Our charity shops raise much needed income to help Age UK Bury run services and activities for older people living in Bury. We are looking for people who can communicate well with a wide range of people; work as member of a team and be supportive and understanding of the needs of older people. Experience of working in a retail or customer-focused setting is beneficial for this role.

We are seeking volunteers to work mornings and afternoons throughout the week including Saturdays and Sundays. We also need volunteers who can help out to cover for holidays and emergencies.

Community Reporters in Bury

Do you want to help the community you live in? Or share your skills and learn some new ones?

We are looking for individual aged 50 and over who would like to get involved in a community campaign to inspire people to believe they needn't settle for a certain way of living in later life - by showcasing people from across who have overcome challenges to keep active and social.

You will be supported to become community reporters in a range of roles that suit you.

By joining the campaign you will become a part of our monthly meetings at our 'newsroom' in Greater Manchester, and here you will be able to access workshops and one to one support to build your skills in the types of media you are interested in.We expect community reporters to become a volunteer for the project until March 2020. Travel expenses will be covered.

Activity Mentors

Activity Mentors support disabled people to be active and participate in their local communities.

As an Activity Mentor you will be matched to a disabled person, and together try something new. This could be anything that interests the person you’re working with – currently clients are accessing cookery classes, community allotments, Tai Chi, boxing and maths classes plus much more. You will support them seeking their choices and accessing the provision.

We don’t want clients to be limited to activities specifically for disabled people. We aim to open up a world of activities.

The purpose of this project is to increase independence and support first steps. Once the person you’ve been working with is ready to attend an activity without your support, we’ll match you with someone else.

This role offers an opportunity to

• Make a difference to disabled people’s independence and social inclusion • Gain experience of providing community based support • Gain experience of working for a UK Charity • Become part of a disabled people’s organisation who are experts in promoting the rights and responsibilities disabled people.

Contact Leisure at Bury Independent Living Development Volunteering Opportunities

CONTACT ran for over 25 years as a small independent charity. Since 2013 it has become part of Bury Independent Living Development (BuryILD), which is also a well-established Bury charity, set up by families with sons and daughters with learning difficulties.

BuryILD is registered with the Care Quality Commission as a registered provider of care and support services. It provides a full range of support services to people with learning difficulties, varying from 24-hour support to enable a person to live in their own home, to just a few hours a week. Contact is looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, to take part in a variety of leisure activities in and around Bury, alongside our members with learning difficulties.

BIG in Mental Health ‘Recovering Together’

BIG in Mental Health is a charity run by people with lived experience of mental distress.We support adults aged 18 who self-identify as needing support for mental and emotional distress. We offer support groups in the community and on the psychiatric ward in Bury. Our support is led by peers who have an understanding of what living with mental health or addiction means and can provide compassionate mutual support to others in recovery. Bury Cricket Club Volunteering Opportunities

Bury CC is a friendly and welcoming club. It has 5 junior teams from U9s to U18s and also runs All Stars for 5 to 9 year olds. It also has three senior teams playing competitive cricket in the GMCL together with a friendly side that plays at weekends and midweek.

Bury CC is a Sport Club Mark accredited club and in 2013 we self-funded the building of a new cricket pavilion and in 2015 replaced the drainage on the cricket outfield.

We have a group of dedicated volunteers and are looking for further help welcoming support in whatever form it took. Examples could include keeping the surrounds tidy / light gardening to mowing the outfield, manning the cricket pavilion counter on a match day or match evening, helping us improve our social media offering, umpiring, scoring or coaching, accessing and writing grants, serving on the committee (providing a different outlook / experience to the club). We would provide any volunteers with support and where appropriate would offer them training or the opportunity to gain qualifications.

Bury Diabetic Support Group

We are a self help support group for anyone affected by Diabetes. The group has over 900 members and offers: support; self help; representation on local and national committees; information; education; advice and informal contact with specialists who attend the support group's meetings.

Event Volunteer We are seeking an Event Volunteer to help us organise and set up our meetings to support those affected by diabetes.

Our meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month (except Nov, Jan, July and Aug) at 7.30 pm in the Lancashire Fusiliers room of the Town Hall. In addition, workshops are held for important topics that affect anyone affected by Diabetes.

Bury Red Door

Lead Volunteer for our Red Door Growing Project

Bury Red Door is a small project located in Bury town centre, which is part of the social welfare charity Caritas Diocese of Salford.

