Hi, I’m Salman Daji, the Students’ Union Deputy President. I work with students for activities, campaigns and get feedback about any improvements we can make to the college.

“The main focus of the students’ union is to make sure that students’ voices are heard; we’re run by students for students to make changes happen.

Part of my role as Deputy President is to help students who have ideas or need support and want someone to talk to. I have drop-in sessions, and there’s also a professional team that can help with issues such as mental health.

Some students need support with student funds (I’ve received that help myself). Whether it’s travel, meal vouchers or anything else, all the staff here are very supportive, friendly and want to help students."

Among the rewarded students was Georgia Moore, who came to the college’s 14+ Apprenticeship Academy after being bullied at her school. She was acknowledged for her excellent work ethic, sensible influence on fellow students and regaining her confidence.

Of many deserving nominees, childcare student, Tanaya Benoni won the Principal’s Award for Overcoming Adversity. In 2017, Tanaya was diagnosed with cancer and began chemotherapy but despite this, she relentlessly persevered with her education. She is now in remission and on track for achieving her diploma.

Hosted by Capital FM’s Adam and JoJo, who added a bit of ‘sparkle and pizzazz’, the evening was a heart-warming night of student celebration, with entertainment provided by our Creative Arts students and more.
