Seniors’ ACT scores listed among state’s highest marks Teagan Jacobs

Every year, kids all across the state walk in to take the ACT. None of them expect to be number one in the conference, let alone the state. But the Yutan seniors did just that last year. For many years, it was not required to take the ACT. Last year that was changed. Instead of all juniors taking the NeSA, they all had to take the ACT to be compared to other Nebraska students. “I consider this a true test of how our ju- niors last year, seniors this year, really rank stacked up against everybody,” said Tim McNamara, principal at Yutan High School. On the ACT, the highest possible score is 36. Yutan’s best score last year was a 33. Yutan’s average composite class score was 23.21. It’s time seniors move to the next chapter in life By Shelby Fenner

As the end of the school year slowly ap- proaches and we wish for it to come faster, I stop and think maybe we should be enjoying these last few months rather than wishing them away. Although senior year brings excitement for our future, we tend to lose focus on living in the moment. I personally am ready to move on but have found it rather difficult to let things go. Running that last 3.2 miles with Yutan across my chest, playing that last home game in our gym and even being at that last dance at homecoming have been difficult. But it’s something that was going to hap- pen eventually, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. I’ve had many memories throughout the years here, and it can be 2017-18 hard to accept the fact that some things I will never do again. Chieftain I’ve attended Yutan for seven years of my life, and in those seven years, I’ve learned a lot about myself and other people. Times Staff I’ve learned that sometimes things don’t always go your way, and some things you Julia Kennedy have to work harder at to achieve, such as Shelby Fenner earning that A on a hard test or earning more playing time in a sport.
