Brzo se prilagodio novim uvjetima i drugim i drugačijim ljudima. Kako je on po prirodi komunikativan i veseo, ljudi su ga tamo prihvatili s oduševljenjem. Oni se ne mogu načuditi takvoj jednoj osobi, to je njima otkriće. Naravno, dragi Bog nam u svemu pomaže, jer nikada ne znamo zbog čega upravo tako treba biti. Dario je prihvatio tu žrtvu i prikazao je za dobrobit Hrvatskog naroda. Zato lako nosi taj teški križ. Kada žrtva ima smisla, onda se isplati žrtvovati i ne pada ti teško. Izrazio sam tada sumnju da će Pečarić tek tako odustati od buđenja obamrlog nacionalnog bića ma koliko okolnosti tom buđenju bile nesklone. I bio sam u pravu! Mnogi su se umorili i odustali, ali akademik Pečarić nije. Nastavio je i dalje objavljivati knjige i priloge u tisku, nastupati na tribinama i prosvjednim skupovima, pisati otvorena pisma, okupljati i bodriti sve one kojima je Hrvatska na srcu. Pred nama je nova Pečarićeva knjiga, još jedna u uistinu impresivnom nizu. Još jedna i još jednom o istom, ali na uvijek drugačiji, pečarićevski način. Riječ je o jedinstvenoj knjizi u cjelokupnoj hrvatskoj publicistici. Okosnicu te knjige čine otvorena pisma koja je inicirao i oblikovao akademik Pečarić, a potpisali brojni potpisnici najrazličitijih zanimanja, od akademika do radnika, diljem Hrvatske. Pisanje otvorenih pisama pojedinim uglednicima i institucijama nije nikakva novina u hrvatskoj kulturnoj javnosti. Svojedobno je marljivi skribent Matvejević svojim ''umjereno otvorenim'' otvorenim pismima krčio sebi put iz anonimnosti među uglednike, a valja priznati da nije štetio ni onima koje je tobože branio. Doduše, ni koristio im nije, ali to se od njega nije ni očekivalo. Pečarićeva otvorena pisma drukčije su naravi. Kao prvo, ona njemu ne trebaju da bi stekao ime u javnosti, jer on je s imenom jednog od najvažnijih suvremenih matematičara u Hrvatsku došao. No ta su pisma itekako važna nama, svima nama kojima je do Hrvatske stalo, ona nas okupljaju, hrabre, nude nam modalitete javnog djelovanja. Drugo, Pečarićeva otvorena pisma ne traže milost od aktualnih vlasti, pojedinih visokopozicioniranih pripadnika vladajuće kaste ili javnih ustanova, nego te iste proziva i podsjeća ih na njihove obaveze prema pojedincima i narodu u cjelini u ime kojih i zahvaljujući kojima jesu tu gdje jesu. Treće, svako Pečarićevo otvoreno pismo svojevrsni je ''work in progress'', koji se stalno nadopunjuje, napreduje i pridobiva nove suradnike. 10 Tu specifičnost Pečarićevih pisama omogućila je suvremena tehnologija, internet, koliko i autorova iznimna agilnost. Putujući tim virtualnim prostorom od portala do portala, od jedne e-mail adrese do druge i, na koncu, do tisuću njih – te zakotrljane grudve pomalo prizivaju lavinu koja će pomesti izdaju, laž i poniženje s lica Lijepe Naše. Ali da bi se dogodila ta lavina, potreban je i naš udio, naš aktivan doprinos! Pečarić nas, zapravo, danas, kao Šegedin svojedobno, podsjeća na to da smo ''svi odgovorni''. Pečarićeva knjiga je, u svijetlu svega rečenoga, i svojevrsni kulturno-sociološki fenomen. To je, koliko znam, prva internetska knjiga ''ognjištarske'' Hrvatske. Svojedobno su naime kriptokomunisti i kriptoorjunaši sve one koji po njihovom mišljenju pokazivali višak nacionalnog osjećaja nazvali ''ognjištarima''. Onda su se tim ''ognjištarima'', ovisno o inspiraciji, lijepile etikete: nacionalisti, konzervativci, ustaše, fašisti, ćoškastoglavci, čavoglavci itd. Stoga je korisno da se upravo u radionici jednog ''ognjištara'' pojavila ovakva knjiga koja egzamplarno pokazuje kako se služiti suvremenom tehnologijom u borbi za svoj stav i svoje ideje. Najnovija knjiga akademika Pečarića podijeljena je na tri cjeline: Otvorenim pismima za ponos i dostojanstvo; Jesu li Thompson i Miroslav Tuđman jedina prepreka završetku rušenja ponosne Hrvatske i Šalom za ponosnu Hrvatsku. U prvom dijelu središnje mjesto zauzima Inicijativa za referendum o graničnom sporu sa Slovenijom te uz nju vezana otvorena pisma Jadranki Kosor i Andriji Hebrangu, ali i razni prilozi i dodaci s internetskih foruma, imena potpisnika Inicijative i sl. Tu je također uvršteno i prosvjedno pismo Vladi RH Željka Tomaševića u kojem se protestira zbog vladine potpore obnovi spomenika ''četničko- fašističkom zločinu'' u Srbu. Pridodamo li tome otvorena pisma Andriji Hebrangu, inicirana od strane zabrinutih domoljuba iz Istre, u kojima se Hebranga poziva da, ukoliko mu je uistinu stalo do Hrvatske, odustane od predsjedničke utrke u korist Miroslava Tuđmana, jer je u tu utrke i gurnut ne da pobijedi, nego da izgubi i tako još više dezavuira državotvornu političku opciju u Hrvatskoj. U drugom dijelu sabrani su Pečarićevio tekstovi i tekstovi drugih autora ( primjerice, Ivana Aralice, Mate Kovačevića i dr.) tematski naoko raznorodni, no idejno jedinstveni, to jest objedinjeni geslom iz naslova – Za ponosnu Hrvatsku. Thompson i Tuđman tu 11 se izdvajaju kao pojedinci koji se, svaki na svoj način, bore za takvu Hrvatsku, ali i kao simboli takve Hrvatske. Treba odmah dodati i to da je ovaj dio, ali i knjiga u cjelini, u velikoj mjeri u znaku Pečarićeva strastvenog angažmana u promicanju predsjedničke kandidature Miroslava Tuđmana. Ali