6.1Road Transportation
Preparation of Sub Regional Plan for Haryana Sub-Region of NCR-2021: Interim Report -II Chapter 6 : TRANSPORTATION 6.1 Road Transportation Since the formation of Haryana state, there has been a significant growth in the road transportation sector of Haryana. As on year 2001, around 23, 000 km of roads connect to villages and cities in Haryana state and with its neighbor states. At present more than 99.88 percentages of villages are connected by metalled roads and road density is around 63.8 km per 100 sq. km area. Length of different types of roads in Haryana State is as follows: National Highways : 1,346 km State Highways : 2,559 km Major District Roads : 1,569 km Other Distt. & village roads : 14,730 km Other roads : 2,852 km Source: Statistical Abstract Haryana, 2006-07 However, economic development in the state is taking place at very higher rate in comparison to other states of India. This is the reason for large density of vehicles on these available roads. As per the information available for the year 2003-2004, about 5763 motor vehicles accommodated within 100 square kilometer of area. Though, the registered number of vehicles as on 31st march 2004 were 25, 47,910, in actual about 28, 53,667 number of motor vehicles traveled on roads of Haryana sate. This shows that a significant percentage of through traffic passes through Haryana state. This large volume of traffic may cause road accidents which results in huge loss of economy and human resources, if proper transportation facilities are not provided. -

CHIRANJIB NAD. ABSTRACT: Out of the total landslide occurrences, nearly 20% are found in North Eastern region of India. The official figures of United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) and the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) for the year 2006 also states that landslide ranked third in terms of number of deaths among the top ten natural disasters, as approximately 4 million people were affected by landslides. Unless human death it poses serious damage on roadways, railways, buildings, dams and many natural resources with untold measure of ecosystem and human society. As transportation is a lifeline of a civilization and lack of self sufficiency of a region it hold an important place to meet daily needs of human beings of a region. The study route (NH 31 A, NH 55 and SH 12 A) of landlocked Darjeeling district is very much prone to landslide vulnerability. The black memories of previous massive landslide hazard took large impression on the inhabited society. Sometime the district remains isolated island due to breakdown of transportation for a stretch of days in the time of massive landslide along study route. The main objective of the study is to highlight/describe the present situation of landslide zone along three study route. The study also highlight the nature of landslide took place according to their vulnerability scale, type of movement, type of activity, type of distribution and lastly type of style for further management. -

Para- transit modes are mostly used for trips with shorter journey length, link trips and marketing and educational trips. They are also essential to feed the main roads with the feeder roads. At the beginning Kolkata was designed on pedestrian movement and mass transit in the form of tram. That time cycle rickshaw and hand puller rickshaw were the principle mode of transport to connect main road. Later on with development of new technologies the use of environment friendly rickshaw got reduced and promotion of taxi and auto rickshaw began. Present study will focuses on the spatial expansion of Kolkata city toward south along the auto rickshaw routes and an emphasis will be given to find out their reciprocal relationship. This study reveals that auto rickshaw is both the boon and bane of Kolkata city, as it can move through both the arterial and major roads. But in congested areas this has created lots of problem. For the transportation development of an area this plays an important role. For the development of smart transportation plan the number of auto rickshaw must be under control which indirectly reduces the externalities of transport of Kolkata city. In this article, we have presented the results of our analysis of the data collected during this interval. This study is focused on the investigation of the temporal variations, potential sources, long-range transport of BC aerosols along with the meteorological impact on these aerosols. BC is found to exhibit strong seasonal variation with the maximum concentration during premonsoon (5.0 ± 1.1 µg/m3) followed by winter (3.9 ± 2.2 µg/m3), postmonsoon (2.9 ± 1.0 µg/m3) and minimum during monsoon (1.7 ± 0.7 µg/m3). BC concentration varied between 0.2–12.8 µg/m3 with an average of 3.4 ± 1.9 µg/m3 over the entire period of study. -
