Evidence – ISO 14001, continual improvement, achieved various local and national awards Delivering - Mission International Delivering – Mission Local Biodiversity Mission examples - Local Biodiversity • In 2011 we bred and released 379 threatened Fen Raft Spiders and 29 Sand Lizards • The zoo site has several areas of biological importance and rare species such as the Great Crested Newt, Lesser Silver Water Beetle and Bee Orchid • We engage with and encourage local community involvement in conservation through a huge range of events Plant Conservation Projects Holder of National Collection of Pleurothallid orchids Holder of the National Collections of three cacti genera: Co-ordination of the Black Poplar Populus nigra ssp. betulifolia Biodiversity Action plan for Cheshire Cultivation of the locally threatened plant species : Wild Cotoneaster Cotoneaster cambricus, Limestone Woundwort Stachys alpina & Common Juniper Juniperus communis Significant plant focused interpretation throughout the zoo including signs, interactives & presenters. Delivering – Mission Plant Conservation In-situ plant conservation projects in the Philippines and Mauritius; this includes the protection of forest areas in the Philippines and the setting up of a field gene bank and the re-introduction of endemic plants in Mauritius . A suitable area was selected for a field genebank on Ile Aux Aigrettes. Propagation material was sourced from focal plants and once mature enough the plants were transplanted.
