ANNUAL REPORT 2013-2014

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent and the most merciful. At the very outset, we raise our hearts in gratitude to the omnipotent spirit who is the beginning and end of all endeavours without whose blessings we can do nothing. Respected Chief guests of the day, other dignitaries on the dies and off the dies, my colleagues, my dear students. With all your permission, let me present before you the 45th annual report of MES Asmabi College for the academic year 2013 – 14. As I look back, this academic year has brought many accomplishments and also made us see the gaps in some areas where there is a definite scope for improvement. The new College Management Committee was formed on 21st May 2013 with Adv P K M Habeeb as the President, Mr K M Abdul Salam as the Secretary and Correspondent and Mr P H Ziyaudheen Ahamed as the Treasurer. The current strength of students is 1171 out of which 849 are girls. We have twelve undergraduate programmes; four post graduate programmes, one research programme and three career oriented courses. Our staff includes 18 Associate professors, 27 Assistant professors, 20 guest faculties and 17 Non teaching staff. General Activities of College

 9 Minor Research Projects were sanctioned by UGC in the year 2013. The Principal Investigators are: Dr. Ajims P Mohammed, Smt Deepa K A, Dr Haseena V A, Smt Shiney C N, Smt Sheena P A, Dr George K J, Sri U Aboobacker, Smt Sheeba N H and Smt Rethika K T.  UGC has sanctioned two national seminars to Hindi and Economics Depts  UGC has sanctioned an Add-on course on “Ornamental Fish Culture” to Aquaculture department.  6 MRP’s were sanctioned to the following members of faculty in the year 2014 Sri Firdousmon K, Sri Sanand C, Smt Najila T Y, Miss Sameera Haneef, Sri Sivadasan T P and Smt Sefiya K M.  The 1st batch of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP), was held from 25th April 2013 to 15th May 2013.

 Inauguration of IInd batch of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme by Adv V S Sunil Kumar MLA was held from 8th May 2013 to 28th May 2013.  The State Higher Education Council, Muslim Educational Society and MES Asmabi College jointly organized a Faculty Development Programme for newly joined Assistant Professors of MES Collegiate Service on 21st and 22nd June 2013. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Kadavanad Mohamed, Correspondent and Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Colleges.  Sanctioned 4 Self financing/unaided degree programmes by the Government of Kerala viz. B.Com Finance, BBA, BA Mass Communication and BCA.  Sanctioned M A Economics programme in aided stream.  The Equal Opportunity Centre of the college arranged a skill enhancement programme ‘BLOOM’ to the final year B. Sc degree students on 5th and 6th of July 2013. Psychologist Sri Jinto Mathew (Director, Green Life Foundation, Ernakulam) was the resource person.  I D.C Classes started on 8th July 2013. College Managing Committee Secretary inaugurated the Function organized to welcome the freshers. Sri A P Nizam, Senior Resource Person, CIGI handled the counseling session for parents and first year degree students.  The College Union collected and donated an amount of Rs 6000/ to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Fund in connection with the Utharakhand flood relief.  The Department of Hindi conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Child characters in Hindi literature” on 19th and 20th July 2013. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P A Fazal Gafoor, State President, MES Kerala.  The College collected and donated dress materials to Samskara Sahithi in connection with the Utharakhand flood relief.  The college fine arts club organized an intercollegiate music competition on Mohammed Rafi songs Yaad Na Jaaye on 31st July 2013 to commemorate the renowned singer on his 33rd death anniversary. Students from various colleges participated in the programme.

