WHAT'S HAPPENING AT RICHLAND LIBRARY Monday, February 24 - Friday, February 28

Get ready to learn, have some fun and experience what Richland Library is all about. During the last fiscal year, more than 4,000 programs were available to our customers, introducing them to our many resources and connecting them with experts in our community. Here is a look at some of the featured events, planned for the coming week:

Crafternoon: Celebrating Mae Jemison Date: February 24, 2020 Time: 3 - 4:30 PM Location: Richland Library Blythewood Age Recommendation: Teens; Adults Celebrate Black History Month with us. During this afternoon of crafting, we will recognize the accomplishments of Mae Jemison, the first black woman to travel to space. Stitch a constellation to make your own tote bag. Black History Month Movie: Love Jones Date: February 24, 2020 Time: 6 - 8 PM Location: Richland Library Main Age Recommendation: Adults Celebrate African Americans in cinema. Creative Entrepreneurship: Financial Management 101 Date: February 24, 2020 Time: 6:30 - 8 PM Location: Richland Library North Main Age Recommendation: Adults Getting a proper handle on your business and personal finances is crucial to success. Good financial management allows you to properly forecast the health of your business. To learn more, click here. This program is open to the public, and it counts toward the core curriculum requirements for the library's Creative Entrepreneurship Master Classes.

Children's Mardi Gras Party Date: February 25, 2020 Time: 3:30 - 5 PM Location: Richland Library Northeast Age Recommendation: Children; Families Share stories, songs and crafts. Enjoy King Cake and more while we learn about Mardi Gras.

Poetry Workshop with Al Black Date: February 25, 2020 Time: 7 - 8:30 PM Location: Richland Library Southeast Age Recommendation: Teens; Adults Join local poet Al Black for the second part of our poetry workshop. Aspiring poets will return to share their poems, and Black will provide constructive feedback.

2020 Census Hiring Event Date: February 26, 2020 Time: 1 - 5 PM Location: Richland Library Edgewood Age Recommendation: Adults The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count. Earn extra income while helping your community.

Now Showing: Black Panther Date: February 26, 2020 Time: 5:30 - 8 PM Location: Richland Library Northeast Age Recommendation: Children; Families Celebrate Black History Month with a special screening of this record-breaking, award- winning film with a nearly all black cast. Digging into Books Date: February 26, 2020 Time: 6:30 - 7:30 PM Location: Richland Library Edgewood Age Recommendation: Children The SC Department of Natural Resources will lead us in a book excavation project. Attendees will dig in sand boxes and learn excavation techniques to uncover artifacts. After all of the artifacts are discovered, the group must decide which popular children's book the artifacts are from.

Back down Memory Lane Date: February 27, 2020 Time: 11 AM - 2 PM Location: Richland Library Eastover Age Recommendation: Adults Celebrate Black History Month by joining renowned storyteller Nancy Tolson for a fun stroll of the past with stories, music, games and more.

Salty: Teen Cooking Class Date: February 27, 2020 Time: 5:30 - 7 PM Location: Richland Library Northeast Age Recommendation: Teens February 27th is National Strawberry Day, and we will celebrate with some quick and easy strawberry recipes. Sugar-free options are provided. On the menu: Quick Strawberry Mousse; Decorated Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Waivers must be signed by parent or guardian. Lights Camera Action: Glory Date: February 27, 2020 Time: 6:30 - 8:30 PM Location: Richland Library Southeast Age Recommendation: Adults This film is a tribute to the Army's first black regiment, formed during the Civil War.
