Northamptonshire Record Office GB0154 KCMC Northamptonshire Record Office This catalogue was digitised by The National Archives as part of the National Register of Archives digitisation project NRA 22754 The National Archives NORTHAMPTONSHIRE RECORD OFFICE KCMC KETTERING AND CORBY METHODIST CIRCUIT INTRODUCTION The circuit consists of the former Kettering Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist Circuits. The Wesleyan Circuit consisted in 1878 of chapels at Kettering, Desborough, Pytchley, Rothwell, Cottingham, Corby and Pipwell. In 1881 Burton Latimer was added and from 1887 the Silver Street and Rockingham Road chapels in Kettering were shown separately, though both already existed before this. The Silver Street chapel was replaced by the Central chapel in School Lane. There are entries relating to Stanion from 1894. The Primitive Methodist station was formed out of the Wellingborough Station in 1901 and included Kettering, Rushton and Pytchley. The original chapel in Kettering was in Grange Road, erected in 1883, but this was replaced by the Bath Road chapel in 1906. With the Methodist union of 1932, the two circuits continued as the Central and Bath Road Circuits, the two Pytchley chapels combining in the former Wesleyan chapel. In 1940 the circuits were united but in 1954 Corby formed a circuit of its own, joined in 1964 by Stanion, Cottingham and Great Easton. With the expansion of Corby a new church was planned at Kingswood, a church house opening in I968 and the church itself built in 197L NORTHAMPTONSHIRE RECORD OFFICE KCMC KETTERING AND CORBY METHODIST CIRCUIT (Accessions 1972/113, 1973/198, 1977/403, 1978/195) KETTERING WESLEYAN CIRCUIT (continued as Kettering Central Circuit and incorporating Bath Road Circuit from 1940) 1/1-77 Circuit plans (incomplete) 1953-1972 2/1-14 Circuit plans 1972-1975 3 Quarterly meetings minute book 1878-1894 4 Quarterly meetings minute book 1894-1907 5 Quarterly meetings minute book 1907-1916 6 Quarterly meetings minute book 1934-1940 7 Quarterly meetings and Finance 1950-1960 and Invitation Committee minute book 8 Quarterly meetings, Finance and I96O-I969 Invitation Committee and Circuit Manses Trust minute book 9 Local preachers minute book 1856-1873 10 Local preachers minute book 1874-1890 11 Local preachers minute book 1890-1914 12 Local preachers minute book 1914-1955 13 Methodist Missionary Society 1936-1945 circuit account book 14 - Methodist Missionary Society 1945-1955 circuit account book 15 Church register for Burton Latimer 1900-1956 1927, Cottingham c.1925-37, Desborough c.1900-56, Rothwell c.1900-54, Rushton 1946 NORTHAMPTONSHIRE RECORD OFFICE KCMC KETTERING AND CORBY METHODIST CIRCUIT KETTERING WESLEYAN CIRCUIT (cont.) 16 (a) Letters about insurance policies 1942 16 (b) Insurance policy on local preachers 1965 KETTERING PRIMITIVE METHODIST CIRCUIT (continued as Bath Road Circuit) 17/1-12 Annual schedules: station/circuit 1901-1914 report form; Sunday Schools; Temperance, Band of Hope and Christian Endeavour Societies; chapels/property 18/1-19 Annual schedules, as above 1914-1933 18/17 contains also 3 sets of answers to questions for candidates for the preachers plan 19 Quarterly meetings minute book 1901-1910 Quarterly meetings minute book 1918-1930 20 (a) Quarterly meetings minute book 1930-1940 20 (b) Quarter day account book 1901-1921 21 Roll books 1918-1938 22/1-15 CORBY CIRCUIT 23 (a) Circuit plan 1975 23 (b) Quarterly meetings minute book 1964- 1969 2k Quarterly meetings minute book 1969-1974 25 Agendas and accounts (from 23) 1965- 1970 CHAPELS Burton Latimer (Wesleyan) 26 Trustees minute book 1889-1913 At back: accounts 1904-12, including lease of chapel to County Council as temporary school NORTHAMPTONSHIRE RECORD OFFICE KCMC KETTERING AND CORBY METHODIST CIRCUIT CHAPELS (cont.) / No. 5 • \YEF.lTY :\\ ·n. \\LL • 't F\L\.\1 .. ~nqitnt and MODERN .. large or small. Fine building is synonymous · with Robert Marriott Ltd., a member of the Robert Marriott Group, famous for quality building since 1890. In the past 80 years Marriotts have established a reputation for meticulous craftsmanship on the largest and small est scales. Whether it is a £7,000,000 housing contract near Bletchley, a new head quarters for Buckinghamshire County Council at Aylesbury (right) or restor ation and alterations to Easton Maudit Church (left) Marriotts have the experi ence, the expertise and the men to carry out work of the most exacting standards and to a strict schedule. In the last century Marriotts made a name for itself by the skill of its crafts men employed on restoring buildings of great historical importance. A re markable t ri bute to the firm's founder, the late Mr. Robert Marriott was paid in 1948 by Sir Albert Richardson, later President of the Royal Academy, when he said: " He was a master builder of the calibre of the Grimbolds and other famous country men. He spared no pains and placed ultimate good before financial gain. No mean craftsman him self, he demanded similar excellence from his helpers." Three-quarters of a century later Marriotts' highly specialised Special Projects Division displays the same inherent skills in the same delicate work on buildings throughout the Midlands. To date Hatfield House, Long Melford Hall in Suffolk, the Branch Library at Earls Barton, the restoration of Castle Cottage at Higham Ferrers, Fisons Ltd., Cambridge, Greens Norton School, Woburn Abbey restorations and the- Falcon Inn, Castle Ashby, all bear witness to the craftsmanship of Marriotts.