 The Legal Literacy Club organized a seminar on the topic ‘Anti –Ragging’ on 1st August 2013. The programme was inaugurated by Sri M Surendran, Circle Inspector of Police, . The Class was handled by Adv Jaffer Khan.  College Union Election was conducted in a peaceful manner on 5th September 2013.  Mehandi and Mappilapattu Competitions were conducted on 6th September 2013.  Onam Celebrations was held on 12th September 2013. Various programmes including “Snehakootaayma”, to honour the elderly people around the college were arranged. The Programme was inaugurated by Sri K P Dhanapalan M P  First year P.G Classes started on 25th September 2013.  An introduction on ASAP is given to the first year degree students on 25th September2013.  Smt P M Saboorabi, Head, Department of English retired from service on 30th September 2013 after 32 years of service.Sri Abdulla K A, Lab Assistant has retired from service on 31st Oct 2013. Sri Abdul Nasser, Librarian retired from the service on 30th Nov 2013. Dr K J George, Associate Professor, Dept of Botany will be retired from the service on 31st March 2014. Let me take this opportunity to wish them the very best in their future endeavours.  Ozone Day celebrations was held on 4th October 2013.  A debate was organized by the Women’s forum on the topic “Vivahapraayavum Anaachaarangalum”, on 7th October 2013.  The Inauguration of College Union and Fine Arts was held on 10 October 2013. The Union was inaugurated by the Poet Sri Srijth Ariyalloor and the Fine arts inaugurated by the famous Cine Artist Sri Sekhar Menon.  College celebrated Kerala Piravi Day on 1 November 2013. The Department of organized a regional seminar “BHASKARAM” and an intercollegiate Malayalam recitation and Film song competition of P.Bhaskaran songs to commemorate the renowned lyricist P Bhaskaran. Famous Script Writer Sri John Paul was the Chief Guest. Kerala Purushan and Kerala Manka competitions were also conducted by the fine arts club on the same day.

 Distribution of “AaCheppu” magazine held on 20 November 2013.  The Kerala State Higher Education Council has sanctioned a Major Research Project “A Study on the Total Quality Management of Higher Education Institutions in the state of Kerala” to Dr Ajims P Mohammed, Principal  Prof P. O. J Lebba, General Secretary, MES Kerala laid the foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Memorial New Commerce Block on 21 November 2013.  NAAC has sanctioned a two day National Conference on the topic ‘Role of ICT in Institutional Quality Enhancement-Assessing Current Status and exploring New Frontiers’ to be conducted on 17th and 18th June 2014.  The Equal Opportunity Center organised a counseling class to the first year BA & B.Sc students on 12th December 2013. Sister Leena Theresa was the counsellor.  The College Film club organised a film documentary exhibition and Open Forum on 16th December 2013. Sri Rupesh Kumar, Film Director was the Chief Guest.  The NCC cadets organised a Cycle Rally to make awareness against the use of Drugs and Alcohol on 17th December 2013.  The College Magazine 2012-2013 “Popcorn” was released on 17th December 2013. Sri Saji Surendran, Film Director was the Chief Guest.  The College Women’s forum organised a Quiz Competition on the topic “Women Achievers” on 17th December 2013.  The Inspection Committee on Autonomous Colleges visited the College on 19th and 20th December 2013.  Dr Ajims P Mohammed, Principal has been appointed as the member (Eminent Educationalist) of Kerala State Education Advisory Board by the Government of Kerala.  The College organised a rally at Kodungallur to make awareness against the use of Drugs and Alcohol on 31st December 2013. Sri P K Padmarajan, Sub Inspector of Police, Kodungallur inaugurated the rally.  A faculty development programme was conducted on 9th January 2014 on “Innovative Teaching Methodology” sponsored by The Kerala State Higher Education Council and organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and PG Dept. of Economics. Suresh, Professor, School of Pedagogical Sciences, MG University, Kottayam was the resource person.  The Additional Skill Acquisition Training Programme (ASAP) was inaugurated by Adv V S Sunil Kumar MLA on 13th January 2014  Arts Festival celebrated on 15th and 16th January 2014  Organised a seminar on Archives in association with Kerala State Archives Dept. on 23rd January 2014  Annual Sports meet held on 24th January 2014  Dr Siddiq memorial Intercollegiate Football tournament was held on 29th & 30th January 2014. Sree Kerala Varma College, won the tournament  D-Zone Competitions started from 29th January 2014. In the D Zone Competitions, Parichamuttu team won Ist prize and Hindi Drama won 3rd prize  A training programme was conducted for NTS on 1ST Feb 2014. The Class was handled by Mr Rasheed, Under Secretary (Retd). KPSC.  Prof Kadavanad Mohamed, Correspondent & Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Colleges addressed the teachers on 6th Feb 2014  College Magazine ‘Popcorn’ received a special Jury mention in the Aboobacker Shafi Memorial College Magazine Award 2013 instituted by PSMO College, Thirurangadi.  The Govt of Kerala has sanctioned Scholar Support Programme (SSP) to our college and allotted an amount of Rs 94,500/- on 10th Feb 2014  The University Grants Commission has sanctioned an amount of Rs 12,50,000/- as Additional Development Assistance on 11th Feb 2014. The total financial assistance from UGC for the year 2013-2014 is Rs 31,14,000/-  A training programme “Horizon”was organized for the selected students from final year degree class on 15th Feb 2014. The resource person was Mr Sooraj Abraham, Chief Trainer, Career.com, Aluva  Meeting of Principles Council was held at our College on 15th Feb 2014. A reception was arranged to Dr T A Abdul Majeed, Registrar, Calicut University at the meeting  A seminar on Mohammed AbduRahiman Sahib was conducted under the auspicious of MES Institute of Science and Culture (MESISC) on 19th Feb 2014. Dr P A Fazal Gafoor, President, MES Kerala inaugurated the seminar.  A Career Guidance Training Programme was organized for Final year Degree Students under the sponsorship of Directorate of Minority Welfare was held on 20th Feb 2014. General Activities of the Department:

