June 15-June 18, 2016, Dunhuang, Gansu Province, China

The Woodenfish Foundation and the Dunhuang Research Institute are pleased to announce the conference on “Sutra Transmission and Translation” that will be held Wednesday, June 15 – Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Dunhuang, Gansu Province, China. The conference is hosted in honor of Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan; Stanley Weinstein, Professor Emeritus at Yale University; and Lewis Lancaster, Professor Emeritus at UC Berkeley, for their great contributions to Buddhism, and will also recognize the retired professors who are attending the conference for their contributions to Buddhist studies.

The conference will feature eight panel sessions as well as tours of the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang, and the Yulin Caves. Over fifty international and Chinese scholars are expected to participate in the panels, roundtable discussions, and paper presentations.

In addition to a number of invited scholars, we are opening the conference to other scholars and PhD students who may attend as observers.

While they must pay for their own travel, room and board will be offered for up to 20 observer attendees.
