  • York9 FC Earns Historic First League Win Over Pacific FC
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Fri Sep 24 18:21:22 2021 / +0000 GMT York9 FC earns historic first league win over Pacific FC By Jake Courtepatte After a little patience, and a lot of effort, the monkey is finally off of the back of York9 FC. The Canadian Premier League posted their first-ever league win on Saturday against Vancouver's Pacific FC, in their sixth try. Both sides entered the contest desperate for a win, with just one combined in the first CPL season. ?The boys put a great shift in today,? said York9 FC head coach Jim Brennan. ?We knew what was at stake; this was a game that we had to win, and we came away with the three points.? Though the squad has found success in the Canadian Championship schedule, playing their way to the second round of the nation's most prestigious tournament, success at the CPL level has proven difficult to find: York9 posted a pair of losses and three draws before finding their first three-point effort, which came in the form of a tight 1 ? 0 win. Brennan praised a change in formation, led by fullbacks Morey Doner and Diyaeddine Abzi, as the cogs in the wheel of success. ?I call them three-lungs,? Brennan said. ?Because they keep going and going and going, these boys, up and down that line.? Goalkeeper Nathan Ingham, who picked up the clean sheet, seconded Brennan's thoughts, saying the two took to the new lineup ?like ducks to water.? It was Ingham who deserved much of the praise however, when a handball inside the box in just the seventh minute meant a Pacific FC penalty kick.

  • Key Takeaways from York9 FC?S Short Campaign
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Sun Sep 26 6:11:35 2021 / +0000 GMT Key takeaways from York9 FC?s short campaign You have to feel for York9 FC. Analysis written before the Island Games' tournament suggested the team's offseason acquisitions had cemented the club as one of the favourites to win it all. In hindsight, their performances were good. Good, but not great, and that was the difference. Three ties to begin the tournament against Atletico Ottawa, Pacific FC and Valour FC was insidious and it helped other clubs to remain in the mix. Sure, York9 earned a dramatic victory in the 905 Derby the next game against Forge FC, but a costly tie against the HFX Wanderers definitely applied some pressure. The Nine Stripes got the win against FC Edmonton, before bowing out against Cavalry FC 1-0 in the deciding match and HFX's win in their final match secured York 9 a plane ticket home. It was disheartening. Demoralizing. Place any adjective here to describe it. The boys only suffered one loss throughout the competition and that was enough to kiss a shot at the title goodbye. It's the cruelty of soccer. Even if you feel things are going well, they are not always as they seem. What does ?seem to be? is a bright future for next year and time is in their favour. It's more time to prepare for the next season; however that will look. For now, here are some takeaways from the club's performance in the Island Games.

  • Double Dose of Victories for York United
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Tue Sep 28 11:05:21 2021 / +0000 GMT Double Dose of Victories for York United York United edged out a 1-0 victory against Forge FC and earned a stunning victory against HFX Wanderers this past week. Their excellent week with adding six more points to their record all began with heading out on the road to Tim Hortons Field for a rematch against Forge FC. Ahead of the game, York United got a huge boost. Dominick Zator's red card against Forge FC at York Lions Stadium the game before was rescinded. He was eligible to play and head coach Jimmy Brennan didn't hesitate to insert him into the starting 11. In the first half, with Forge FC all over The Nine Stripes, midfielder Tristan Borges earned his club a penalty kick on the stroke of halftime. Borges stepped up to the plate, but Nathan Ingham guessed the right way and York walked away unscathed. Just nine minutes into the second half, York forward Alvaro Rivero juked Garven-Michee Metusala, charged into the box and put one past Tristan Henry to break the deadlock. Ironically, just 10 minutes later and for the second consecutive game, York were awarded a red card. Rivero stood in front of the ball when Forge FC had a free kick.
