Warbirds Over Wanaka Is on during Easter (30 March – 1 April 2018) which is the following weekend after our AGM. Do consider attending this magnificent entertainment event after our AGM.

Burt Munro Has been shifted to 8 – 11 February 2018 because of bad weather often occurring in November. Many Ulyssians have attended this event in previous years each November. Because the Burt Munro is only 6 weeks prior to our AGM, we have a solution for riders from further north who would not want two long southern rides in consecutive months.

The solution is; You could ride down and attend the Burt Munro, then ride to Dunedin where Ulysses Otago can store your motorbike in a secure lockup. Then you could catch a cheap flight home, before flying back before 23 March for our AGM, then continue your ride home, to Wanaka or wherever your travels take you. We will co-ordinate your pickups and drop-offs with you. If you wish to utilise this storage option, or have any general inquiries, please email [email protected], or ring Mike (re the lockup) on 0274-853906.

Don’t you know the Brecon’s is where the SAS do their selections?” He said. Apparently, he had gone on a BMW course and had come back with a stuffed A/C joint after his GS1200 had dumped him. So I was somewhat apprehensive when I made my way to Merthyr Tydfil where HAC is located in a small industrial estate. The centre occupies a couple of lock up garages on the ground floor and has a fitting out room and reception area on the top floor. When I arrived, there were a dozen aspirants collected in the car park where there were six DCT Africa Twins and six standard models all ready for us. The DCT has the auto shift, which is a novel experience. I have completed several of the ACC sponsored “Ride for Life” programs and have excellent training in road skills but there appeared to be no one offering neophyte Adventure Bike owners a program for off road riding. And then I saw a YouTube video showing the Honda Adventure Centre in Wales. This is operated by Dave Thorpe, an ex- Motocross GP World Champion. After a succession of pleasant emails with the friendly folk at HAC, my credit card was dunned 500 British Pesos (Brexit has been great for Kiwi Travelers), and I was booked in for a two-day course in August.