Research Dept. of Botany  The Research Department of Botany organised a seminar on the topic “Think, Eat & Save” in connection with World Environment Day Celebrations on 5th June 2013. The seminar was sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Trivandrum. The resource person was Dr V J Dominic, Rtd HOD, Botany Dept. S H College, Thevara.  Dr. K.K.Vaheeda and Dr. V.M.Asma, Associate Professors, PG and Research Department of Botany took students on a field and poly house visit to Nattika on 7th November 2013.  Botany Association was inaugurated by Dr. Tessy Paul, Associate professor, Department of Botany, Christ College, . The Seminar was followed by Research in Freshwater algae of Kerala. Shri Kareem Kizhakkumpuram conducted a class on healthy food habits  A Workshop on Taxonomy was arranged by Research Dept of Botany on 7th March 2014

PG Dept of English  The PG Department of English conducted Reading Day celebration on 19.06.2013 including students from the English and Economics Department.  The PG Department of English conducted Freshers’ Day on 9th July 2013 to welcome new students to the English Department.  The PG Department of English conducted first of Invited Lecture Series on the topic Panorama: The Cinematic wave on 30th September 2013.  The P.G Department of English conducted II edition of the Invited Lecture Series, ‘How to Manage a Project’ on 28 November 2013. Resource Person was Dr. PK Babu, H.O.D Department of English KAHM Unity College, Manjeri.

 The students of PG Department of English organized ‘December Delights’ Juice Fest on 31st December 2013.  The PG Deparment of English conducted NET coaching to current and previous P.G.NET aspirants.  English Association inauguration was conducted on 22nd January, 2014. Dr. T.V. Sajeev, Scientist of KFRI, Thrissur spoke on the topic ‘Life and Literature: Reflections’. Skits and other cultural programmes are engaged students. PG Dept of Commerce  The PG Department of Commerce conducted a Quiz programme for Plus Two commerce students on 27th November 2013. Students from nearby schools were participated.Cash prizes were distributed to the winners.  One day training programme was organized by ED Club & PG Dept. of Commerce for making household products for self employment purpose to the ED Club members & selected housewives from different wards of SN Puram Panchayath. Sri.Vargheese Paul (a Social Activist) demonstrated the items.

 The Commerce Association was inaugurated by Sri. Vijay Korath & delivered a talk on the Topic “Career Guidance” on 14-02-14 PG Dept of Economics  The Department of Economics has conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on the topic ‘Gift in Green-A lyrical lament on environmental degradation’ on 3rd & 4th December 2013. The National Seminar was inaugurated by Sri K P Dhanapalan M P.  The Dept of Economics organized an erudite lecture on Kerala Budget 2013-2014 on 25th Feb 2014. It was handled by Sri C P John, Member, Kerala State Planning Board.  Economics association was inaugurated by Dr.Babu Ibrahim, retired professor, M.E.S Ponnani College on 6th January 2014. Dept of Physics  27 students of B.Sc. class applied for the Physics Talent Search exam, proposed to be held on 28th September 2013, organized by the Academy of Physics Teachers, Kerala.

