Rise up, ye saints of God, have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength, To serve the King of Kings.

Rise up, ye saints of God, His Kingdom tarries long, Bring in the day of brotherhood, And end the night of wrong.

Rise up, ye saints of God, The Church for you doth wait. Her strength unequal to her task; Rise up and make her great. Lift high the Cross of Christ, Tread where His feet have trod, As brothers of the Son of Man, Rise up, ye saints of God.

Rise up, ye saints of God.

AFFIRMATION OF Sarah Patlan The Apostles’ Creed (UMH 888)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our , who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucifed, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SCRIPTURE Dionne Freund, Summer Intern Acts 2:1-13 (NRSV)

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it flled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fre, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were flled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others sneered and said, “They are flled with new wine.”

The word of God for the people of God Thanks be to God.

SERMON Rev. Yang “Native Tongue”

3 of the PEOPLE Vincent & Sossiena Sanders, Mekdim & Rediate

Living God, you have created all that is. Send forth your Spirit to renew and restore us.

Grant that, gathered and directed by your Spirit, we may confess Christ as Lord and combine our diverse gifts with a singular passion to continue his mission in this world.

Pour your Spirit to the ends of the earth, that your children may return from exile as citizens of your commonwealth, and our divisions may be healed by your words of love and righteousness.

May the gift of your presence fnd voice in our lives, that our babbling may be transformed into discernment, and the fickering of many tongues light an unquenchable fre of compassion and justice.

Give us yourself this day, God in Community, Holy in One, even as we pray as we are taught:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and and the glory forever. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN Ashton Denzel Jones, Rev. Gilbert & Dr. Barnett “Every Time I Feel the Spirit” Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray. Every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray.

Upon the mountain when my Lord spoke; out of God’s mouth came fre and smoke. Looked around me, it looked so fne; Till I asked my Lord if all was mine

4 The Jordan River is chilly and cold; it chills the body but not the soul. There ain't but one train that’s on this track; it runs to heaven and runs right back.
