For this reason in the years 2008–2010 a study was initiated on the phenology of 8 dominant Pimplinae species in apple orchards and on their edges, which included shrubberies and roadside avenues of trees and shrubs. Slightly higher numbers of Pimplinae were recorded in orchards compared to their edges. At strong correlation was observed between the counts of Pimplinae in both habitats. The preference of selec- tion of orchards by Pimplinae was observed in the autumn period, while no such preference was found in the spring or summer months. Analyses showed that flowering plants in the orchard edges such asTilia cordata, Symphoricarpos albus, Cirsium arvense and Galium aparine may have attracted Pimplinae to the orchards. -

A n ik in & Ir in a V. S h m yto v a received 30.1.2004 Abstract: 47 species of the casebearers (Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae) are recorded from the centre of the European part of Russia. The first investigation in the Lepidoptera from the centre of the European part of Russia was made about 200 years ago. Inspite of it the fauna of Coleophoridae of this territory still has been almost completely unknown until present time. In the course of our study, collections were made from 1984 to 1999 in some parts of Kaluga, Smolensk, Oryel provinces (I. V. Shmytova leg.) and Tula province (L. V. Bolshakov, C. A. Rjabov, A. F. Lakomov leg.). This territory is mainly composed of forest as well as forest-steppe zones (fig. 1). Kaluga, Smolensk and some regions of Tula provinces are typical for the occurence of coniferous (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), broad-leaved (Quercus robur L., Ulmus L, Tilia cordata Mill., Fraxinus excel sior L.) and small-leaved forests (Betula L., Populus tremula L., Alnus Mill., Salix L.). Pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) are spread here on the sandy lands. The elements of steppe flora are met mainly in Tula and Oryel provinces, but along the valleys of rivers they penetrate to the north and north-west. It consists of species of Festuca L., Koeleria Pers., Stipa L., Phleum L., Flelictitrichon Bess., Poa L., Ranunculus L, Galium L., Anem one L., Salvia L. -

Prior © 2020 1 Sun Rising NBG Moth Surveys 2020 Introduction After the atrocious weather experienced going back to the last couple of months of 2019 it seems miraculous that six visits were made to Sun Rising during 2020. Throw in a frustrating global virus and it is even more so! Most were arranged at very short notice to take advantage of whatever decent weather was on offer. There were a couple of breezy nights, but they were mild enough to make them worthwhile and all were productive with additions of new species to further lengthen the site list. Visit 1 – 20th May, 2020 The weather finally relented towards the end of May and after all that had gone on earlier in the year it was decided that Martin Kennard and I should use this as a “test” night to see if we could carry on moth recording safely. Neither of us thought there should be any problem with that as by the very nature of moth recording we are widely separated. -

Many thanks to the 41 members who completed the questionnaire, the results of which are summarised below. The questions were compiled by Martin Harvey, Martin Albertini of BIG and Laura Fennell of BMERC. With hindsight some of the questions could have been made clearer and some of the answers were rather hard to analyse. However, the responses have been interesting and useful. Which invertebrate groups do you feel confident about identifying? Unsurprisingly butterflies and moths were the clear front-runners, but for many other groups members are happy identifying at least some species. -

Butterfly Conservation South-Central England Regional Action Plan This action plan was produced in response to the Action for Butterflies project funded by WWF, EN, SNH and CCW by Dr Andy Barker, Mike Fuller & Bill Shreeves August 2000 Registered Office of Butterfly Conservation: Manor Yard, East Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 5QP. Executive Summary This document sets out the 'Action Plan' for butterflies, moths and their habitats in South- Central England (Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight & Wiltshire), for the period 2000- 2010. It has been produced by the three Branches of Butterfly Conservation within the region, in consultation with various other governmental and non-governmental organisations. Some of the aims and objectives will undoubtedly be achieved during this period, but some of the more fundamental challenges may well take much longer, and will probably continue for several decades. The main conservation priorities identified for the region are as follows: a) Species Protection ! To arrest the decline of all butterfly and moth species in South-Central region, with special emphasis on the 15 high priority and 6 medium priority butterfly species and the 37 high priority and 96 medium priority macro-moths. ! To seek opportunities to extend breeding areas, and connectivity of breeding areas, of high and medium priority butterflies and moths. b) Surveys, Monitoring & Research ! To undertake ecological research on those species for which existing knowledge is inadequate. Aim to publish findings of research. ! To continue the high level of butterfly transect monitoring, and to develop a programme of survey work and monitoring for the high and medium priority moths. -

