MES ASMABI COLLEGE, P.VEMBALLUR ANNUAL REPORT 2013-2014 In the name of Allah, the most beneficent and the most merciful. At the very outset, we raise our hearts in gratitude to the omnipotent spirit who is the beginning and end of all endeavours without whose blessings we can do nothing. Respected Chief guests of the day, other dignitaries on the dies and off the dies, my colleagues, my dear students. With all your permission, let me present before you the 45th annual report of MES Asmabi College for the academic year 2013 – 14. As I look back, this academic year has brought many accomplishments and also made us see the gaps in some areas where there is a definite scope for improvement. The new College Management Committee was formed on 21st May 2013 with Adv P K M Habeeb as the President, Mr K M Abdul Salam as the Secretary and Correspondent and Mr P H Ziyaudheen Ahamed as the Treasurer. The current strength of students is 1171 out of which 849 are girls. We have twelve undergraduate programmes; four post graduate programmes, one research programme and three career oriented courses. Our staff includes 18 Associate professors, 27 Assistant professors, 20 guest faculties and 17 Non teaching staff. General Activities of College 9 Minor Research Projects were sanctioned by UGC in the year 2013. The Principal Investigators are: Dr. Ajims P Mohammed, Smt Deepa K A, Dr Haseena V A, Smt Shiney C N, Smt Sheena P A, Dr George K J, Sri U Aboobacker, Smt Sheeba N H and Smt Rethika K T. UGC has sanctioned two national seminars to Hindi and Economics Depts UGC has sanctioned an Add-on course on “Ornamental Fish Culture” to Aquaculture department. 6 MRP’s were sanctioned to the following members of faculty in the year 2014 Sri Firdousmon K, Sri Sanand C, Smt Najila T Y, Miss Sameera Haneef, Sri Sivadasan T P and Smt Sefiya K M. The 1st batch of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP), was held from 25th April 2013 to 15th May 2013. 1 Inauguration of IInd batch of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme by Adv V S Sunil Kumar MLA was held from 8th May 2013 to 28th May 2013. The Kerala State Higher Education Council, Muslim Educational Society and MES Asmabi College jointly organized a Faculty Development Programme for newly joined Assistant Professors of MES Collegiate Service on 21st and 22nd June 2013. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Kadavanad Mohamed, Correspondent and Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Colleges. Sanctioned 4 Self financing/unaided degree programmes by the Government of Kerala viz. B.Com Finance, BBA, BA Mass Communication and BCA. Sanctioned M A Economics programme in aided stream. The Equal Opportunity Centre of the college arranged a skill enhancement programme ‘BLOOM’ to the final year B. Sc degree students on 5th and 6th of July 2013. Psychologist Sri Jinto Mathew (Director, Green Life Foundation, Ernakulam) was the resource person. I D.C Classes started on 8th July 2013. College Managing Committee Secretary inaugurated the Function organized to welcome the freshers. Sri A P Nizam, Senior Resource Person, CIGI handled the counseling session for parents and first year degree students. The College Union collected and donated an amount of Rs 6000/ to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Fund in connection with the Utharakhand flood relief. The Department of Hindi conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Child characters in Hindi literature” on 19th and 20th July 2013. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P A Fazal Gafoor, State President, MES Kerala. The College collected and donated dress materials to Samskara Sahithi in connection with the Utharakhand flood relief. The college fine arts club organized an intercollegiate music competition on Mohammed Rafi songs Yaad Na Jaaye on 31st July 2013 to commemorate the renowned singer on his 33rd death anniversary. Students from various colleges participated in the programme. 2 The Legal Literacy Club organized a seminar on the topic ‘Anti –Ragging’ on 1st August 2013. The programme was inaugurated by Sri M Surendran, Circle Inspector of Police, Kodungallur. The Class was handled by Adv Jaffer Khan. College Union Election was conducted in a peaceful manner on 5th September 2013. Mehandi and Mappilapattu Competitions were conducted on 6th September 2013. Onam Celebrations was held on 12th September 2013. Various programmes including “Snehakootaayma”, to honour the elderly people around the college were arranged. The Programme was inaugurated by Sri K P Dhanapalan M P First year P.G Classes started on 25th September 2013. An introduction on ASAP is given to the first year degree students on 25th September2013. Smt P M Saboorabi, Head, Department of English retired from service on 30th September 2013 after 32 years of service.Sri Abdulla K A, Lab Assistant has retired from service on 31st Oct 2013. Sri Abdul Nasser, Librarian retired from the service on 30th Nov 2013. Dr K J