I appreciate his vast knowledge and skill in many areas (e.g., signal processing, Carnatic music, ethics and interaction with participants). He provided me with direction, technical support and became more of a friend, than a supervisor. A very special thanks goes out to my Prof. Dr. Meinard M¨uller, without whose motivation and encouragement, I would not have considered a graduate career in music signal analysis research. Prof. Dr. Meinard M¨ulleris the one professor/teacher who truly made a difference in my life. He was always there to give his valuable and inspiring ideas during my thesis which motivated me to think like a researcher. -

No: 040-64646686, 9912441137 www.analogeducation.in ADILABAD The district derives its name from Adilabad, its headquarters town which was named after the ruler of Bijapur, “Ali Adil Shah”. The district was for long not a homogenius unit and its component parts were ruled at different periods by nasties namely, the Mauryas,Staavahanas, Vakatakas,Chaludyasof Badami, Rashtrakututs, Chalukyas of Kalyani, Mughals,Bhosle Rajes of Nagpur and Asaf Jahis, besides the Gond Rajas of Sirpur and Chanda.Originally this was not full fledged district but a sub-district named Sirpur-Tandur which was created in A.D. 1872 with Edlabad(Adilabad), Rajura and Sirpur as its consistuents talukas. In 1905 the status of this sub-district was raised to that of an independent district with head quarters at Adilabad. In 2006 the Indian government named Adilabad one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640) It is one of the districts in Telangana currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). Konda Lakshman Bapuji popularly known as Telangana Gandhi (27 September 1915 - 21 September 2012) was an Indian freedom fighter who participated in theTelangana Rebellion. He died on 21 September 2012 at his residence (Jala Dhrushyam) in Hyderabad. O’Shea, Chair This dissertation presents a critical examination of dance and multiple movements across the Coromandel in a pivotal period: the long eighteenth century. On the eve of British colonialism, this period was one of profound political and economic shifts; new princely states and ruling elite defined themselves in the wake of Mughal expansion and decline, weakening Nayak states in the south, the emergence of several European trading companies as political stakeholders and a series of fiscal crises. In the midst of this rapidly changing landscape, new performance paradigms emerged defined by hybrid repertoires, focus on structure and contingent relationships to space and place – giving rise to what we understand today as classical south Indian dance. Far from stable or isolated tradition fixed in space and place, I argue that dance as choreographic ii practice, theorization and representation were central to the negotiation of changing geopolitics, urban milieus and individual mobility. -
The Mughal Empire – Baburnama “The Untouchables” Powerpoint Notes Sections 27-28: * Babur Founded the Mughal Empire, Also Called the Timurid State
HUMA 2440 term 1 exam review Week 1 Section 1: India – An Overview * „Local‟ name: Bharat * Gained independence in 1947 * Capital is New Delhi * Official languages Hindi and English Section 2: Chronology and Maps * Gangetic Valley 1000-500 BC Maurya Empire under Ashoka 268-233 BC India 0-300 AD Gupta Empire 320-500 Early Middle Ages 900-1200 Late Middle Ages 1206-1526 Mughal Empire British Penetration of India 1750-1860 Republic of India 1947 Powerpoint notes Varna – caste (colour). Primarily Hindu societal concept Class /= caste. Is a set of social relations within a system of production (financial). Caste, conversely, is something you‟re born into. * as caste barriers are breaking down in modern India, class barriers are becoming more prominent. * first mention of caste differences are in the Rig Veda, which may have referred to main divisions of ancient Aryan society * the Rig Veda mentions a creation myth “Hymn of the Primeval Man” which refers to the creation of the universe and the division of man into four groups of body parts (below under section 3) * outsiders consider caste to the be the defining aspect of indian society. Megasthenes and Alberuni both focus on that when they analyze the culture. Jati or jat – subcaste. these have distinct names like “Gaud Saraswat Brahmins”. Dalit – untouchable Dvija – twice-born: part-way through a non-sudra person‟s life, they go through a „spiritual birth‟ which is their „second birth‟, called the upanayana, where the initiated then wear a sacred thread Hierarchy – different types of ordered ranks systems. i.e. gender hierarchy is male > female, sexual hierarchy is heterosexual > homosexual * rank can be inherited at birth (from father) * one‟s birth/rebirth is based on one‟s deeds in a past life Endogamy – marriage within own caste Commensality – can only eat with jati members Jatidharma and varna-dharma – one‟s duty in a caste or subcaste (lower castes must serve higher castes) Jajmani system – patron-client system of land owning and service/artisan castes. -