Entomologiske Meddelelser Indeks for Bind 1-67 (1887-1999) Entomologisk Forening København 2000 FORORD Tidsskriftet "Entomologiske Meddelelser" - Entomologisk Forenings medlemsblad - blev grundlagt i 1887, og er således det ældste danske entomologiske tidsskrift, som stadig udgives. Det har siden sin start haft til formål at udbrede kendskabet til entomologien i almindelighed og dansk entomologi i særdeleshed. De første 5 bind udkom i årene 1887-1896 og omhandlede primært artikler af særlig relevans for dansk entomologi. Herefter skiftede det format, såvel rent fysisk som (mere gradvis) indholdsmæssigt, og fik efterhånden et mere internationalt tilsnit med en vis andel af bl.a. tysk- og engelsksprogede artikler. I forbindelse med overgangen til det nye format, benævntes tidsskriftet nu som "Entomologiske Meddelelser, 2. Række" og nummereringen af de enkelte bind startede forfra. Efter at have praktiseret denne nummerering i nogle år, droppedes dog betegnelsen "2. Række", og man vendte tilbage til at nummerere bindene fortløbende fra det først udkomne bind. Efter at tidsskriftet op igennem 1900-tallet havde fået et stigende indhold af artikler med internationalt sigte, blev det fra bind 39 (1971) besluttet at koncentrere indholdet til primært dansksprogede artikler af særlig relevans for den danske fauna. Samtidig overgik de enkelte bind til at udgøre årgange i stedet for, som tidligere, at være flerårige. "Entomologiske Meddelelser" har siden sin start bragt hen mod 1600 originale, videnskabelige artikler eller mindre meddelelser, næsten 500 boganmeldelser, over 100 biografier eller nekrologer over primært danske entomologer, samt enkelte meddelelser af anden slags. For at lette overskueligheden over den meget betydelige mængde af information disse publikationer rummer, har Entomologisk Forenings bestyrelse fundet tiden moden til at sammenstille et indeks over indholdet af samtlige udkomne numre af "Entomologiske Meddelser" til og med bind 67 (årgang 1999). -
Corylus Avellana
Corylus avellana Corylus avellana, the common hazel, is a species of hazel native to Europe and western Asia, from the British Isles south to Iberia, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, north to central Scandinavia, and east to the central Ural Mountains, the Caucasus, and northwestern Iran. It is an important component of the hedgerows that were the traditional field boundaries in lowland England. The wood was traditionally grown as coppice, the poles cut being used for wattle-and-daub building and agricultural fencing. Common hazel is cultivated for its nuts. The name hazelnut applies to the nuts of any of the species of the genus Corylus. This hazelnut or cob nut, the kernel of the seed, is edible and used raw or roasted, or ground into a paste. The cob is round, compared with the longer filbert nut. Description Common hazel is typically a shrub reaching 3–8 m tall, but can reach 15 m. The leaves are deciduous, rounded, 6–12 cm long and across, softly hairy on both surfaces, and with a double-serrate margin. The flowers are produced very early in spring, before the leaves, and are monoecious with single-sex wind-pollinated catkins. Male catkins are pale yellow and 5–12 cm long, while female catkins are very small and largely concealed in the buds with only the bright red 1–3 mm long styles visible. The fruit is a nut, produced in clusters of one to five together, each nut held in a short leafy involucre ("husk") which encloses about three quarters of the nut. The nut is roughly spherical to oval, 15–20 mm long and 12–20 mm broad (larger, up to 25 mm long, in some cultivated selections), yellow-brown with a pale scar at the base. -

NINA Temahefte gis vanligvis en populærvitenskapelig form med mer vekt på illustrasjoner enn NINA Rapport. NINA Fakta Faktaarkene har som mål å gjøre NINAs forskningsresultater raskt og enkelt tilgjengelig for et større publikum. Faktaarkene gir en kort framstilling av noen av våre viktigste forskningstema. Annen publisering I tillegg til rapporteringen i NINAs egne serier publiserer instituttets ansatte en stor del av sine vitenskapelige resultater i internasjonale journaler, populærfaglige bøker og tidsskrifter. Wales Moth List (Provisional) A list of all the moth species known to have been recorded in Wales, including species that have been recorded rarely or once only, and which may not have resident breeding populations in Wales. Includes records that may be historic only and species that are now thought to be extinct in Wales (e.g. Conformist). Compiled by Butterfly Conservation Wales using lists supplied by County Moth Recorders. Complete with records up to and including 2019 (2019 new records marked as such). Covers the 13 Welsh vice-counties: Monmouthshire (VC35), Glamorgan (VC41), Breconshire (VC42), Radnorshire (VC43), Carmarthenshire (VC44), Pembrokeshire (VC45), Cardiganshire (VC46), Montgomeryshire (VC47), Merionethshire (VC48), Caernarvonshire (VC49), Denbighshire (VC50), Flintshire (VC51) & Anglesey (VC52). U = Unsupported. These are moth records which are not supported by a full record and hence may be missing from the county datasets, despite being present on MBGBI maps. List order follows Agassiz, Beavan and Heckford (ABH) Checklist of the Lepidoptera of the British Isles (2013) and including recent changes to the list. Abstract: Hungarian Alucitidae are revised and a list of localities is provided. Biology, habitats and comments on the limits of the distribution are given. 8 species and 2 genera are known from Hungary. Provisional grid map of the distribution area of the all species in Hungary. This list is used as a guide for the provisional dis- tribution maps of the species. In the material available now, Alucita cancellata (Meyrick, 1908) and A. palo- dactyla Zeller, 1847 are mentioned new for Hungary. Keywords: Lepidoptera, Alucitidae, new records, faunistic survey, biology, distribution maps, Hungary. Introduction The present study aims to gather all the information available on the distribution and biology of Alucitidae in Hungary in order to make a starting point for a further paper on the dynamics of distribution limits. The information was mainly derived from lepidop- terological collections and faunistic studies. The data assembled relate to the time span from 1896 (ABA fi -AI GNER et al. 1896) to 2010 (PASTORÁL I S 2010). According to ABA fi - AI GNER et al. (1896) “Omnium qui apud nos lepidopterist studuerunt primus fuit A. J. Scopoli, professor academiae Selmecziensis, qui in altera parte saeculi prioris, annis 1766–1776 studii causa Lepidoptera colligebat…”.