George, Associate Professor, Dept of Botany will be retired from the service on 31st March 2014. Let me take this opportunity to wish them the very best in their future endeavours. Ozone Day celebrations was held on 4th October 2013. A debate was organized by the Women’s forum on the topic “Vivahapraayavum Anaachaarangalum”, on 7th October 2013. The Inauguration of College Union and Fine Arts was held on 10 October 2013. The Union was inaugurated by the Poet Sri Srijth Ariyalloor and the Fine arts inaugurated by the famous Cine Artist Sri Sekhar Menon. College celebrated Kerala Piravi Day on 1 November 2013. The Department of Malayalam organized a regional seminar “BHASKARAM” and an intercollegiate Malayalam recitation and Film song competition of P.Bhaskaran songs to commemorate the renowned lyricist P Bhaskaran. Famous Script Writer Sri John Paul was the Chief Guest. Kerala Purushan and Kerala Manka competitions were also conducted by the fine arts club on the same day. 3 Distribution of “AaCheppu” magazine held on 20 November 2013. The Kerala State Higher Education Council has sanctioned a Major Research Project “A Study on the Total Quality Management of Higher Education Institutions in the state of Kerala” to Dr Ajims P Mohammed, Principal Prof P. O. J Lebba, General Secretary, MES Kerala laid the foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Memorial New Commerce Block on 21 November 2013. NAAC has sanctioned a two day National Conference on the topic ‘Role of ICT in Institutional Quality Enhancement-Assessing Current Status and exploring New Frontiers’ to be conducted on 17th and 18th June 2014. The Equal Opportunity Center organised a counseling class to the first year BA & B.Sc students on 12th December 2013. Sister Leena Theresa was the counsellor. The College Film club organised a film documentary exhibition and Open Forum on 16th December 2013. Sri Rupesh Kumar, Film Director was the Chief Guest. The NCC cadets organised a Cycle Rally to make awareness against the use of Drugs and Alcohol on 17th December 2013. The College Magazine 2012-2013 “Popcorn” was released on 17th December 2013. Sri Saji Surendran, Film Director was the Chief Guest. The College Women’s forum organised a Quiz Competition on the topic “Women Achievers” on 17th December 2013. The Inspection Committee on Autonomous Colleges visited the College on 19th and 20th December 2013. Dr Ajims P Mohammed, Principal has been appointed as the member (Eminent Educationalist) of Kerala State Education Advisory Board by the Government of Kerala. The College organised a rally at Kodungallur to make awareness against the use of Drugs and Alcohol on 31st December 2013. Sri P K Padmarajan, Sub Inspector of Police, Kodungallur inaugurated the rally. A faculty development programme was conducted on 9th January 2014 on “Innovative Teaching Methodology” sponsored by The Kerala State Higher Education Council and organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and PG Dept. of Economics. DR K P, 4 Suresh, Professor, School of Pedagogical Sciences, MG University, Kottayam was the resource person. The Additional Skill Acquisition Training Programme (ASAP) was inaugurated by Adv V S Sunil Kumar MLA on 13th January 2014 Arts Festival celebrated on 15th and 16th January 2014 Organised a seminar on Archives in association with Kerala State Archives Dept. on 23rd January 2014 Annual Sports meet held on 24th January 2014 Dr Siddiq memorial Intercollegiate Football tournament was held on 29th & 30th January 2014. Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur won the tournament D-Zone Competitions started from 29th January 2014. In the D Zone Competitions, Parichamuttu team won Ist prize and Hindi Drama won 3rd prize A training programme was conducted for NTS on 1ST Feb 2014. The Class was handled by Mr Rasheed, Under Secretary (Retd). KPSC. Prof Kadavanad Mohamed, Correspondent & Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Colleges addressed the teachers on 6th Feb 2014 College Magazine ‘Popcorn’ received a special Jury mention in the Aboobacker Shafi Memorial College Magazine Award 2013 instituted by PSMO College, Thirurangadi. The Govt of Kerala has sanctioned Scholar Support Programme (SSP) to our college and allotted an amount of Rs 94,500/- on 10th Feb 2014 The University Grants Commission has sanctioned an amount of Rs 12,50,000/- as Additional Development Assistance on 11th Feb 2014. The total financial assistance from UGC for the year 2013-2014 is Rs 31,14,000/- A training programme “Horizon”was organized for the selected students from final year degree class on 15th Feb 2014. The resource person was Mr Sooraj Abraham, Chief Trainer, Career.com, Aluva Meeting of Principles Council was held at our College on 15th Feb 2014. A reception was arranged to Dr T A Abdul Majeed, Registrar, Calicut University at the meeting A seminar on Mohammed AbduRahiman Sahib was conducted under the auspicious of MES Institute of Science and Culture (MESISC) on 19th Feb 2014.