 Department of Physics started a weekly Quiz series for promoting reading habits among the students.  The Department of Physics organised Project Presentation Competition on 11th December 2013  Dept of Physics organized a general quiz competition on 9th July 2013. P G Department of Botany won 1st prize and B Com C A and B Com Co-Operation won 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.  Physics association 2013-14 was inaugurated on 06th January 2014 by Dr.K.Reghu, Head of Dept of Physics, Govt KKTM College, Pullut. There was an invited talk on ‘Physics of Music’, which was interesting as well as informative and useful to physics students. Dept of Aquaculture  The Department of Aquaculture conducted a Seminar on Marine Fisheries along with the inauguration of Aquaculture Association on 22nd January 2014. Dr. Ranjeet K, Assistant Professor of Aquaculture Department, M.E.S. Ponani College, was the resource person.  Aqua Film Festival was conducted on 29/10/2013. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Haseena, P.H. Technical Officer, Matsyafed Prawn Hatchery, Kaipamangalam  The Aquaculture Association was inaugurated by Ms. Akhilamole, M.A. Aquaconsultant and our former student. The Seminar section on Marine Fisheries was led by Dr. Ranjeet, K., Asst. Professor of Aquaculture Department, M.E.S. Ponani College. Students cleaned the aqua tanks and stocked the fishes.  The Department of Mathematics organised celebrations in connection with National Mathematics day on 10th January, 2014. Dr. P. Ramakrishnan was the chief guest.  “Villaveduppu Mahotsawam” was conducted by the Dept. of Mathematics on 6th January 2014. Dept of Hindi

 The department of Hindi organized a UGC sponsored National Seminar, ‘Child characters in Hindi literature’ at MES Asmabi College, on 19th, 20th July 2013. In additionto that the Department of Hindi has organized 16 regional/ state/ national seminars in the academic year 2013 – 2014.  The Dept. of Hindi conducted a workshop on the topic ‘Kabir aur Soor ke Bhakti Bhaavnaa’ on 06th June 2013.  The Dept of Hindi organised a Seminar in association with Vivekananda Foundation on 1st Feb 2014.

Dept of Arabic  The Dept. of Arabic Conducted a Ramadan Quiz Competition on 29th July and a Ramadan Speech by Anas Nadwi on 30th July.  The Department of Arabic celebrated International Arabic day on 18th December 2013. Dr Yahya Khan, Assistant Professor, Maharajas College, Ernakulam was the Chief Guest. He presented a paper on “Scope of Arabic Language in Contemporary Era”  The Department of Arabic released a Written Magazine on 18th December 2013.  The Department of Arabic organized a lecture on “Educational & Cultural Differences in and Thailand” by Wipharat Nokaenman (Thailand) on 8th January 2014.  Arabic Seminar sponsored by KSHEC on the topic ‘Quran and Science’ held on 10th March 2014. It was inaugurated by Sri P M Salahudheen, Member Syndicate, University of Calicut.

Dept of Biochemistry & Zoology

 A Blood group detection camp was arranged jointly by department of Biochemistry and Zoology on 25th September 2013.  The Dept of Biochemistry and Zoology jointly organized a 3 day Science and Technology Exhibition “Scientia ’14” in connection with the National Science day celebration from 4th to 6th February 2014. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr M Abdul Salam, Hon. Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut. Dept of Malayalam

 The Department of Malayalam organized a regional seminar “BHASKARAM” and an intercollegiate Malayalam recitation and Film song competition of P.Bhaskaran songs to commemorate the renowned lyricist P Bhaskaran. Dept of History  The Department of History organized a one day State Level History Seminar under the supervision of Kerala Archives Department at MES Asmabi College, P. Vemballur on 23rd January 2014. Dept of Physical Education

 The Dept of Physical Education has conducted a two day “TWENTY 20” Cricket tournament held on 8th and 9th January 2014. College team won the Winner Trophy by defeating MES College, Marampally.  The Dept of Physical Education has conducted 2nd inter collegiate Football tournament on 29th and 30th January 2014. 7 teams participated. St.Thomas College won the ever rolling trophy by defeating Sree Keralavarma College Thrissur. Kodungallur Highway S.I. Sri. Ajayakumar inaugurated the tournament.

