In December 2006, WCC announced that it had signed contracts with the Charter Hall Group to purchase the 99-year lease- hold of the Depot for what has been reported to be in excess of $51 million. WCC’s General Manager, John Owen, says redevelopment of the site will bol- ster economic activity in the industrial area, and allow the council to use the lease income on other projects such as Artarmon Library and the Chatswood Youth Centre. No doubt, the deal also offers certainty for the building of the new $150 million Civic Place in Chatswood, plans for which have been dogged by questions over funding. Urban consolidation – Its impact on sense of place. ABSTRACT Australia is one of the most urbanised societies in the world and the urban processes that have led to Sydney’s formation and growth have been dynamic. Population growth has placed pressure upon transport, health and education services, land availability and housing costs. Urban consolidation has been imposed by the State Government to limit urban sprawl, to ensure that all councils contribute to the supply of medium density housing, and to develop more space-efficient residential land use practices. This thesis examines the impact of urban consolidation on selected communities within middle-ring suburbs in metropolitan Sydney. It is argued that whilst urban consolidation is a positive force for change, a key element – the socio-cultural – is not being given due consideration. This thesis considers whether urban consolidation as expressed in the Transit Oriented Development approach has compromised the sense of place in some communities. The research findings indicate there is a risk that the lack of effective planning measures for better managing urban consolidation at the local level may lead to dramatic changes in the social-cultural character of suburbs. -

Hornsby Maintenance Depot The first set entered service in July 1986 operating out of Mortdale Maintenance Depot some were delivered to Hornsby Maintenance Depot, but by December 1988 all were operating out of Punchbowl Maintenance Depot as sets K40-K51. C sets run. T2 Inner West, Leppington line. Hornsby railway station is a major railway station at the junction between the North Shore and Northern railway lines of the CityRail network in Sydney, Australia. It serves the commercial and residential area of Hornsby. Hornsby maintenance depot is situated to the north of the station. Hornsby station was upgraded in the 1990s to Easy Access for the mobility impaired with the provision of lifts between the concourse and the platforms. History Edit. The line was extended to the Sydney Harbour foreshore at Milsons Point in 1893. Transport between this original Milsons Point station and central Sydney was by ferry boat. Hornsby Maintenance Depot is a Sydney Trains train depot in the northern Sydney suburb of Asquith. The depot opened in 1928 and was one of four electric train depots built under the Bradfield electrification plan, the other depots being at Mortdale, Flemington and Punchbowl (later closed).[1].
