INLEIDING Wat geloven wij eigenlijk? SEVEN PRINCIPLES , de zeven uitgangspunten die gegroeid zijn uit het werk van verschillende mensen die we in de volgende pagina's zullen tegenkomen: Robert Dale Owen, Emma Hardinge Britten ◄, en, in een iets andere vorm, Arthur Findlay. Deze uitgangspunten zijn die van de SNU in Engeland, de grootste Spiritualistische organisatie, en die van Spiritualisten in Nederland. In het kort zijn ze dit: 1. Het Vaderschap van God 2. De Broederschap van mensen 3. De gemeenschap der geesten en de zending van engelen 4. Het voortbestaan van de menselijke ziel 5. Persoonlijke verantwoordelijkheid 6. Compensatie en vergelding voor alle goede en slechte daden op aarde begaan 7. Eeuwige groei open voor iedere menselijke ziel. De Spiritualistische Associatie van Groot Brittannië heeft een variatie: vertaald: 1. Wij geloven in een oneindige intelligentie die alles bestuurt. 2. Wij geloven in een persoonlijke identiteit, en alle bewuste vormen van leven overleven de fysieke dood. 3. Wij geloven dat er voortdurend bestaan en eeuwige vooruitgang is voor allen in het Hiernamaals. 4. Wij geloven in gemeenschap met de geestelijke gebieden. 5. Wij geloven dat de hele mensheid spiritueel verbonden is. 6. Wij geloven dat in het Hiernamaals, allen verantwoording af moeten leggen voor hun daden en een oordeel over zichzelf zullen uitspreken. 7. Wij geloven dat iedereen verantwoordelijk is voor de manier waarop ze hun aardse leven leiden. Arthur Findlay schreef een variatie: 1. Het universum wordt bestuurd door 'Mind' , meestal God genoemd. Alles wat we aanvoelen is 'Mind' die zichzelf in een of andere vorm uitdrukt. 2. Het bestaan en de identiteit van het individu gaat door na de verandering die wij 'dood' noemen. 3. Communicatie, onder de juiste condities, vindt plaats tussen ons hier op Aarde en de bewoners van de geestelijke wereld, waarheen wij gaan na onze dood. 4. Ons gedrag moet worden geleid door de gouden regel die het eerst werd geformuleerd door Confucius: aan anderen doen wat we zouden willen dat aan onszelf gedaan werd. 5. Ieder individu is verantwoordelijk voor zichzelf, en we kunnen onze misstappen niet op anderen afschuiven. 7. Het pad van vooruitgang is nooit afgesloten en er is geen eind aan de progressie van het individu. 3 Het is duidelijk dat er zowel overeenkomsten als variaties zijn op het thema. Hieronder de 'Nine Principles' die door Spiritualisten in Amerika worden gevolgd. De 'Negen Principes' van de USA, zoals ze geformuleerd zijn door de National Spiritualist Association of Churches: 1. Wij geloven in een Oneindige Intelligentie 2. Wij geloven dat de fenomenen van de Natuur, zowel fysiek als spiritueel, de expressie zijn van die Oneindige Intelligentie. 3. Wij bevestigen dat een juist begrip van die expressie, en leven in overeenstemming daarmee, de ware religie vormt. 4. Wij bevestigen dat het bestaan en de persoonlijke identiteit van het individu na de verandering die wij dood noemen doorgaat. 5. Wij bevestigen dat communicatie met de zg, doden een feit is, wetenschappelijk bewezen door de fenomenen van het Spiritualisme. 6. Wij geloven dat de hoogste morele waarheid is gevat in de Gouden Regel: "Doe aan anderen zoals je wilt dat ze aan jou doen. " 7. Wij bevestigen de morele verantwoordelijkheid van individuen, en dat we ons eigen geluk of ongeluk maken wanneer we gehoorzamen of niet gehoorzamen aan de fysieke en spirituele wetten van de Natuur. 8. Wij bevestigen dat de toegang naar verandering nooit gesloten is voor welke ziel dan ook, hier en hierna. 9. Wij bevestigen dat de gaven van Profetie en Healing Goddelijke attributen zijn die door Mediumschap worden bewezen. In korte vorm zien de 9 Principes er zo uit: 1. Wij geloven in God 2. Wij geloven dat God zich uitdrukt in de hele Natuur 3. Ware religies leven in gehoorzaamheid aan de Wetten van de Natuur. 4. We sterven nooit 5. Spiritualisme bewijst dat we met mensen in de Geestenwereld kunnen praten. 6. Wees vriendelijk, doe goed, en anderen zullen hetzelfde doen. 7. We brengen ongeluk over onszelf door de fouten die we maken, en we zullen gelukkig zijn als we de wetten van het leven gehoorzamen. 8. Iedere dat is een nieuw begin. 9. Profetie en Healing zijn uitdrukkingen van God. De Zeven Principes zoals ze in gebruik zijn in Canada: 1. Een Goddelijke Bron, herkend als God 2. De eenheid van alles wat leeft. 3. Gemeenschap met en leiding uit de geestenwereld. 4. De onsterfelijke ziel 5. Persoonlijke verantwoordelijkheid voor iedere gedachte en handeling. 6. Beloning en gevolgen voor alle daden, volgens de natuurwetten van God. 7. Vooruitgang open voor iedere ziel En dan nu de mensen en wat ze te zeggen hebben....met daartussen diverse relevante verhalen. 4 3.Emmanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was een Zweedse filosoof en mysticus. Zijn werk stond in hoog aanzien bij veel vooraanstaande filosofen en schrijvers en inspireerde tallozen. In 1741 had hij een mystieke openbaring. Sindsdien was hij in staat astrale reizen te maken. Hij had visioenen en ontleende zijn esoterische kennis aan dromen en openbaringen. Swedenborg ontwikkelde zijn eigen theologische visie op Jezus. Het is duidelijk dat Swedenborg mediamieke gaven had, en we kunnen hem beschouwen als een belangrijke voorloper van het Spiritualisme. Hij schreef een aantal theologische en spirituele boeken, waarvan 'Hemel en Hel' (1758) waarschijnlijk de bekendste is.

