This context appraisal, based on fieldwork and a study of the existing literature, expands on the particular features of the towns of Northampton, Daventry and Towcester and a number of surrounding villages. The section begins with an analysis of West Northamptonshire at the national and regional levels. It covers the geographical, historic, socio-economic and spatial features that shaped its development and led to the current conditions. This is followed by a review of each town, examining the typology of movement; the historic development; and the streetscape, townscape and architecture of the various areas within each town. Together these elements embody the local distinctiveness of Northampton, Daventry and Towcester and their surrounding villages. With the rise of rural house prices in recent years and the lack of available properties, local people are being forced to move away from their community in order to find housing they can afford. Daventry District has a growing population, to add to this the structure and size of households is also changing. When new households are formed or circumstances change, people may find their home unsuitable and it is therefore important that there is an adequate amount of housing to accommodate their needs. The provision of affordable housing is high on Daventry District Council’s agenda, as part of our vision to build a better district it is prioritised under the objective: “Healthy, Safe and Strong Communities and Individuals”. To this end the Council has been undertaking a rolling programme of affordable housing provision, which is based on robust evidence of housing need and local information – provided by Housing Needs Surveys. This report summarises the findings of the Housing Needs Survey in Holdenby Parish, undertaken in March/April 2012. Strategic and Planning Context Daventry District Council has a number of policies and strategies to help deliver housing in both planning policy and housing strategy terms. -

Oundle Church of England Primary School Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Sport and Physical Activity Since the introduction of the sports premium we have greatly increased our participation in competitive activities across all levels of the school games. This increase has seen a wider range and increased number of pupils engaged in sport and physical activity throughout the year. Our pupils are more engaged in class, display incredible sportsmanship, compassion and teamwork on and off the field, as well being healthier physically and emotionally. Additional programmes for pupils less inclined towards competitive sport on offer at Oundle Primary School include yoga, mindfulness, change 4 life sports clubs (Including Cookery and healthy Eating) and pupil leadership schemes. We are in regular contact with our local partners at Northamptonshire Sport to continue developing our provision, as well as working with colleagues at local amateur and professional sports clubs to ensure a high quality provision in as many sports as possible. We have also used our relationships to inspire our pupils through visits to Peterborough United (Y2) and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (Y4).
