WORSHIP RESOURCE ~ WEEK 6 Sermon Title ~ IN Jesus’ Attitude Scripture ~ Philippians 2:3-8 (Jesus models humility) Desired Outcome ~ Participants will seek to build relationships following Jesus’ model of humility and service. Reflection Question ~What challenges you about Jesus’ model of humble service? Worship Promo for Week 6 Our attitude can have a powerful impact – either positively or negatively. We strive to have the same attitude of humility and self-less service as Christ. How is adopting the mindset of Christ changing who we include? How is it inspiring us to live differently? How is it changing who we invite? Where do we need an attitude adjustment? Sermon Building Key Points • Psalm 133 describes “how good and pleasant it is when ‘kindred’ live together in unity.” In the Psalmist’s time, kindred meant those who could trace their ancestry to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Through Christ we have a broader view and an understanding that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. • In Philippians 2 we hear the apostle Paul urging the Philippians to place the welfare of others before their own and to follow Jesus as the ultimate example of that. • If we seek to have the mindset and attitude of Christ we seek to relate to others through humble service and humility. • In A Year With God, Richard Foster says, “Service is less a task or series of tasks than an attitude of obedience to God.” How does our attitude shift when we consider every task as an opportunity to serve God and others? • How does adopting the mindset of Christ change who we include in conversation, around the table at a meal, in worship, in a group? • John Maxwell says, “Change your thinking and you change your beliefs. Change your beliefs and you change your feelings. Change your feelings and you change your behavior. Change your behavior and you change your performance. Change your performance and you change your results. Change your results and you change your life.” • It’s through the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to make the change to which God calls us. That’s how we have the mindset of Christ. • What opportunities can you identify this week to express humility and humble service in your household, at work, at school, through the church, in the community? Prayer Dear God, help me to follow your example of humble service. Amen.