The summary account below omits one of the most striking cases, that through Grace Cooke1 but raises the question – who was the mystery Scottish lady who impressed Lady Conan Doyle? —~§~— Across the Gulf – by Maurice Barbanell, Psychic Press, 1940, pages 49-62: A FEW minutes after he died, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle announced that fact in a dramatic fashion to one of his daughters. Mary Conan Doyle was in her father’s psychic library and bookshop in Victoria, South West London, when, to her surprise, the charwoman became entranced. Sir Arthur spoke through her lips and told Mary that he had passed on a few minutes ago. This was her first news of his death.

This genesis needs some little explanation. I had written certain studies with no particular ulterior object save to gain myself, and to pass on to others, a clear view of what seemed to me to be important episodes in the modern spiritual development of the human race. These included the chapters on Swedenborg, on Irving, on A. J. Davis, on the Hydesville incident, on the history of the Fox sisters, on the Eddys and on the life of D. D. Home. These were all done before it was suggested to my mind that I had already gone some distance in doing a fuller history of the Spiritualistic movement than had hitherto seen the light - a history which would have the advantage of being written from the inside and with intimate personal knowledge of those factors which are characteristic of this modern development. It is indeed curious that this movement, which many of us regard as the most important in the history of the world since the Christ episode, has never had a historian from those who were within it, and who had large personal experience of its development.

    July 2012] Further Facets of Indridi Indridason’s Mediumship FURTHER FACETS OF INDRIDI INDRIDASON’S MEDIUMSHIP, INCLUDING ‘TRANSCENDENTAL’ MUSIC, DIRECT SPEECH, XENOGLOSSY AND LIGHT PHENOMENA by ERLENDUR HARALDSSON ABSTRACT The Experimental Society kept a protocol of most séances with Indridi Indridason in the form of Minute Books. They had been lost for over half a century when two of them were rediscovered recently, along with additional pages. This paper describes some phenomena that were not dealt with in the 1989 SPR Proceedings by Gissur- arson and Haraldsson, or that can be described more fully after examination of the Minute Books. An earlier paper (Haraldsson, 2011) dealt with one particular case in Indridason’s mediumship, namely the description of the fire in Copenhagen and the identity of the trance-personality Emil Jensen. The present paper reveals in greater detail how the séances were conducted and deals with the main trance- personalities of Indridason’s mediumship, and the phenomena with which each of them was particularly involved. Particular attention is paid to reports of ‘transcend- ental’ music, foreign direct communicators, including voices of two professional singers (one male and one female) who sang loudly at the same time, and cases of xenoglossy and direct speech. This paper also reports on checks carried out into claimed memories, the reported ‘disappearance’ of the medium’s left arm, light phenomena, the appearance of Emil Jensen in a pillar of light, and the appearance of a monster-like animal. Contemporary criticism of Indridason’s mediumship is reviewed and conclusions drawn as to the relevance of his remarkable phenomena to the question of survival.

A list of files giving volume number, file number, subject and date of each file is available in the King finding aid, number 502. It should be noted that there is also much information on Mackenzie King and spiritualism in the King Diaries Series (MG 26 J13). It might be useful to look at the correspondence and séance records in the Spiritualism Series in conjunction with the diary entries for the same dates. W.L.M. Hypnotherapy (coming soon) Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses relaxation, concentration, and intense attention to achieve a heightened state of consciousness or mindfulness. This form of therapy uses the mind to reduce or alleviate a variety of issues, such as psychological distress, phobias, and unhealthy habits. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique which has been very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post-traumatic stress and other emotional problems. EMDR therapy involves the client placing attention to a negative event and an image, belief, and body feeling related to this events. While the client focuses on the event, the therapist will begin sets of side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or taps. The client is guided to notice what comes to mind after each set. As a result of this therapy, clients experience shifts in insight or changes in images, feelings, or beliefs regarding the event. The sets of eye movements, sounds, or taps are repeated until the event becomes less disturbing. Stress Management Stress is an automatic physical, mental and emotional response to a challenging event. It’s a normal part of everyone’s life.

By N. Riley Heagerty It is August, the year is 1911. A large audience has filled to capacity the auditorium at the world famous Chesterfield Spiritualist Camp in the State of Indiana, America. They have come to witness a demonstration of psychic power, one of the most unique and marvelous in the entire world. A select committee has arranged beforehand that upon entering the building, all have been given a numbered ticket, the stub of which is torn off and put into a large vat to be thoroughly mixed up; later on, one stub will be randomly drawn from the collection. Now, after a close examination by the committee to see that there are no markings or paint of any kind, or signs of chemical treatment, a large plain canvas is placed on an easel in the centre of the stage. The spirit mediums who will demonstrate the phenomena now enter the auditorium, they are sisters and appear to be about 35 to 40 years of age. Both take their seats on the rostrum, one situated on each side of the easel and clearly four to five feet from it; they will never touch the canvas throughout the entire demonstration. A member of the committee now reaches in and selects from the vat one ticket stub and reads the number aloud to the audience; it belongs to a Mrs. Alice Alford.