We help rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerable adults including those with drug and alcohol dependencies. We also provide much needed support in finding temporary and permanent accommodation, and help our clients to access and appeal benefits, and offer help with other services. We also provide a friendly drop in centre where beneficiaries can have a shower, wash their clothes and socialise with other people.

We have an opportunity for someone to support our yard-growing project. The role includes showing our visitors how to grow fruit and vegetables to enable them to understand and get involved in looking after the yard garden, which can then supply fresh produce for our visitors to take home.

As a volunteer you will join a dedicated team, have a good understanding of growing fruit and vegetables whist also being someone who is able to act as a mentor in a friendly, kind, empathetic and non-judgemental manner.

The role requires maturity, an ability to engage with vulnerable adults, working alongside staff and volunteers to deliver a service in line with agreed procedures and systems.

You will need to be over 18 years of age and we will arrange for you to have a DBS check before you start to volunteer with us.

Customer Services Volunteer

We need a Customer Services Volunteer to help us on Saturdays from 12.00 - 3.30 pm.

Your duties will include some reception work, answering the telephone and taking bookings, helping our customers when needed and moving scooters around the premises. On-site training will be provided.

Child and Family Connect Bury

A child’s world falls apart when their family separates; contact with a parent, siblings or other family members helps put it together again. Our Bury centre is open on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month between 10.30 and 12.30 and provides a space for children from separated families to meet with parents they no longer live with.

Volunteer

We rely on volunteers to operate our centre and are looking for people who can volunteer for a few hours on a Saturday morning or whenever you can to help many children to remain in direct contact with their parent, siblings or grandparents.

Creative Learning Centre

The Creative Living Centre Charity provides people with a holistic approach to health and well being in a safe and supportive place where people can set their own goals and work at their own pace towards self-empowerment and recovery.

We support adults experiencing mental or emotional distress, many with a diagnosed mental health condition or other long term health need. We use a holistic person-centered approach involving a range of classes and activities including art, drama, walking group, yoga, tai chi, beginners guitar, self help and confidence building groups. We also have 1:1 support, counselling and therapies such as massage, reiki and reflexology. Our members really value the warm, welcoming

Volunteer Cooks and Kitchen helpers

We require committed individuals who will enjoy working as part of our friendly team to improve the lives of our members. The work here can be challenging but very rewarding and you will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience in a range of areas should you wish to.

We are looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen, preparing and cooking meals and cleaning the kitchen. Plus if you volunteer for 4 hours you will get a free meal!

To volunteer in the kitchen you need to have an interest in food and food preparation a food hygiene certificate is desirable but not essential.

Ideally volunteers will be able to give a minimum of one 4 hour session per week although there is flexibility around this.

Volunteer Handy Person We are looking for volunteers with a friendly attitude and an interest in cleaning and/or repairs.

Volunteers should have the ability to work as part of a team of people from different backgrounds and possess a commitment to equal opportunities, treating all individuals with respect and be reliable.

Dumers Lane Community Centre is run by the community for the community. It is a place where people of all ages from the neighbourhood can come together, socialise, be creative, source information, swop books, have fun and take part in learning, work or leisure.

Volunteer Finance Worker/Trustee

We are looking for a volunteer to assist us with our finance work.The role is flexible and involves working with our Chair, Trustees and enthusiastic volunteer groups to support our financial responsibilities.

You will need good numeracy skills and preferably a background in finance or accounting roles. You should also be able to demonstrate accuracy of work, attention to detail, an ability to be able to communicate effectively, both written and oral meet deadlines.

If you are interested in the Trustee role you will need to be able to produce and explain monthly financial reports for the Board of Trustees and organise and prepare the organisations Annual Accounts.

The Enterprise Centre 'Thoughts become reality make sure yours are good ones'

The Enterprise Centre is a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee and also operates as Naturally Enterprising from our new purpose built outdoor education centre which is situated in the heart of The Kirklees Valley Trail.

Naturally Enterprising is an initiative that combines enterprise training and personal development with the natural environment. Our purpose is to build capacity and develop confidence for those in need and we do this by encouraging individuals to access the many benefits of nature whilst contributing to the development of local community green spaces.

Greenmount Scouts (7th Bury & District) Volunteering Opportunities

Greenmount Scouts are looking for adults to support their Beaver sections which run Monday (5pm to 6pm), Thursday and Friday (5:30pm to 6:30PM) at the church hall in Greenmount village. This role offers many opportunities, including offering you a way to use your skills for the benefit of the general public, meeting new people and, in some instances, improving your career prospects.

