NBA Court Realty Dan Cervone (New York University), Luke Bornn (Simon Fraser University), and Kirk Goldsberry (University of Texas) The Court is a Real Estate Market Throughout a basketball possession, teams fight to control valuable court space. For example, - being near the basket or in the corner 3 areas leads to high-value shots - having the ball at the top of the arc keeps many pass options open - being open and undefended anywhere on the court eases ball movement and minimizes turnovers. Using only patterns of ball movement such as passes, we are able to infer which regions of the court teams value most, and quantify the effects of controlling such regions. This leads to new spatial characterizations of team/player strategy, and value quantifications of positioning and spacing. For instance, we can compare the value of the space the ballcarrier controls with the value of the space his teammates control to better understand how different lineups manage on- and off-ball resources. Valuing property investments based on exchanges: When players pass the ball on offense, the team exchanges property investments. The patterns of these transactions allow us to infer the value of each player's real estate investment porfolio. Salary Dispersion and Team Performance in the National Basketball Association By Robert Pierce A Thesis Submitted to Department of Economics Skidmore College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the B.A Degree Thesis Advisor: Monica Das Name: Robert Pierce Signature: Robert Pierce Abstract This paper explores the relationship between salary dispersion in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and team performance. Team performance will be measured by regular season win totals as well as playoff performance. I hypothesize that teams with higher salary dispersion typically perform better because of superstars in the NBA. Superstars are more effective in basketball than in any other sport because of rules inherent to the game. They also create high salary dispersions on their respective teams, and being superstars, they contribute largely to team success. This study will encompass all 30 NBA teams over the past 20 NBA seasons, 1995-96 to 2015-16.

It is approximately 1.8 times larger than the U.S. Despite its size, much of the country lacks proper soils and climates (either too cold or too dry) for agriculture. Mount El'brus, located in Russia, is Europe's tallest peak.* Long ago, two missionaries, Cyril and Methodius, took Christianity to the Slavic people who settled Russia. These people didn’t have a written language, so these early missionaries created an alphabet for them. It was named for Cyril and the Russian language is based on this Cyrillian alphabet. Russia Religion 1 Russian Orthodox 15-20%, Muslim 10-15%, other Christian 2% (2006 estimate). Note: estimates are of practicing worshipers; Russia has large populations of non- practicing believers and non-believers, a legacy of over seven decades of Soviet rule. Sports 2 Among the most popular sports in Russia are soccer and ice hockey. Basketball is also popular.