 The College Annual Sports Day celebrated on 24th January 14. Dept of Statistics  The Dept of Statistics has conducted one day seminar on “Statistical Inference using R Programming” for Degree (Mathematics) and P.G.(Commerce and Botany) students on 23rd January 2014. Dr. Joby. K. Jose, Assistant Professor, P. G. Department of Statistics, St.Joseph’s College, Devagiri was the resource person.  A training programme was organized by the Dept of Statistics in ‘LaTeX’ for IV Semester Degree (Mathematics) students. Seminars/ workshops attended by the students

 7 students of II B.Com Co-operation have attended a seminar titled “Nirbhaya” held at St.Joseph’s College, Irinjalakkuda, organized by Kerala State Women Forum on 10th January 2014.  I M.Com students have attended an Awareness Programme about “Online Trading – SEBI” on 06th January 2014 held at M.E.S College, Marampally, Aluva.  TIME,Thrissur provided a Career Guidance class for III B.Com Co-operation & Computer Application students on 13th January 2014.  Smt Bindu Jamal, Associate Professor, PG Dept of English has successfully completed her Ph.D Open Defense on the topic The Politics, Ideology and Method of Space: a study of selected fiction of J M Coetzee at M G University Kottayam on 29th Aug 2013.  Smt Sophy Jacob, Associate Professor, Dept of Statistics has successfully completed her Ph.D Open Defense on the topic “A study on circular distributions”at University of Calicut on 12th September 2013

 Sri Sanand C Sadanandakumar, NSS Programme Officer has been selected as Contingent Leader of Kerala State NSS team to attend the Adventure Camp at Manali, Himachal Pradesh from 28th December 2013 to 06th January 2014.  Smt Najila T.Y. participated in SDE Trainer Workshop for Master Trainers conducted by the ASAP on 11th to 14th November at Trivandrum.  Dr Bindu Jamal, HOD, P G Dept of English has chaired a session in the National seminar on Film and Popular Culture in the Indian Context, at Govt. College, Thripunithura on 7th & 8th January, 2014.  Sri Sivadasan T P, Assistant Professor, Dept. of History has awarded PhD from University of Calicut for his thesis on “Social and Cultural Life of Lower castes in Malabar since 1500 AD with special reference to Scheduled Castes in Old Ernad Taluk from 1500 – 1947 AD” on 3rd January 2014  Sanand.C.Sadananda kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept of Politics has been selected as the Contingent leader of Kerala state NSS truckking team to Manali. The 10 days training was conducted by ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE INSTITUE OF MOUNTAINEERING & ALLIED SPORTS, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, from28th December 2013 to 06th January 2014. Achievements of students

 Siraj K A of 1 Semester BCA got 3rd prize in the Inter Collegiate Mohammed Rafi Song Competition conducted by the Fine Arts Club of MES Asmabi College  Anas P.H of III B.com Co-operation won Third Prize in “Kick Boxing” competition (state level) held on 25th August 2013 at Thiruvananthapuram & got selection at national level.  M.E.S Asmabi College got 3rd Prize in D-Zone (Volley Ball) conducted at Christ College, Irinjalakkuda on 24th & 25th September 2013. Anas P.H, Noufal P.A & Danish C.D of III B.com co-operation were team members of Volley Ball.  Three students participated in the inter collegiate Speech & Recitation competition at Little Flower College , and Jasir Iqbal of first year B.A.English won second price

 Ms.Ruksana Kabeer of II Semester Aquaculture has participated in the Collage Competition conducted at KKTM College, Kodungallur and won the appreciation Prize.  Anas P.H of III B.Com Co-operation got Browns medal in Boxing (Interzone - Calicut University) held at St.Thomas college, Thrissur on 26 & 27t November 2013.  Sri Mohammed Rafi , IV semester BSc Aquaculture and Sri Mohammed Ruwinsha , IV semester B.Com Computer Application have selected to University of Calicut team to attend the Adventure Camp at Hatkoti, Himachal Pradesh from 28th December 2013 to 06th January 2014 from 28th December 2013 to 06th January 2014  Two cadets from college participated in the 10 days’ RDC selection camp. 8 cadets completed 10 days’ TSC camp. Kum Athira Asokan participated NIC at Jammu & Kashmir  Athletics- 8 members participated in the Calicut University meet & Sri Dhanasyam P.J. & Sri Ashique P.A. secured 4th place in Javelin &Shotput respectively.  Boxing- 5members participated. Sri Anas P.H. won 3rd place.  The College Badminton Team participated in the D-zone championship. Sri Rahul T.R. has participated in the State championship representing team in Soft ball competition.  Sri Sreejesh.M.S of 1st Batch B Sc (Physics) joined JIPMER, Pondichery for M Sc (Medical Physics) with 2nd rank in the merit list.  Anas P.H of III B.com Co-operation has won II Runner Up position in Boxing at University Level held at St.Thomas College, Thrissur.  Muhammed Ruwinsha, II Bcom Computer Application has received certificate of appreciation award from Smt M.S Jaya IAS, District Collector, Thrissur, for his excellent performance as Campus Ambassador in the electoral roll revisal campaign 2014 on 25th January 2014. N.S.S Activities

The National Service Scheme has conducted a variety of programmes:

 Reception to the Cycle Rally for India – Pakistan peace on 7th June 2013. The Rally was organised by students of Delhi University.

