes, as well as to Parties, other Governments and relevant international organizations, in line with the purpose and procedures set out in decisions X/29, XI/17 and XII/22. -

LORENZO (1) & Manuel BISCOITO (4) Abstract. – As a result of six exploratory surveys and several opportunistic catches in the Cape Verde Islands from a few metres to about 1000 m of depth, a list of 66 species of teleost fishes is given, six of which are first records from the archipelago: Gnathophis mystax (Congridae), Nezumia africana, Nezumia duodecim (Macrou- ridae), Ectreposebastes imus (Scorpaenidae), Paraliparis sp. (Liparidae) and Lappanella fasciata (Labridae). Additionally, data on six poorly-known species is also given: Myroconger compressus (Myrocongridae), Myrich- thys pardalis, Phaenomonas longissima (Ophichthidae), Sphagemacrurus hirundo (Macrouridae), Gadella imberbis and Physiculus cyanostrophus (Moridae).
