DEFINING REGULATORS OF HUMAN HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELLS Christine Karlsson Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy Department of Laboratory Medicine Faculty of Medicine DOCTORAL DISSERTATION With the approval of the Lund University Faculty of Medicine, this thesis will be defended on June 15, 2013 at 09.00 in the Segerfalk lecture hall, BMC A10, Sölvegatan 17, Lund, Sweden. Faculty opponent Professor Hal E. Broxmeyer, PhD Indiana School of Medicine Indiana, USA Organization Document name LUND UNIVERSITY DOCTORAL DISSERTATION Date of issue Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy June 15, 2013 Institution of Laboratory Medicine, Lund Author(s) Sponsoring organization Christine Karlsson Title and subtitle DEFINING REGULATORS OF HUMAN HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELLS Abstract Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a conceptual and elegant example of stem cell therapy, rendered possible by the dual capacity of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to self-renew and differentiate. These defining features ultimately ensure the production of all blood cell lineages and simultaneous maintenance of the stem cell pool, thereby maintaining lifelong homeostasis. Banked umbilical cord blood (CB) is an abundant and readily available stem cell resource. However, the relatively low numbers of hematopoietic stem- and progenitor cells (HSPCs) present in a typical single CB unit and the associated delay in engraftment restrict its routine applicability to primarily children. Despite intense global efforts to find strategies that would enable the ex vivo amplification of transplantable stem cells, the culture of HSCs outside their natural environment has proven difficult. It is therefore important to understand how HSC self-renewal, proliferation, and differentiation are integrated, which molecules participate in their regulation and how these could be modified for clinical benefit.

DIE LIEBE DER DANAE July 29 – August 7, 2011 the richard b. fisher center for the performing arts at bard college About The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, an environment for world-class artistic presentation in the Hudson Valley, was designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2003. Risk-taking performances and provocative programs take place in the 800-seat Sosnoff Theater, a proscenium-arch space; and in the 220-seat Theater Two, which features a flexible seating configuration. The Center is home to Bard College’s Theater and Dance Programs, and host to two annual summer festivals: SummerScape, which offers opera, dance, theater, operetta, film, and cabaret; and the Bard Music Festival, which celebrates its 22nd year in August, with “Sibelius and His World.” The Center bears the name of the late Richard B. Fisher, the former chair of Bard College’s Board of Trustees. This magnificent building is a tribute to his vision and leadership. The outstanding arts events that take place here would not be possible without the contributions made by the Friends of the Fisher Center. • Handel's Oratorios and the Culture of Sentiment By
Virtue Rewarded: Handel’s Oratorios and the Culture of Sentiment by Jonathan Rhodes Lee A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the Requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Music in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in charge: Professor Davitt Moroney, Chair Professor Mary Ann Smart Professor Emeritus John H. Roberts Professor George Haggerty, UC Riverside Professor Kevis Goodman Fall 2013 Virtue Rewarded: Handel’s Oratorios and the Culture of Sentiment Copyright 2013 by Jonathan Rhodes Lee ABSTRACT Virtue Rewarded: Handel’s Oratorios and the Culture of Sentiment by Jonathan Rhodes Lee Doctor of Philosophy in Music University of California, Berkeley Professor Davitt Moroney, Chair Throughout the 1740s and early 1750s, Handel produced a dozen dramatic oratorios. These works and the people involved in their creation were part of a widespread culture of sentiment. This term encompasses the philosophers who praised an innate “moral sense,” the novelists who aimed to train morality by reducing audiences to tears, and the playwrights who sought (as Colley Cibber put it) to promote “the Interest and Honour of Virtue.” The oratorio, with its English libretti, moralizing lessons, and music that exerted profound effects on the sensibility of the British public, was the ideal vehicle for writers of sentimental persuasions. My dissertation explores how the pervasive sentimentalism in England, reaching first maturity right when Handel committed himself to the oratorio, influenced his last masterpieces as much as it did other artistic products of the mid- eighteenth century. When searching for relationships between music and sentimentalism, historians have logically started with literary influences, from direct transferences, such as operatic settings of Samuel Richardson’s Pamela, to indirect ones, such as the model that the Pamela character served for the Ninas, Cecchinas, and other garden girls of late eighteenth-century opera.

FREE ARTHURS EYES PDF Marc Brown | 32 pages | 03 Apr 2008 | Little, Brown & Company | 9780316110693 | English | New York, United States Arthurs Eyes | Elwood City Wiki | Fandom The episode begins with four LeVars looking at seeing riddles in different ways. With one picture, the first one sees it as spots on a giraffe. The second one sees it as eyes and a nose when you turn it around at 90 degrees. The third one sees it as a close-up of Swiss cheese. The fourth one sees it as two balloons playing catch. It all depends on how you look at it. The four LeVars look at a couple more eye riddles. Many people see many things in different ways. Besides having a unique way of seeing things, people's other senses are unique too. LeVar loves coming Arthurs Eyes the farmer's bazaar because he gets surrounded by all kinds of sights, smells, and textures. He challenges the viewers' eyes at seeing Arthurs Eyes of certain fruits and vegetables. The things the viewers see are viewed through a special camera lens. Some people use special lenses to see things, especially when they can't see well. LeVar explains, "I wear glasses, and sometimes I wear contact lenses. A different color blindness, unlike with your eyes, has something to do with your mind. It has nothing to do with what you see, but how you see it. LeVar has a flipbook he made himself. The picture changes each time you turn a page. Flipping the pages faster looks like a moving film.