 The NSS and the Alumni Association jointly organized an Independence Day Quiz and patriotic song competition on 14th August 2013.  The college N.S.S distributed 500 books to Theeram Library on 21 August 2013. The books were hand over by Sri K A Abidali, President, S N Puam Grama Panchayath.  The college N.S.S conducted department wise Pookalam competition, as part of the Onam celebrations on 12th September 2013 and took leading role in Cooking and serving of food for the Onam feast.  Celebrated NSS day on 24th September with the inaguration of ‘Haritha Samridhi’ (preparing kitchen gardens in the adopted village). Smt. Usha Sreenivasan, Ward member, SN Puram Grama Pachayath inagurated the programme. The guest delivered NSS message and students took NSS pledge.  Conducted a public meeting of Ward members, Kudumbasree units, MNREGP workers on 24th September and self help groups in association with the planning of ‘Sevana varam’ coming in the first week of October.  Sanand.C, Conducted an orientation class on “Role and Responsibilities of NSS” as part of the orientation programme conducted by Sree Sankaracharya university of Sanskrit Regional centre, Tirur on 19th September 2013.  October 2- As part of the Gandhi Jayanti day observation, “Sevanavaram” conducted in adopted villeges (ward no 1& 21 the of SN Puram Grama panchayath). Programme was inagurated by the principal, Dr Ajims P Mohammed, in the presence of Ward members, College managing Secretary etc. More than 100 Voulnteeers Cleaned roadsides and nearby lareas in collaboration with the Kudumbasree and self help groups of the locality.  October 3- As part of the Gandhi Jayanti day celebrations, an Audio Visual General quiz was conducted in association with the Quiz Club of the College. 12 teams participated in the event, Departmrnt of Physics bagged first and second positions.  October 9- in association with the Election enrollment campaign, conducted by the Election Comission of India, NSS units conducted a recruitment drive in the college. Deputy Thahasildar, Mr Shamsudin in charge of election, inaugurated the programme. NSS enrolled 249 students from the College.

 October 10- AS part of the World Pain and Palliative Care Day, NSS voulnteers participated in the Ribbon of Hope Walkathon, conducted by Alpha pain and Palliative care society at Thrissur town.  In association with the Kidney Federation of India, NSS conducted an organ donation campaign on 6th November 2013 at the College. Sri Manoharan, Co ordinator, Kidney Federation of India conducted an awareness class on “Organ Donation and Life Style Diseases”.  As part of the children’s day, NSS Units arranged “KINGINIKOOTAM”- a day with students at Government Fisheries LP School, Veekode on 15th November 2013. Volunteers arranged a number of programmes for students. Volunteers collected money from the students and they handed over 120 note books to the School  Five NSS Volunteers were participated in the one day workshop on Palliative care, conducted by Alpha Pain & Palliative Care Society at Jawahar Bala Bhavan, Chembukkavu, Thrissur on 23 November 2013.  AIDS Day Observation- As part of the World Aids Day NSS conducted 3 major programmes on 30 November 2013.They are:  Face Painting Competition for students in the topic of “AIDS Awareness”  Positive speaking by experts from Pratyasha, representing Aids Control Society.  Street Play on AIDS Awareness by NSS volunteers. Acted the play inside and nearby premises of the college.  The College NSS organised a workshop in connection with Human Rights Day on 12th December 2013  The Seven day NSS Special Camp was held from 20th to 26th December 2013 at Govt GHSS, Kodungallur. Sri T N Prathapan MLA inaugurated the Camp.

 February 3-6- NSS Stall in the Science Exhibition-

NSS arranged a separate stall in the Science Exhibition conducted by the College from Feb 3rd to 6th. Facilitate viewers to check their Body Mass Index (BMI) and facilities for fill up Organ donation forms. Traffic Awareness Campaign was another focal theme of the stall. As part of it, volunteers arranged a live demo and exhibited a number of awareness charts within the stall.

