It also includes an explanation of the purpose and format of NRW’s “Regulation 37 advice”. This latest version of the Regulation 37 package has been revised to improve accessibility of conservation objectives and to update the legislative context. The intent of the conservation objectives and of the advice on operations which may cause deterioration or disturbance to the features is the same as in previous versions. The Conservation Objectives are now more accessible but there has been no change in what is considered to represent Favourable Conservation Status. Table 1 lists the features for the site and provides a direct link to the Conservation Objectives but it is important that all sections are read in full. This report is divided into a series of sections as follows: Section 1 is a brief introduction to the legal context for Regulation 37 advice. Section 2 explains in more detail the legal basis and practical requirements for setting conservation objectives for Natura 2000 sites, as understood by NRW. It also explains the legal and practical basis of the operations advice. Section 3 contains a brief overall description of Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau Special Area of Conservation (SAC), current operations taking place with the SAC and information on modifications as a result of human activity. This section also includes a brief description of the three Special Protection Areas that fall wholly or partly within the SAC boundary. Section 4 describes habitats and species for which the Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau Special Area of Conservation has been selected as a SAC as well as why they are considered important. The information is presented using the same headings as those used to describe the conservation objectives so that useful underpinning information in support of these objectives can easily be referenced. Section 5 contains NRW's advice as to the conservation objectives (Regulation 37(3)(a)) for the features for which the site has been as a SAC. This includes a vision statement which is a descriptive overview of what needs to be achieved for conservation on the site. It brings together and summarises the Conservation Objectives into a single, integrated statement about the site. Section 6 contains NRW’s advice as to the operations which may cause deterioration or disturbance of the habitats and species for which the site has been selected (Regulation 37(3)(b)). This is provided to assist the relevant authorities and others in understanding the implications of the designation of the site and the requirements of the Habitats Regulations and government policy towards it. A Differing View From A Former Government Climate Advisor Sir John Houghton, an expert in climate change, gave an informative and thought provoking talk about climate change at his visit to Fairbourne Village Hall on Friday 6th June. Sir John explained how we learn about climate change through observations and computer modelling. The main impacts will be more intense heat waves, sea level rise and a more intense hydrological cycle leading to more floods and droughts. However, for FFC members the most startling information given, concerned the way in which the time scales and levels of sea rise were presented. ESTIMATES FROM IPPC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) 2014 – 2050: About 20 cm. Chair 2014 – 2100: Between 40cm and 60 cm. Pete Cole The Infamous 41 Questions…. Vice Chair By now every Fairbourne household should have received a copy of answers to all of Sylvia Stephenson our 41 questions which were put to Gwynedd Council. These answers will soon also Secretary be available on our website (www.fairbournefacingchange.com). Due to the number Angela Ware of acronyms and technical vocabulary used in the answers, the FFC asked for a glossary to be provided to aid understanding. Copies of this are available from the FFC Treasurer Secretary, Angela Ware, and this too will soon be available to view on the FFC website. in association with Aber Cottage Beddgelert | Gwynedd | LL55 4YF Aber Cottage Softly surrounded by trees and with the Aberglaslyn River flowing gently through the garden, Aber Cottage is a place of great natural beauty and tranquillity. The cottage began life in the mid eighteenth century, and its character and location have inspired artists to pick up their brushes. A painting of the cottage in eighteen ninety is exhibited in the National Library of Wales. Sadly, the cottage fell into ruin, but was rescued in the nineteen eighties by a local businessman who won an award for the superb restoration. He renovated and extended, retaining the original chimney wall in the kitchen and bedroom. Today it is a charming home where you can enjoy the comforts of the modern age in a unique setting. It was only by chance that the present owners saw a photograph and sale details of the property in a magazine, and immediately fell in love with it. They have loved and enjoyed Aber Cottage for over twenty years and say it is where the cares of the world are washed away and energy revived. There are enchanting views to the river from every room, and it provides a picturesque backdrop to meals in the conservatory or on the patio. The surroundings tempt summer al fresco dining, but the kitchen diner can easily seat eight people and is equipped for the keen cook. The cottage has a calm and pleasing atmosphere. It encourages you to settle in the lounge to read and relax, and the multi fuel stove creates a warming glow on a chilly winters’ day.

Abstract Detection of a population of Pseudosquillopsis cerisii (Roux, 1828) (Crustacea, Stomatopoda, Parasquillidae) in the northwestern Mediterranean. A population of the poorly–known stomatopod crustacean, Pseudosquillopsis cerisii, was detected in the NW Mediterranean Sea. To date, in Mediterranean waters, this species was only known from rare reports that were mainly based on the occurrence of single individuals. Analysis of the stomach contents of sh predators caught i n coastal trammel–net artisanal sheri es r evealed several i ndividuals of t his species on a sandy bottom with nearby Posidonia seagrass beds in an area within the vicinity of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Catalonia). This is the rst r eport of t he species fr o m I beri an Peninsula waters. Key words: Pseudosquillopsis cerisii , Biogeography, Mediterranean, Occurrence, Population, Record Resumen Detección de una población de Pseudosquillopsis cerisii (Roux, 1828) (Crustacea, Sto - matopoda, Parasquillidae) en el Mediterráneo noroccidental.

This document provides the Welsh Government’s Report to the National Assembly for Wales on the Marine Protected Areas network, in response to recommendation 10 of the Environment and Sustainability Committee’s Marine Inquiry. Recommendation 10: By the 31 December 2013, the Welsh Government should voluntarily lay before the Assembly a report that meets the requirement of section 124 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. This report should include an appraisal of the environmental status, governance and enforcement of existing marine protected areas. 2. Section 124 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 (the Marine Act) requires the Welsh Ministers to lay a report before the National Assembly for Wales on the extent to which it has achieved the objectives in the Marine Act to use conservation sites to contribute to a UK network of marine protected areas. The report must cover further steps needed to meet the network objectives, as well as specific details on any Marine Conservation Zones that have been designated. 3. The network objectives as detailed in section 123 of the Marine Act are that European marine sites (Special Areas of Conservation, Special Protection Areas), Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Ramsar sites form a network which contributes to the conservation or improvement of the marine environment in the UK marine area; where the features which are protected by the sites comprised in the network represent the range of features present in the UK marine area; and recognises the conservation of a feature may require the designation of more than one site.