We are a friendly team and would like to recruit volunteers who enjoy working as part of a team but who are also able to be task focused and willing to take on some responsibility for the day-to- day activities required of their project.

Healthwatch Bury are looking for voluntary support to help them develop and deliver its programme of ‘Enter and View’ Social Care Services. The role involves gaining the views of patients and those delivering the service, to produce an independent and unbiased snapshot of how the service delivered meets the needs of the patients or service users. Enter and view is not an inspection, but an opportunity for patients and service users to share their views and opinions on the service.

Volunteers are sought who are:

• Great communicators • Reliable and punctual • Conscientious • Open to new ideas but equally willing to input and suggest ideas of their own. • Looking for the chance to gain a quality work experience • Willing to match the effort/time investment of Healthwatch Bury to achieve a desired goal • Trustworthy and fair with an open minded approach.

The time commitment in terms of hours, will vary depending on the schedule of visits. But is likely to amount to no more than 4-6 hours per month.

The workload is likely to involve working closely with the Healthwatch team prior to a visit, to establish objectives, meet any other volunteers involved and decide the operational process. It may also include writing up reports to log the findings. Most of the work will be collaborative in nature, working either with Healthwatch team members or other volunteers.

Some of the work will be carried out at Healthwatch Bury’s offices (which are located on the Rock in the centre of Bury) but visits will take place at the premises of the service provider.

Helping Yourself to Wellbeing Volunteer Facilitator Course

This is a 4 day course designed to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills and tools to deliver the HY2W course to the general public to improve their health and wellbeing. It aims to provide them with the confidence and motivation to set realistic goals for making changes to their lifestyle.

The course runs for 4 full days, the first 2 days being the course itself to gain knowledge of the course content. Day 3 is designed around giving you the knowledge and skills to deal with groups and finally day 4 is an informal assessment day.

This course is a friendly, informal and informative. Previous participants of the course have given positive feedback and case studies which in their own words have changed their lives and the lives of others. Once qualified, you will be able to deliver the course following the structure below. Seven weeks, 2 hours a week sessions covering the following topics:

To assist and guide visitors to the Islamic Centre on parking their cars ensuring they keep away from restricted parking areas.

Duties:

· Provide a friendly welcome to everyone

· Guide car drivers to parking areas nearby

· Maintain vigilance for suspicious activities and behaviour

· Report suspicious activities or serious incidents to the Chair or any committee member

Volunteers from all walks of life are the best:- mums, dads, grandparents aunties, uncles, who have a heart and a love for working alongside young children and their families and/ or the over 50s. Roles available: ‘ Front of House’ Volunteers: setting up the venue for our various sessions and front desk staff to welcome and assist visitors.

Serving Volunteers: to work alongside the families, being a friendly face, serving refreshments, preparing craft activities and interacting during singing and story times.

Kitchen/Café Volunteers: to serve customers, making drinks/ food preparation. There will be a variety of times, days and sessions to get involved in, and full training and support will be given.

Stewards and First Aiders for World Blackpudding Championships in Ramsbottom

We need a number of volunteers for Sunday 8th September, from 9am through to 5pm to help set up, steward and provide first aid for our fringe event in St Pauls Church Gardens, Ramsbottom on the day of the World Black Pudding Championships. We'll be looking after an area with about 18 stalls with various forms of live entertainment which is expected to attract around 500 visitors.

You do not need to have any experience but good interpersonal skills would help, and first-aid training and current certification would be really really useful.Minimum age is 18.

We're a fun group of people, and it's a great, high profile event. We are also a great team of people who have a number of other events on the horizon so please come and join us.

We are looking for someone to Join Sue Ryder's friendly shop team in Bury Town Centre as a volunteer Stockroom Assistant to help us sort, identify and keep track of the wonderful stock in our shop.

We are well supported with great donations and new goods coming in every day. This means we have a lot to do to get things ready for sale and on the shop floor. Stockroom volunteers help us to sort each bag or box and decide what to sell, hang clothes, and clean up and sticker bric-a-brac, maybe even build new flat pack furniture.

You need to be the type of person who is

• well organised and good at task based activities • friendly and able to work as part of a team • can use your own initiative • is happy to roll your sleeves up and support the shop where needed

Our befrienders support women who have been affected by domestic abuse or homelessness, offering companionship, community support and help to reduce isolation and maintain their independence. Being a befriender can be very rewarding and tasks will vary depending on the needs of the client.

Volunteer Women’s Group Facilitator’s help to deliver group sessions for our service users. This is a really important role as it helps our service users to gain new life skills, confidence and supports theirs journey to independence
