O God, our Father, mercifully look upon your people who come to you and grant through the intercession of St. Rosalie, who turned away from earthly delights to the joys of contemplation, that we be delivered from the illness that has spread across the world. St. Rosalie, patroness of our parish, we pray to God for all people. Through your powerful prayers, may we obtain eternal salvation. We pray, too, that you whose aid was invoked by the people of Palermo in a time of pestilence may intercede today for us who turn to you in need. O glorious virgin, our patroness, pray, too, that we may always follow your example of faith and devotion. Amen.

April 14, 2021 The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) of Ellicott City, MD announced the finalists for their 2021 “Excellence in Publishing” awards. A total of 95 finalists were named in 14 categories. Of particular interest is the self-published Lifted High in Spirit, A Story of Saint Catherine of Siena by B. C. Doscher in the ACP Biography category. “This is a story of Saint Catherine for a general interest audience. She was a remarkable person living in times not unlike our own. She survived the Bubonic Plague which claimed between 60 and 80 percent of the population of Siena, Italy. She was a precocious child that had a vision of Christ at an early age and understood that to be her vocational guidepost. She specifically convinced Pope Gregory IX to return the papacy from Avignon, France to Rome. She lived through labor violence, insurrections and a return of the Plague.” relates Doscher. The ACP awards will announce first, second and third-place winners in June. ______Resources: ACP: www.catholicpublishers.org To purchase a copy of Lifted High in Spirit go to: https://www.amazon.com/Lifted-High-Spirit Laudato Si POPE FRANCIS SPEAKS ON THE CARE OF GOD’S CREATION Last week Pope Francis described the problem and the criticality of policy and political leadership in addressing it. The Pope’s words today emphasize the authenticity of this problem and how our individual actions make a difference. Reality of the Problem and the Necessity to Act “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.” “Obstructionist attitudes, even on the part of the believers, can range from denial of the problem to indifference, nonchalant resignation or blind confidence in technical solutions. We require a new and universal solidarity.” Your Action Matters “Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home.” “Truly much can be done.” “Reducing Greenhouse gasses requires honesty, courage and responsibility, above all on the part of those countries which are more powerful and pollute the most.” ~ Committee for the Common Good

Final plans are being made to hold the annual Senior Citizens Luncheon, sponsored by the Prep 8 class at OLH on Friday, April 30. The event will be unique: virtual entertainment via YouTube with lunch prepared by the students and available either by curb-side pick-up or delivered to centralized venues. Seniors are invited to submit their names and addresses to the school before April 25 in order to receive formal details and invitations. To plan effectively, we ask that interested seniors call the school at 631- 283-9140. There is no charge for this event. The administration of OLH is deeply grateful to members of our supporting parishes for the support received with the challenge grant to benefit the school, Tomorrow’s Hope and the Morningstar Initiative. The goal of one hundred thousand dollars was exceeded, with a total of $101,250! Thank you to all for the support! The annual Ladies Luncheon will also have a new look this year. The event, scheduled for Sunday, May 23, will feature a specially prepared gourmet lunch, ready for pick-up or delivery, as well as an on-line and live auction, a special wine pull and 50/50 raffle. Please consult the website at https://olh.org/ladies- luncheon-2021 and get involved.