 February -6 Puppet Show

NSS arranged a Puppet Show on Alcoholism and Drug abuse in association with the National Rural health Mission (NRHM).  February 12-19 Palliative care Workshop at Orissa

Five NSS Volunteers, representing Alpha Pain and palliative Care Society were participated in the National level Workshop on Palliative Care conducted at Bhuvaneswar, Orissa.  February 13 -Class on Waste

Arranged a Demonstration class on paper art work by using waste papers. Class led by Mr. Sathish kumar from Delhi Fine Arts Society.  February 15- Haritha samridhi

As part of the final stage of the Haritha samridhi programme, volunteers arranged vegetable gardens in 15 houses of the adopted village area. SN Puram Panchayath member Smt Usha Sreenivasan officially inaugurated the final stage of the programme.  February18-Film Show on Cyber Awareness

NSS took initiation for conducting film shows to the students of the college. Film was “Dial 1098” –an awareness movie on Cyber Crimes, produced by Kerala state Police. Arranged special shows for the separate batches of the College.  February 21- Seminar on Gender Issues

Two Volunteers participated in the NSS District wise seminar on Gender issues, conducted by NSS District Cell at SN College, Nattika.  February 21- Inauguration of One Rupee One Life

Principal Dr Ajims P Mohammed officially inaugurated the “One Rupee One life” programme. As part of it a charity box was placed in the college. Students are proposed to deposit one rupee per day and finally it will hand over to Alpha Pain and palliative Clinic for their Social services.  February 23-Social Wedding

25 volunteers actively participated in the Social Wedding conducted by the Alpha palliative Society. They mainly took part in serving food for more than 3000 people. Extension activities

 The ED club organized an Industrial visit to KSE Feeds, Irinjalakuda on 4th April 2013.

 The Staff club organized a 3 day tour to Ooty on 30th April 2013.  Dr K J George, Associate Professor, Dept. of Botany has performed as a Resource Person and delivered a talk on Career Advancement Scheme, in the KSHEC sponsored two-day FDP for young College Teachers held on 21st & 22nd June 2013 at MES Asmabi College.  Final Year BSc Aquaculture Students attended a training programme in Fish Breeding at National Fish Seed Farm, Malampuzha on 1st and 2nd July, 2013.  Department of Hindi presented ‘The Second Hindi Sevi Samman’ to Umakant Khubalkar, Dr.C.Jayasankar Babu, & Dr.Bindu Bhatt.  Dr. Ignatius C A, Department of Aquaculture, conducted class on fisheries as a resource person at Extension training centre, Mannuthy, on 6th September 2013 to Village Officers.  Dr Ajims P Mohammed, Principal has served as a resource person in connection with the release of NAAC Manual at M D College, on 1 October 2013.  Dr. Ignatius C A, HOD, Dept of Aquaculture has conducted class to the students of B.Sc. Cooperation and Banking of Kerala Agricultural University on 19 and 26, October, 2013.  Dr.Ranjith M Subject was expert for Faculty selection @ IHRD College, Idavilangu  Dr. Ignatius C A, HOD, Dept of Aquaculture took class to the students of B.Sc. Cooperation and Banking of Kerala Agricultural University on various dates.  Dr. K.Kesavan handled the class as a resource person on Scientific Fish Farming at Pappinivattom Cooperative Bank on 14/12/2013. Alumni activities

 Released the annual alumni directory “Ormakkai” on 21st June 2013. It was released by Prof Kadavanad Mohamed, Correspondent and Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Colleges.  The Pravasi Alumni Meet was held on 16th August 2013 and distributed Gold Medals for top scorers of Commerce, Economics and Mathematics departments  Asmabi College Alumni family meet was held on 2 October 2013 and honoured prominent alumni of the college.

 The Alumni Association conducted a send-off programme ‘Yathramozhi’ to the final year degree students on 3rd March 2014.

I shall be failing in my duty, if I do not thank the Management, Heads of the departments, esteemed faculty members, Librarians, office staff and other supporting staff members who contribute to various developmental activities to take place in the campus. I express my indebtedness to all who in their own way have helped in raising the institution where it stands today. Dear students, my deep felt thanks to all of you.