nije to angažman profesionalnog propagandista, nego angažman intelektualca koji svoje vrijeme i energiju ulaže u promicanje politike koja će vratiti dostojanstvo zajednici kojoj i sam pripada. Ako Tuđman na predstojećim izborima ostvari značajan rezultat, bit će to konačno jedna dobra vijest u ovoj sve tmurnijoj zemlji, vijest koja budi nadu. Tom općem zadovoljstvu svih iskrenih domoljuba, ja ću osobno, onako za sebe, dodati još jedno – zadovoljstvo zbog potvrde da se basnoslovno skupoj propagandi i medijskoj manipulaciji može suprotstaviti snagom uvjerenja, čistim srcem i bistrim umom. Knjiga završava pomalo burleskno, svojevrsnom mistifikacijom. Pečarić tu pušta mašti na volju i u internetski optjecaj pušta ''topničke dnevnike'' koje je, kako kaže, pronašao u svom kompjuteru. Ti ''dnevnici'' ,obogaćeni pismima autoru i forumaškim raspravama o njima, možda ponajbolje ogoljuju poslušničko ludilo koje je zahvatilo

The HDZ’s Patriotic coalition secured 59 seats, including 3 seats representing the Croatian diaspora, while the SDP’s Croatia Grows coalition reached 56, while also being able to count on 3 seats pledged to them by a regional party, IDS. The elections also saw the rise of a strong third contender, Most Nezavisnih Lista (Bridge of Independent Lists), who secured 19 seats and could act as potential kingmakers in coalition negotiations. We asked five experts for their reactions to the result and their views on what might happen next.     Međunarodne studije, god. 13, br. 3-4, 2013, str. 55-79 55 Pregledni znanstveni članak UDK: 327(497.5)”1991/2000” Evaluating Tuđman’s Foreign Policy (Un)successful Protection of National Interest; From Defender to Despot1 Bojana Klepač Pogrmilović* Summary The majority of Croatian foreign policy creators and certain scholars evaluate Croatian foreign policy as very successful, especially when compared to do- mestic policy. Furthermore, the first Croatian president Franjo Tuđman – the main creator of Croatian foreign policy during the 1991-2000 period – is of- ten invoked as a supreme defender of Croatian national interests. This article challenges such positions by setting up a normative framework, which states that Croatian national interest was (is) to become a functional Europeanized parliamentary democracy, based on values, norms and principles formulated in acquis communautaire. Through simplified normativism, the article evalu- ates four main points: “respect for sovereignty”, “peace”, “market economy” and “rule of law” in which the Croatian foreign policy, whose main creator was Franjo Tuđman, largely contributed to the alienation of Croatia from its vital national interest. The final part of the article evaluates Tuđman’s thought that focuses mainly on the position of small peoples within multinational en- tities, democracy, Croatia and the EU etc. One of the main reasons of a failed democratic transition is found in Tuđman’s perception that Croatia became a democratic state just by formally adopting a democratic Constitution. In particular, I am appealing against the charge of insult by Slobodan Vugrinec, the former mayor of Motovun. I am also appealing against Croatian courts that help the likes of Vugrinec in political repression against those who criticize their policies. Libel and insult cases have been one of the favorite weapons of politicians, and they have been victorious all too often. In 2008 and 2009, Vugrinec took me to court first for libel and then for insult. In 2009 he also arranged yet another libel case against me by the Municipality of Motovun. All this was done in preparation for the municipal elections in 2009. Vugrinec and the Motovun Municipality lost the libel cases, but he won the insult case at the Municipal Court in Pazin in 2010. All of us appealed to the Regional Court in Pula, but the original decision was upheld in 2011.

    GENERAL ELECTION IN CROATIA 08th November 2015 European Elections monitor Just one month before the general elections in Croatia the opposition coalitions and that of the outgoing government are running neck and neck in the polls. Corinne Deloy Abstract: The Croats are being called to ballot on 8th November next to renew the deputies in the Hrvatski Sabor, the only chamber in Parliament. On 28th September last the 123 MPs pres- ent voted unanimously for the dissolution of parliament. Analysis Just a month before the election the gap separating the right and left-wing forces is tight. According to a survey by Promocija+, published on 4th October, the opposition coalition (right) led by the Democratic Union (HDZ) and Tomislav Karamako is due to win 32.9% of the vote, with 31.9% going to the government coalition (left) led by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic’s Social Democratic Party (SDP). The latter immediately recalled that just a year ago the polls all forecast victory for Ivo Josipovic (SDP) in the presidential election that took place on 28th December and 11th January last, whilst in the end it was won by Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic (HDZ). This victory might have been the first step in the return to office on the part of HDZ.
