Some Albums To Keep Your Toes Warm This October Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review As Autumn wraps her chilly arms around the country we look to music for the comfort that we can no longer get from happiness or the sun. Luckily, this time of year tends to be when great new bands get off their asses and go out on tour, while it also seems like there is another fantastic new album to delight us every single day. By JOHN BITTLES In fact, there are so many great new releases this month that there is absolutely no chance of squeezing them into one single article. This week alone I will be reviewing Caribou, Gui Boratto, The 2 Bears, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, and tons more. While, next week we’ll have new albums by Slam, Distal, Huxley, DJ Koze among others. So, make yourself comfy, turn off the phone, geta nice glass of wine, and let us begin. As lead single ›Can’t Do Without You‹ won both our hearts and minds this summer it is only fair to commence with ›Our Love‹, the much anticipated follow-up to ›Swim‹ by Caribou. The aforementioned ›Can’t Do Without You‹ opens proceedings in, sadly, edited form, yet that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most touchingly beautiful four minute pop song you are likely to hear all year. Next track ›Silver‹ keeps the emotional trance elements to the fore, while alternate sounds are explored with ›All I Ever Need‹ utilizing UK Garage style bass over Dan’s falsetto and the title track›‹ recalling a time when the Es were good, and hugging strangers was par for the course.

Truck, which had been the centrepiece of Oxford’s live music calendar since 1998, surviving both floods and foot and mouth crises, succumbed to financial woes last year, going into administration in September. However, the event has been taken over by the organisers of Y-Not Festival in Derbyshire, which won Best Grassroots Festival 2011 at the UK Festival Awards. The new organisers hope to take Truck back to its roots as a local community festival. In a statement on the Truck website, Joe and Robin announced, ““We have always felt a great responsibility for the integrity and sustainability of Truck Festival, which grew so quickly and with such enthusiasm from very humble beginnings in 1998. Via Truck’s unique catering arrangements with the Rotary Club, tens of thousands of pounds have been raised for charities and good causes every year, including last year, and many great bands have taken their first steps to international prominence. • News Update for London's Museums
@LondonMusDev E-update for London’s Museums – 10 June 2021 Museum Development London Recovery grants programme (£32k) supported by The Art Fund This programme, supported by The Art Fund, is designed to help museums to analyse and assess their current position and to identify priorities for activity to support post Covid recovery through a short, facilitated self-assessment process. Further to self-assessment and analysis 8 grants of up to £4000 will be available to successful participants. Further information and access to full guidance and application documents can be found here. Deadline for applications to the programme 05 July 2021. Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) The MEND grants scheme is an open-access capital fund targeted at non-national Accredited museums and local authorities based in England. Details of How to Apply are available on the ACE website. Closing date for applications: 05 July. As outlined in the ‘roadmap’ for England to move out of lockdown, museums are now able to open. The government has published the ‘COVID-19 Response - Spring 2021’ document, which outlines the plan in more detail. The move out of lockdown is reliant on four conditions which must be met before moving on a step – so these dates should be used as guides for the time being. Government has recently announced the Restart Grant scheme which supports businesses in the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, personal care and accommodation sectors with a one-off grant, to reopen safely as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The grants are available now through your local authorities and consist of either up to £6,000 in the non-essential retail sector (likely to reopen on 12th April) or up to £18,000 in the hospitality, museums, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym sectors.

  • V&A Innovative Leadership 2015/16 Programme
V&A Innovative Leadership 2015/16 Programme 14th October 2015 - 20th July 2016 What participants say: “The innovative course is an excellent opportunity to take time out from usual hectic schedules to take stock and focus on vital leadership and management self-development. It also provides tools and material that have immediate value in terms of supporting solutions for organisational challenges, and long term sustainability.” “The programme provided the opportunity I had been looking for – time away from the day job to think hard about my practice as a museum professional, and in turn for my teams. I have come away from the programme inspired.” "In just a year I feel I have come a long way which is what I had hoped when I started the course. The course helped build my confidence and has made me realise my potential. It gave me the confidence to go for a promotion which I have since got." "This programme is refreshingly different from other offers in the UK in going beyond bite-sized management information: management and leadership are explored through inspirational lectures by leaders who provide an authentic insight into their work; several real-life assignments at the V&A and other culture institutions gave my fellow participants and me ample opportunity to practice and gain experience. I have met extraordinary people from institutions across the country, and formed strong links. The action learning sets have been one of the key ingredients in my opinion. My action learning set continues to meet: we learn from each other, and grow together." “It has improved my confidence which has in turn improved my effectiveness in dealing with challenging situations.
